I can not start for a bit because of the other GB but I definetly want in on this GB. I hope to learn alot from you guys. So if you would add me to the front page and I will do my best to make you proud.

SC- I added you to the roster on page one, can't wait to see your Fokker WIP pics!  Glad I could lure you onto another GB. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Mobious- Sounds like that kit has given you fits!  She really looks beautiful in the pics, but I'll wait to update page 1 showing her completion until you fix the ailerons.  Funny, I didn't even see it on the Albatros!

Guy- You're decalling already?  Holy guacomoly you're fast.  I haven't even started my Albatros yet, let alone my MC.200. Disapprove [V]  Looks great, even the cockpit photo. Thumbs Up [tup]  As for painting the prop, Stephen posted a link over at KOTS I on the subject.  Hopefully, he can shed some light on the technique.

gary- another great tip, thank you!  I may trry to find some of that material you mentioned at Gander Mountain. Thumbs Up [tup]

Graham-  Good deal!  Looking forward to seeing those pics.

ludwig- No worries mate!  I'm here, and at my build pace I'll be lucky to finish by the dealine. Disapprove [V]

Bob- I have the same syndrome!  I'll be right here building along with you to the bitter end. Smile [:)]

Sean- Ah, yes... Aurora box art- VERY cool!

Hey guys, great looking work so far - some are really quick out of the starter's block.
Any of you have problems seeing Stephen's posted photos?  Even the Aeroscale site he links, I can't see those either.
I'm still waiting for some reference books to arrive in the mail, but did receive the E-Z line sample pack to be used for rigging.  http://misc.kitreview.com/tools/ezlinereviewbg_1.htm   My only complaint about this product is that it is not round, but is flat.  This though you have to look very closely at to notice.

hi,

i've actually got some "streaky" decals that i'm going to use, there not totally correct but i really like them.

if your painting by hand, the base colour should be "doped linen" with the olive green steaks over the top.

i also went the easier route with the wood grain as well by using decalsSmile [:)]

Hey daywalker, Sorry about not posting pics yesterday. Seriously off day! The kit went together really well, needed a little sanding to adjust the fit, a few strips of stretched sprue and Tenax 7 to fill a couple pin holes. Minor stuff. Most of the problems I had were self inducedBanged Head [banghead] I've tried some new techniques with the weathering.

Luftwoller, That's one of the many problem areas I have. Tried masking the lamenation lines on this build, but I didn't get enough contrast and the oil paints obscured them. I had planned on a lighter color prop similar to the struts, but all the restored aircraft photos I have show a darker prop. Another issue is getting a scaled down gloss laquer finish without being overwhelming.

Summit, looking forward to seeing that kit. Looks like an awesome kit.

Here are the pics of the Camel after fixing the aerolon positions and changing the stretched prue for more monofilament line...

 Thanks for checking in,

 Mobious

Graham- From what I can see it looks good!  The photos are quite blurry though, obscuring most of the detail.  Can you adjust your camera settings?

SC- Bummer there's no instant gratification for you!  Glad they are ordering one for you.  I must admit- all this talk about D.VII's is REALLY making me want to add one to my stash. Tongue [:P]

Mobious- OMG!  That is a seriously gorgeous Camel!  How did you weather that one?  I like the faded, streaky look of the green.  The earth tones on the lower wings are very well done, blending the aircraft nicely with the base.  Can you explain your weathering techniques?  I would love to know how you did it. Bow [bow]

And, congratulations for the first completed build here!  I updated page one for you. Approve [^]

Hey daywalker, I was trying not to make it look like a tank with wings. Had to change the whole program. All of the techniques I used are found here on the Forums or over on Aeroscale, I just modified a few to fit my limited abilities. The washes were done with acrylics, instead of the oils that I had been using. The key to using acrylics, I'd read, was to add a drop of dish soap. Careful not to stir bubbles when applying. Also had to be careful of IVM's(invisible water marks). They're easy to remove, just hard for me to spot.Confused [%-)]

The upper wing fabric was done with masking, then drybrushed(in the direction of airflow), followed by a sealer coat, then washes, then a final dullcoat sealer. The bottom fabric was done in a similar fashon. Thanks for the generous words and the help. OBTW, the Future really did the trick. I am now an official convert of the School of Future.Bow [bow] I think I now have as many cleaning supplies in the bunker as I do in the laundry room.

 Best Regards,

 Mobious

That is one serious-looking Camel, mobious! The weathering techniques you used are tastefully done, not too understated and not overwhelming. My hat's off to you sir for an excellent build! Bow [bow]

....and I have to admit I'm a recent convert to using acrylic washes. My current fave is Tamiya smoke thinned with their thinner (excellent at breaking up surface tension), with a small drop of black or dark grey added if I need a bit more contrast, applied over a cured clear coat of Future. So far I've been very impressed with the results.

Sorry Daywalker, I was just trying to get some up-close pics of the pit. 'sides, there's not much more to see that that. For some reason, my camera has been acting wierd lately so sometimes, I get awesome pics. The next day, I get junk. Anyway, my picture-taking-skills stink! When I get more done, I'll get you some better pics. I'm pretty happy with the cockpit, and now I need to work on gettion a pilot in there.

I did not get as much done today as I hoped to. Have one engine housing almost completed, lots of flash, uneven seams and other little imperfections needed to be cleaned up. Here is a pre ~paint pic.G-1

I built this same kit 20 some years ago and always wanted to do another hopefully better. I drilled out the exhaust and believe it or not thinned up the prop quite a bit.

When I was growing up on the ranch we had a engine similar to this on a irrigation well, except instead of having a prop there was a big pulley and belt (about 10" wide) It sure sounded neat when it ran !

if yur gander Mountain dosn't carry it (mine does), you can also order it from Cabalas. Beware that if you go with the 5x thru 6x stuff you'll want good lighting as this stuff is very thin. Just don't buy the premade leaders as they are tapered. You want what they often refer to as tippet material. If you'd like, I can send you about ten feet of the stuff in the mail. I have enough laying around for three lifetimes of use.

just a note: I found dope linen in the Poly Scale rack along with the Fokker dark green (505038). But alas they were out of the doped linen! Does anybody sell wood grain decales? Something like you might want to use on a Albatross.

Seriously good looking Camel Mobious, except where it 'bought the farm' in that last photo Smile [:)]

It doesn't look like a 'flying tank' to me at all, it looks quite realistic and the scale appearance is good. The finish is exceptional, in my opinion.

Whilst I'm at it, does anyone know of any photos of AFC Sopwith Pups (I think the AFC flew 3 Pups in total) or RFC/RNAS Pups flown by Australians ?

There are some here: http://www.theaerodrome.com/forum/camouflage-markings/25776-early-afc-nose-art-sopwith-pup-b2509.html but no decals available for it. I also have a color illustration in a book called 'Australian Flying Corps 1919-45' by Charles Schaedel, again no decals, but I'd really love to base my model on a photo, if there are any around.

Cheers

Tony - the RAAF museum has a Pup - http://www.raaf.gov.au/raafmuseum/exhibitions/restoration/sopwith.htm

May be worth a trip down there or even emailing them to see if they have any pictures other than those on the website.

A mate of mine is still in the reserves and he knows some people there, they are pretty accomodating with access to stuff if you ask them.

I was looking at my Eduard 1/48 Albatros D.III last night, and noticed that they include two different styles of rudders.  One is the rounded type, and the other has a pronounced flat area on the backside of it.  Is one specific to a certain version of the aircraft, and is on the sprue for other marks (I.E. D.II, D.V) or are the different styles indicative of a certain manufacturer?  I know little about these birds, and was curious.
