Hey, Wyoroy, I had a question. Can we use second or third-hand kits? My friend gave me a kit about a year ago that somone had given to him. The first person had already started assembling small portions of the kit and there is some paint on there as well. I have to go through my cluttered stash again but I think that it is 1/16 F-16 cockpit. AMT is I remember straight. Now I think Italari has re-boxed the kit. Can I enter it in? Thanks. Graham

Sean, I think yours looks great.  I keep looking at that kit.  Thinking this will be a test bed for panel scribing and some other things I want to try.  Well doneThumbs Up [tup]

Thank you  Roy & Bill (Bondo) It is a clean build, but I like to sometimes actually build OOB . I feel  the need to build a few this way to relax and not stress over details.  This quality of this kit really was not worth super detailing or weathering. One of the things to watch out for the wing structure is very weak. If you pick it up by the wing  it will flex enough to crack any filler. That problem could be solved with a few pieces of sprue or styrene inside the structure. (Next Time ) The open canopy does not have a perfect fit , but the closed one fits very nice. I taped it over and used it for a mask during the painting. The kit has decals for three varients and you can build wheels up or down.

Edit - The plastic is really thin, I would not try scribbing on this one.

Tip for the Week

What in the world  ?  You are most likely thinking...  This is my little cheat method I use for painting props on the aircraft. We all like thos spinny things to spin right ? But they require assembly early in the process so if you paint ahead  of time they get scuffed, scratched , splattered - (Roy Whistling [:-^])  Painting the props is one of my last steps, I take a piece of paper and cut a splice up the middle. Sometimes with 1/32 I will cut a small circle a little smaller then the prop shaft. 1/72 & 1/48 I dont. Take the paper and slide it over the shaft to where the spinner is shimmed away from the cowling. Tape the split up, fold the excess back to where the prop rotates and paint away. If you need a different colored spinner - paint it first and mask off when dry.

Roy - It is a really old school basic method , I thought about you when I was prepping the Heinkel. Whistling [:-^] Even though your little mishap was unrelated.

Here is the finished props, Next up decals , glass, and landing gear Propeller [8-]

Very cool looking.  I have the Promodeler HE-111 in 1/48 in the stash, some day I'll start it.

Well here's some pictures of my Hanger Queens:

This is Hasagawa's 1/72 FW-190.  Needs some touchup, small parts attached and decals.

Hobbyboss 1/72 Spitfire MK Vb.  You can tell what it needs

Mauve's 1/48 P-40N.  Needs gunsight repaired, wind screen, and nav lights.

Itatali 1/35 PzI needs paint and decals.

Hobbycraft 1/48 Bf-109B.  Paint and decals

Roy - Very Exciting builds you have started.  I did not get as much done as I had hoped today. Every time I turned around the Supervisor had my chair !

Boss Cat But I was able to get the Decals all snugged down. Nothing beats boredom then working with 30 yr old decals.  Dave - This is your kit, while I was looking at the box I saw it was licensed by Airfix... And I have three more of the same kit hid in the Tomb of Stash Thumbs Up [tup]

Decals

I read a really cool tip by Trexx for painting Frosted Scotch Tape and slicing it into thin strips to outline the canopy. I will try that out for the forward glass on this jewell.

Also you might notice something on my cutting mat, that is just a piece of Wax paper so if I spill or blop cement. paint - whatever it does not get directly on the mat. My old one was so textured from drops of glop I got another one. I can still cut on it and when the paper gets trashed  - toss it and tape down another.

I like the idea of the wax paper.  Somehow there's a big black paint spill on the center of the cutting mat.  My wife said something about her mat being ruined (it's hers by the way).

Roy - I wasnt going to point fingers Laugh [(-D] Wax paper surface goes back to the R/C building days, you would place it over your plans and build directly over them.

GB- Has my Vote !

Dave - Nothing Surprises me when it comes to a hiding place for a cat. Or how high they can jump.....Ours is a stray my Daughter brought home during a downpour 1 yr ago. Guess it was only raining Cats...Whistling [:-^]

Roy-after taking inventory, I found a few more 'work in process' kits in the stash:

1/48 Tamiya P-47 Razorback-interior painted.

1/25 Revell C6R Corvette-Body painted & decaled.

1/25 Revell Stars & Stripes Corvette-Body primed.

It's going to be hard to decide where to start.

I've got a feeling that this is the Group Build that will never end.....

Here are the Results of using Trexx's Painted Scotch Tape method. The Canopy was really poor, not much to go by, so a lot of modelers license went on it.

C-1

C-2 Simple fix for those blobby two piece windscreens.

I'd say that worked pretty dandy- good tip Trexx. So what happens if you dip it in Future? It might seal it down, I guess the downside is the frames might be shiny, but that would be ok for some schemes. Really great model.

You are correct Sean, I don't remember talking about it recently so it didn't connect.  That is the only kit that I have ever thrown away without finishing.  It was a cheap spanish manufacturer's copy (leolda sp?) and the front canopy that is split down the middle was horrible.  The two sides didn't even come close to matching up.  Disapprove [V]  Looks the real Airfix canopy was a little better.  Wink [;)]
