My 229 has unfortunately suffered a simliar fate to the test one and is now doused with high octane racing fuel and is burning sufficiently in the back yard.............

Manny thats a very interesting camo scheme you have on a fine 109 build. Gives me some ideas it does.

Kermit what can I say, another sweet Kermified build. I like the splinter camo and the open engine bays, those scream to be seen and not hidden. I didn't see a picture with the engine covers on did the liquid tape not work ? I understand some of the early jets had condensation troubles on the windscreens after flight so yours must have just gotten back from a mission and straight into maintenance.

P38JL interesting variant you have going there, I will be watching your build with much interest.

Herr Feldmarschall Manny - update from the Eastern Canadian Front: Vance is done with the family issues requiring dress uniforms, now back in my fatigues. (Note to self, investigate the "burn me like a Viking option" for my will...) Cold is lingering but manageable with the virtual medication that P38 sent along. MOTIVATION IS BACK!!! Actually spent some time fraternizing with a P38 kit last night.

Kermit - Another one punched out of the factory! I'm liking the hard splinter pattern, reminds me of a dazzle camo pattern that you would see on battleships etc. If you add a 3rd you could officially advertise as a Ho-house.  And I approve of the lucky-13, my uniform # when ball season comes around. (But I'm not an a$$ like that Rodriguez bum that wears 13 for the Yankees...)

P38 - I had to go back and do a double-take - you're setting up with two seats? Trainer? Long-range?? Nightfighter??? What kind of craziness are you up to anyway?

Nicely done, Oberst Kermit...other than the crazed windscreen and some silvering issues with the decals I think you really pulled off a winner! 

I suppose you get the GB Badge times 2...Maybe now some of our "less-inspired" MOJO's will get to work...

Fantastic 109 you are showing there? What kit was that? I want it!!

Well folks,.... I am calling this flying banana done:

I did have some wing warpage but only the top half. I straightened it out by just gluing it to the bottom half and it corrected itself...thank our fuhrer...

As you can see from the pics i had some booboo issues... I had to fiddle and mess with the windscreen so much that it totally fogged up and well...it aint pretty.

On top of that i held the ring arial in my tweezers yesterday ending up shooting it to the cold plains of Siberia, nowhere to be found so i fashioned myself one from some sprue and wire. Lastly i just broke off half of the pitot tube while prepping for these pics... Will have to stretch some sprue to correct that. Nothing too problematic though and i must say that i am still very pleased with the results myself. Hope you guys like my 229 as well.

2) To answer your question: Tamiya masking tape pre-cut with the "scallop" pattern...putty will not give you that hard of an edge...those saw patterns are real; I have refs that show many examples of 109's using them on the horizontal surfaces...same with the scalloped leading edge, although sometimes this was done in soft-edge:

Why is that? Perhaps you met a cat similar to the one in my avatar back in the fateful winter of '42-'43? Conjuring up memories of a lunch that didn't agree with you...

Its very nice work none the less. You seem to have references for everything. I'd love to see your library. Mine isn't very expansive yet, much like my stash but I'm working on it.

my belts n buckles are bit heavy handed.. but the canopy will be closed so.... hopefully,, it wont noticed to bad..

Progress has been made.. Cockpit done, details added. Fuselage completed,, wings on... Pics tonight..

Well, I sucessfully straightened out the banana, I mean wing. I laid the two halves flat side down on a large piece of glass and using a hair dryer on low, heated up the styrene. I then kept them in the position with the weight of the book on them for several hours to allow the plastic to cool. Looks good so far. Going to let them sit over nigiht and check and see if the curve comes back in the morning.

Ok, now that I've found this again (I've been searching the GB forum), I'm just about ready to get started on mine. I picked up the 1/72 Revell kit which looks quite nice.

I'm not seeing it...

I have had two books sitting on it all night and they havent taken any of the bow out. Going to hit it with some hot water and see what it does.

yikes - that is a wicked wing warp... Yeah, I'm thinking the hot water is probably the best option. Maybe follow that up with some of Manny's non-slip yellow on the lower half...

Ok, looks like mine is going to be painted yellow and called the flying banana. there is some major warpage on the wings, has anyone else experienced this with the Dragon kit?? Still racking my head trying to figure out how to solve this.

Funny you should mention this, I have had a big fight with my wings. I ended up dunking them in hot water and bend them into shape, I hope!!!!! I should have called in Bender to help

Hi, just a quick question, when is it running to? I am waiting for some Japanese decals to arrive, but it seems someone has stolen my thunder...... Oh well, I may consider the Italian airforce, or Soviet airforce, who knows? Time for bed, its about 23DegC here now!! not minus stupid degrees!!!!
