Some progress shots from me too ...

Got the color down and starting to decal. I was really hoping to get it finished this weekend but I didn't have any yellow paint for the prop tips. Guess I'll have to go to the LHS tomorrow.

Other than that, all the fiddly parts are painted and ready to install.

Someone posted a picture about a month ago. I think it was a corsair that had been weathered with pastels - light green over dark blue? I looked today but couldn't find it. Does anyone remember posting it (or better yet what page)?I wanted to take another look at the technique for this build.

Update on the Akagi diorama:

Cleanes the deck, but let the rest of the model fall on the floor... Did look like the real one after the US-bombers left. Anyway, it is repaired and waiting untill the deck is painted.

In the mean time, I started a I-400 diorama. (Darson, can you please note this?) and finished a Buffalo B-339 KNIL 1:72. A 1:48 in the making

Man's got to do something...

On the bench: 1:350 Yamato + I-400, 1:48 F15 strike eagle...

That was it Jason, thanks! Just a very thin wash of ochre? Any idea if that kit was raised or etched panels?

Mucker - what did you end up doing on your Hellcat? That's a similar effect to what I'm going for.

Now it's starting to look like a Hellcat. Today I got the fuesleage seams sanded, and rescribed the lost panel lines. There is one small gap on teh lower fuselage that I had to putty. Tomorrow I can sand it smoothe. Then it was sand up the mating surfaces for the wings and stabilizers to get them seated better... tha landing gear was put in place just to get its' look.

This kit is a good two decades or more older than the Hasegawa or Eduard F6Fs, but still builds up quite nicely, so far....

Gary the P-40 is looking really nice, kits always look so much better once they've got the decals on don't they. It should look excellent once you flat coat it.

Carlos the pics are a touch blurry but she still looks great, particularly the engine, nice job.

Paul I've got you down for the 1/700 Akagi and I'll happily add the I-400 Thumbs Up [tup].  Is it the Tamiya 1/350 kit?

Cheers

Carsanab-Great job on the Buff!!Bow [bow]

Richie-The Floaty is coming along well.Thumbs Up [tup]

Gary-Nice smooth finish on the P-40

Stickpusher-The Hellcat is looking great...I need to pull mine from the box and get it finished.

I am currently living on the little island of Okinawa, Japan. This Island was the last major invasion of WW2/Pacific campaign. I found a book on the battle of Okinawa and the cover picture was of a group of leathernecks fighting and useing a large stone Shi-Shi dog/ ston lion as cover. I made a few inqueries about it and was given directions to its location. The bullet holes are still visable!!! Here are some of the pics.

amazing stuff Herc!...

stickpusher the cats is looking good...

frank the zero is sweet...cant to get my hands on one...

i have a problem for anybody who might have some suggestions....

as you can see the original lines go straight down and one of the new side walls sticks with that but the other end up at a different angle if i fit it to the lip of the cockpit....does that make sense?...i have some PE that sets in the lip as i presume as a canopy rail deal...

what i am thinking is should i match the sidewall to the lip and deal with the slightly different angle on the one side...i guess its not that bad...

and if i let it follow the original angle the rail deal would render it un-noticeable....anybody have any suggestions?..

Love those pics, Herc! Great stuff. It must be cool to see up close.

Carlos, that Otaki kit is a great one indeed! I had a lot of fun building mine. Yours is coming along nicely.

Dave-My suggestion to your problem is to cut the resin top piece so that it matches the upper frame. Use plasticard to fill the small triangle that will be left from cutting and use plasticard as rib extensions. Hope this explanation helps.

Well it looks like I am going to have to change my subject for this GB.  The Kingfisher is no more.  Went into my shop and noticed it in a pile on the floor.  One of the cats must have gotten in there.  No big deal that kit was killing me.  I'll have to look through the stash to see what I have.  JOHN

Richie,  the time for the cat kebobs was a few years ago when one of older cats knocked my 48th He111Z Zwilling off the shelf.  Luckily the solid resin center wing survived so I will rebuild someday.

Im thinking for my next build...Dinner [dinner]

Hasegawa 1/48 JACK or Hasegawa 1/48 PETE....

would like to do the JACK because a long time ago I started the Tamiya one and never finished it...I think it was one of the last kits I tried to build before the "Dark Ages" when I drifted away from modeling..about 1983 I think it was..funny I still have the box in my stash...need to see whats inside it! I was starting my sr. year in HS...was more interested in B & B than anything else...Make a Toast [#toast]Party [party]

Now the PETE...well its just a floatie thingie....nuf said there...

Any suggestions??

I finished my Hasegawa Pete some weeks back.  It's a fantastic kit, just falls together and the detail is fantastic.  The only problems I had were with the PE rigging.  I found them too short.  Other than that it was a great kit.

You know Stu...the rigging is the only thing that worries me about the Pete...for some reason I dont feel comfortable with the PE rigging...I wonder if I could use really thin wire??

What a tough decision, Carlos! Personally I like the Jack, plus the idea of completing an older build. On the otehr hand I know you have a soft spot for float-planes...tough call. I'll default to your Elves' opinions.

Well I had a bit of time at the bench a couple days ago and got the preshading for the canopy and panels, and the cowl repainted. The crack that showed on the last pics along the said eof the cowl dissappeared with proper filling and sanding luckily. It's at the ugly duckling stage at the moment lol. A few pics.

Nice smooth cowl again.Approve [^]

A lil post shading on the tail feathers.

Lastly, a shot with the prop and spinner to get a feel for it.

Hopefully will feel like getting the topcoat on in the next couple days. Enjoy!!

Just a little update from the IJN shipyard...

After repairing the fallen Akagi I made a spray-line for the models I'm making. Maybe you know the feeling, just a little bit work at this model, than do something there and at the end you find yourself working on 5 models at a time... So it is busy at the warf...

First the warf, the Akagi and I-400 (both 1:700) before the first paint. Yes, I used primer...

Detail on the I-400 after painting. I first made some hatches on the deck, but they were blown away during the spraying. Mayby I put them on later... The pipe alongside the tower is the exhaustpipe. I put it on myself. Later the antennas will be self-made, fuses better in the tower.

Both ships after the first spray of paint. I-400 grey, the carrier deck white...

Both ships ready to be painted. In the mean time it was about 2.00 AM, so time for my bed...

At last a picture of my shipyard / building station / workbench. The IJN ships, a 1:6 Kawasaki Z1300 Voyager to rebuild, a F-16 in scale 1:72 and a Porsche 1:24. No, I'm not getting crazy, my wife does that for me..:-)

Tonight I paint the deck and the sub. 'Till next time!

Paul

PS, For Darson, the I-400 is a 1:700 scale

On the bench: 1:350 Yamato + I-400, 1:48 F15 strike eagle...

Looking over my PETE kit I noticed I didnt order the rigging PE....unless I place an order for it, it would mean using wire. Hmmmm

Point goes to JACK...
