Hehe, but I've fallen hopelessy behind on my Pak-40 for Scott's GB. I will try to return to it.

Does the Squadron book have lots of color plates? I've got the older retangular Squadron book, so hopefully it has something more.

I'm off and running. I have most of the lower hull slapped together. Thanks for the zim pics Marc, I thought I might get replacement parts for the front and rear plates. I'm still waiting for my zim to arrive, so I'm unsure how much I can slap together.

Thank goodness for Tamiya kits. The lower hull took a fraction of the time to install as my Dragon Jagdpanzer which made you sand and fill the hull, because it was a different variant. Also the idler wheel on the Tamiya kit is fixed, rather then guess working the Dragon kit.

DF... good progress on your build.

The replacement parts fit fine and it can be seen how kit parts are used to make the dupes.  The right idler arm mold did not fill properly but it was easy to cut off the kit arm and CA it in place.  The flat zim pieces however are to big.  The sides of the upper hull was too long and the back end needed 1/4" trimmed.  All the fender and mud guards pieces needed to be trimmed.  Since these were all more or less rectangles sized wrong no big deal.  The real problem  was the front deck.  The piece was too big in both dimensions.  So hatches did not line up and were the wrong size anyway so it could not be cut up to make it fit.

My attempt at doing the zim with Tamiya putty was a disaster so I cleaned it off and will get a piece of Cav generic zim to make the right sized section. In the mean time I busied myself making the jack block and new cable ends.  The kit gives you a length of cord to glue in a slot on the back of the eyes that is not very appealing. Also made new springs for the rear mud guards. Also did the weld on the exhaust over.

Seriously guys, I promise to get that godforsaken list updated some time in the next couple of days!!!

Couple of quick pics for you - first, the contents of the Tristar Ausf. B box - I HAVE to build it now, because it's NEVER going to fit back in there!

And my refs - I HIGHLY recommend both of these books - the second one is PACKED with quality pics of all of the A-J variants.

Now now dupes, no touchy, you still have your 251 to build. I'm gonna be another 2 or 3 months before i get to start mine so i will plenty of insparation.

Wow, you three building already are seriously on the ball!

Wingy - looks really good. That jack block is top-notch!

Stick_Man - the tracks looked good through the bag. I haven't given them a real close look, but I certainly can if you're interested and really think you're going to bag that Ausf. C. Thumbs Up [tup]

Tigerman - that book has a TON of color plates! Don't have it with me, but I'm guessing...30-40? Of all Ausfuhrungs, including some weirdish ones. Plus the pictures can't be beat. Definitely worth it!

Hi Wingnut --

Good stuff!!! I'm watching with interest, as I have the Cavalier set for the JgPz IV L/70, which doubtless has many parts patterned in common.

I've opened up the accessories and taken a look, and my first thought was I'm biting off more than I can chew, especially the PE. By the looks of it, the zimmerit complicates much of the PE detail, especially the attachment points, and I'm leaning toward leaving the PE to a later build, making it an experiment all by itself, and concentrating on the zim this time (plus the replacement barrel, Academy tracks (another first time job) and the Tamiya detail parts.

I still have no idea when I'll be able to make a start, I have some deadlined stuff to get off the bench, plus another GB or two (three, four, heck, make that six!) to clear. But I can always get the lower hull assembled, any work that'll fit back in the box for storage.

Lookin' good, my friend, hope she sails along to friendly winds (yeah, right!)

Nice work Detailfreak and Marc! Looking good!

Have made a little progress here too!

Hatches and some stuff are done on the upper hull, and I've started out on the gun and cuppola! Soon I can load the airbrush and paint the visible interior parts white!

The figures are for another project!

Cheers,

Azgaron

Are thay indys?? if so are thay in bags like magic tracks or on the trees??

From talking to my mom theres about a 87% chance of her letting me order the ausf C and if I get the C I'm going to make my ausf D in desert camo.

Hello all.

Just finished one GB so it's time to start anotherBig Smile [:D], hopefully without as many problems!!!!

I'm going to start off with Revell 1/72 Nashorn which was a bit of a bargin at £3.....woohoo!!

First of all the box and contents:

The molding seems very good, the detail on the track links is very clear and the instructions are clear and easy to read and follow.

