 Hercmech:

That thing pre or post shaded?

Post-shaded Hercmech. The aerodynamic dimples (like on a golf ball) were also experimental at the time, and applied one at a time before painting, what a pain. That's what has taken me so long!

Canopy on backwards... I knew I should have used pencil instead of pen. Bang Head

Oh and I thought maybe the Horton Brothers and Vance were expermenting with airbraking by opening the canopy backwards in flight

Randy So many to build.......So little time

Dimples huh? Now you can call me impressed. Just be careful that the "dimple counters" don't look, I think your left wing is missing a couple.

Manstein's revenge

 VanceCrozier:

 Manstein's revenge:

Maybe so, but even at that it will be more detailed than Vance's cocktail napkin...

Paper napkin??? Awwwwww, who told?
This is the compact, lightweight version wearing a Northern Hemisphere "ghost" camo pattern. In the absence of aircraft carriers or suitable land bases, these were to be unfolded and deployed from u-boats. The specialised pattern is very hard to see if you are suffering from snow-blindness...

http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/af250/VanceCrozier/Horten%20229%20Scratchbuild/100_5923.jpg

(But seriously, I'm up to my eyeballs in that P-38, takes up a lot of room on my non-existent work table. It's coming, just not quickly!)

I see a nasty seam...

hehehe.. snicker !!! sssnort.. chorkle... Dr P ...dripping...

Well your GB drew me in Manny!

Looks like Squadron's warehouse has taken a beating! The reference magazine is sold out as is the 1/72 scale Revell / Germany kit....

..... the next Manny GB may well cause the same type of shortages...

it is wise to remember the power of the Manny !!!

 SuppressionFire:

Well I was thinking more 'whittling' mode.Whistling

I have access to a woodworking shop and figured a hybrid Horton would be a fun project. Besides from what I hear the kit parts will not be much use. Travel

The kit was a " Great Leap Forward " compared to the vacuform that preceded it.

The two main " wing " halves are useful but the kit lacks any sort of cockpit interior, engine  or gear bay detail .The nose gear strut and wheel are one piece.

Detail is composed of very lightly done raised lines.

Maybe so, but even at that it will be more detailed than Vance's cocktail napkin...

Well your GB drew me in Manny!

I ordered the PM Models of Turkey 1/72 scale kit for ... 3.99$ (50% off) Its going to be a template for a idea of mine regarding a wooden model. Hopefully a few plastic parts and the wind screen can be saved for vacuum forming.

Don't sign me up until the order arrives, like the saying 'the cheque is in the mail'

Oh, God...now both you and Vance are claiming to be in scratchbuilding mode???? I hope you aren't just pulling my leg on this like Vance...his HO is still in concept stage, ala a quick pen drawing on a cocktail napkin...

Manstein's revenge

 traveller:

DISASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went to attach the wings to the body, and it all fell apart!!!!!!!!!!! I tried to super glue things back together, but it only got worse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am not sure what to do now, am soaking the parts in nail polish remover to try and get rid of the glue. I have some ideas, but I need to step away for a bit before I try again. Sorry about this guysCrying

Don't worry---even with that CATastrophic setback you'll still finish ahead of Vance...

[quote user="Manstein's revenge"]

I heard that CAT-erwauling even over the sound of the neighbor's Manny-cats!

I remember that one! I've looked at the "1949 Schnieder Trophy" article in FSM many times -- some superb modeling there!

Cheers, M/TB379
