Guys, my Squadron flyer just came yesterday and they have the 1/72nd Revell of Germany kit on sale for $11.81. I'm not a big braille scale builder but it's less trouble than ebay. And plus shipping and handling you're going to end up with a bill of what - 15-16 bucks? I can't hardly get a good meal at a sit down resturant for less than 15 bucks anymore.

My brain is wandering - dangerous I know! I don't have kit in hand yet... but I have a decent store of spare parts... a flying wing is a fairly simple shape... I'm actually considering scratchbuilding this bugger! Am I crazy?? (You know, crazier than usual!)

I received that kit yesterday and I must tell you that I was really impressed with it, especially as it is 72nd scale...lot's of detail I wouldn't have expected...and bigger than I thought it would be...

I also bought a resin Aires Jumo 004 engine with the possibility that I might get brave and cut one of the engine panels open and drop it in...I'll post some pics sometime this weekend...I can recommend this kit...

I think you will enjoy the build...it goes together quick with minimal fit problems. It is a pretty good size especially that front wheel.

I think you will enjoy the build...it goes together quick with minimal fit problems. It is a pretty good size especially that front wheel.

Well Kermit piqued my curiosity toward the kit with his glowing review and beautiful finished model. With both of you recomending the kit I'm getting psyched up about it.. I'll be ordering a few Christmas presents for the nephews from the Squadron flyer and a few presents along with the Horten for myself. Hopefully I'll have the order in soon and have my kit by this time next week.  

Who knows, if it comes out well I might trawl ebay for the Dragon 1/48th kit or maybe buy another 1/72 Revell kit. I was thinking last night the 229 would look pretty cool in Italian marking with those cool smoke rings they used on the Macchi 202 and 205.

Sounds good Manny, as its the only 229 available in the Squadron online shop right now. I was not going to order that kit unless it was ok to do so.

I know I know, even with shipping the thing's a steal right now. But I've been thinking about scratching something simple - that I'd be interested in - for years now. I'll probably grab that little Revell kit too, but I'm seriously thinking about the home-built option.

Ye, deffinatly avoid the PM if you can. I managed to get rid of mine on E Bay when i got the Revell one. The PM kit is very very basic. Theres a reason its less than half the price of the revell kit.

The electric speed controller was over heating up is why the engines kept quiting. I read there are only to designs for RC 229's that work although they have trouble with both at high speeds. Seems they have to use a blast tube behind each engine because of turbulance created by the engines over the trailing edge of the wing. Makes me wonder if the Germans had the same trouble with thr real one.

I would, but those kits are so far outside my budget that they have a different zip code.
