For 1915 -1916 & very early 1917 this was a regular in the Fliegertruppe's roll of medium reconn and two - seater duties.  But the contract numbers were low in comparison with Albatros, DFW and others.

Now to the meat of this subject.  To do the Fish Scale Scheme you have to backdate the parts to represent the early production types.

Cheers for the Info Stephen. Its great having such a knowledgeable person on a GB.

Do you have any pics of a Roland with the scales in your collection that you could post. I had a quick look but came up with Nada.

Appologies for taking so long to post. Stephen, the Roland CII is looking great. I like the extra effort to convert it to the earlier production model. Very much looking forward to seeing updates.

As for the Hanriot, I'm calling it on this one. It's built OOB, 'cept for the monofilament rigging. The kit went together well, with just minor sanding required. This being the WEED kit, no PE was included. It's an easy kit to build though, and will compliment my growing WWI aircraft collection. It looks cool settin next to the Bebe. Overall I liked the kit and tried a few new techniques that I'll be using again soon I hope.

Stephen- Excellent looking progress, bravo! Approve [^]

Mo- WOW!  Another stunning build from your bench.  My goodness, do you ever sleep man?  You are a machine, with beautiful builds done faster than I can  think up accolades for them. Bow [bow]

Hey Thanks Daywalker, I'm looking forward to trying these little turnbuckles I ordered from Bob. The monofilament is too big. The coffee is the driving force. I would like to do another Lozenge covered plane. Maybe an Eduard Albatross DVa.

Hello all,

It has been a long time since my last visit due to the world going crazy for wee buckles. Time for modelling has taken a back seat for now. Looking through the updates since my last visit here shows me the level of quality and dedication has not dipped but gone through the roof Bow [bow]

I salute you all.

God bless

Thanks Frank, Guy and Mobious.  Nicely done HD by the way.  Even as a weekender she still has a fine quality.

Thanks, Bob, I'm looking to pick up some of the invisible thread for the next build. I had a bit of a problem getting the .005" monofilament thru the eyelets. I think the thinner line would look nicer too.

Stephen, Thanks, the compliments are greatly appreciated. The level of detail on the observers gun is outstanding. I can see the trigger and trigger guard. That is cool. Looking forward to seeing more.

Well its almost finished.  The one surprise I had was working with the PE fretted gun jackets.  Both fractured when I tried to rolled them into the needed cylinder shape.  Since I have beau coup spares  its not a too big a deal for me.  But Buyer be warned.

Mobious, stunning build my friend. I love the markings and the photography. Top notch all round.

Stephen, thats strange about the gun jackets? Did you anneal them 1st?

I annealed the Spandau MG jacket first and it fractured.  I rolled the Parabellum jacket straight off the fret and it fractured.  First time I have ever had this happen.

Hi Mobious,

What is the breaking strain of the mono line you are using? Refresh my frazzled brain, what scale buckle did I send you?

Cheers,

Bob

Bob,The line I used for the rigging is 2 lb .005"/.13mm. I picked up 1lb also, which should work better with the buckles. The 1lb. has a nominal thickness of .004/.10mm. doesnt' sound like much, but I tried it on the tail rigging on this one and it is noticably thinner. I was concerned about tying a knot with the heavier 2lb line. I would still like to try the invisible thread too. Just to keep the options open. My eyesight isn't what it was in my younger daze, lol. I like the idea of using the buckles and will on my next build. I had a line pull loose on this one, and had a heck of time refastening it without damage to the finish. The buckles would make finishing and repairs(if needed) alot simpler, IMO.

That is some good looking work Aaron, keep those pics coming! Tongue [:P]

Stephen- I had a similar problem with the PE gun barrels on the E.V I built last year.  Thought it was just my ham-fistedness at the time!  Perhaps it is something with the metal.

I tested the main fret and it is brass covered in a silver nickel.  The brass should be ok.  More for me to ponder.  Usually the silver nickel by itself is fine. You don't have to anneal it.  (See the Fokker D.VII frets for silver nickel).  Together there seems to be some kind of problem.  Not sure yet.

Thats definately some wierd stuff. Ive done a few muzzle jackets and never had a problem. When you anneal it, how far do you go? I hold a lighter under the fret till the part im interested turns visibly blue then pull the lighter away quickly.

I have done roughly 250 1/48 kit guns and never had an Eduard set go this way.

Here is what we are upto at the Lafayette Foundation / Vintage Aero.  Still a long way to go for its A&P Cert.

Hey Stephen, That is one sweet looking Camel. I take it this will be for airshows in the future? Thanks for posting the photo, very cool indeed.

I like the looks of the CII. Sorry to hear about the problem with PE. Is the PE brass?

Well here it is the finished build.  I had to backdate the kit Spandau machine gun to match the 1915-16 version. Frank mark this one completed.

Stephen, the Walfish came out great. You are a machine. Also you are so lucky to be part of the foundation. That camel looks fantastic.

Wow, there is some beauty in a post. WnW have really gone the extra mile. As you may know the Gotha is the lad for me but the Alby has my name in it as well. Im hard pressed to think of another company (Maybe Eduard) who has come to this game and caused such a stir in such a short period. Thier range of figures as well looks huge and special.

Congratulations Wingnut Wings, you rule,