The first steps deal with the lower hull and wheels:

I've painted the lower hull and wheels, with the plan being to connect the wheels and tracks last. Thats all for now will post an update later.

Hi All,

I've made a start too, on my 1/48 IV J , but not worth posting a photo. I've removed and cleaned up all of the road wheels, idlers, drive wheels etc and blue tacked them to a piece of dowel so that I can give them a spray of some darkened dark sand, if that makes any sense at all.

I don't build a lot of German armor, but I've found it interesting in this kit that Tamiya don't supply the skirts, but give detailed instructions and plans for you to make your own. I will, but I'm a bit surprised. Is this unusual ?

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

First - happy new year everyone!

Azgaron - start right off the gun! I have that one in my stash, will keep a close eye on your build

bufflehead - wow, resin warping party... look f orward to yoru build!

wing_nut - done yet? Wink [;)]  nice touch on the weld, will have to try that. Is that foil on the cable end? or a metal sleeve?

detailfreak - nice start...  as for the pics, maybe use a solid background so the cam doesnot auto-focus on the wood grain which is the closest object?

mmc - looking forward to your build! I cannot build 72 scale, my hats off to you mate!

I wont start mine for a few months, have to finish some other GBs first, like 251 & RSR :)

I am working on it Jmart.  Got some good insomnia induced bench time until about 3 this morning. (yawning smiley goes here)

That is a piece of aluminum tubing with the end tapered where the cable goes.

Yeah, indies - on sprues. The quality does look really good. Obviously not as easy as Magic Tracks, but they don't look too hard to work with.

Keep it up you guys! Great work already! Big Smile [:D]

Bish - sorry I missed your post! Yeah, no worries, I'm doing the 251 first. Just happened to have this guy out of the closet and figured I should poke around in the box for a minute. Wink [;)]

How's your deployment going? You don't have too much time left, do you?

Alright, took a serious stab at getting the list updated. All of you that weren't already on there before should check it out, let me know if I missed anyone. It appears (IF everyone builds what they say they're going to build) that we're in the realm of 1152+ roadwheels! Score!

Now about that badge...Whistling [:-^]

Working with the pic Boyd submitted and Marc was playing with - the german ranking system will work out PERFECTLY. Give me a bit of time, and I'll have that all set. Thumbs Up [tup]

I know what you mean, i am forever opening the boxes in my stash just to make sure they haven't run away Big Smile [:D]

Only got a few more weeks to do, still don't have an exact date yet. To be honest, apart from getting back to my 251, i am in no rush, have really enjoyed my time out here. And its been put to good use. I'll have a number of nice parcels waiting for me full of books and other model stuff. And, as i got sent my copy of FSM i have seen how to do dot filtering which i am going to try on my 251. Had i not been away i would have finished before reading the mag. But deffo looking forward to finishing my hanomag and already have ideas for the Kugel.

Been alot of good work on your GB's and all the other threads. Keep up the good work guys, and will be back with you soon.

a little update;the lower hull has been given a coat of the base color,as well as the turret .the road wheels for one side have been completed,a bit of touch-up and they're ready for weathering.the base coat is considerably darker than what i have ussually used.just added a drop of burnt umber to the yellow ochre.the fuel tanks have been fitted to the lower hull also but are not visible.

Yay! The UPS man just gave me my Jagdpanzer IV A-O! It looks like a nice kit. It has a metal barrel and PE skirts. Hopefully I'll get to it after I build my Tamiya Greif. I want to take a break from Dragons for at least one build.Sigh [sigh]

My pleasure James.

Before you ask...

NO I AM NOT DONE YETBig Smile [:D]

But I have gotten a bit further along.  Got the generic zim for the front deck.  Pattern is a bit different but not to bad.  I put some damage there too but it does not show too well in the pics.  It came with 2 fairly large sheets of the stuff so if anyone needs a few square inches for a repair let me know.  Did some more PE stuff.  Waiting for the Gator glue I ordered before  I do the shurzen.  I have not quite gotten the hang of soldering this stuff yet and I don't think CA will cut it.  and added a weld to the top of the turret.  Hope to work on the tracks tonight.
