An update on the 1:700 IJN warf...

The Akagi is still in dry-dock since the painting of the deck won't work... again... Perfect white sriping on a light wooden brown deck. No overspray, maybe the best sprayin I ever did. I only had to add the big red "rising sun" on the foredeck. The masking, I put on with some glueish stuff. Immedeatly the paint on the deck react with the glue and ran like water from its place, mixing brown and white... I was close to crying... Ok, the deck is cleaned and ready to start over  again...

In the mean time the I-400 is ready to float to his place. The dioramaplate is ready to be worked on. It wil be a harbour scene with planes on the deck and a tug-boat pushing the sub to the shore.

I just have no idea what the heigt of the shore should be. Also colors of the crane and building...???Anyone?

By the way, the things I see here from the experience guys... making me humble...

Regards,

Paul

PS, Darson, can you please put my I-400 dio on the list..??? please..

On the bench: 1:350 Yamato + I-400, 1:48 F15 strike eagle...

Just checking in after disappearing the last few weeks. I had surgery on my foot & have been on crutches so have not been able to sit at the bench. (I keep kicking the cabinet underneath!) I should be back on both feet this weekend & ready to finish up.

Great looking models by everyone. This is shaping up to be quite the collection.

Paul, on that Akagi you could try a trick that car modelers use for two tone seats. Mask as normal burnishing over details. Before you spray the second color, shoot a light coat of clear first and let it dry. It will seal the edge of the tape so you don't get the bleed under. You can always shoot another clear over everything when finished to get a uniform look.

Ya, they're pretty nice, molded in clear plastic so the the cockpit area will look pretty cool.  :)

got some work done on the landing gear...a few kinks in the brake lines but oh well...i will try it with wire next time...or maybe i will just redo this one...

the color scheme i was planning on doing is weird....the photos i keep looking at show the separation from top color as a straight line down the side...

instead of like this...

what would the top color be?...i guess the middle would be the intermediate blue...i am confused...

Based on the F4F in the background, I am gonna venture this was a field applied scheme of the tri color. Use Sea Blue for the darker color, the early war Blue Gray on the lower outer wings and side areas that would normally be Intermediate Blue, and White for the lowers.

U is for URANIUM... BOMBS!

N is for NO SURVIVORS...

Richie I know it was a couple of pages ago but the floaty wingy thing is looking excellent, I'm looking forward to seeing it with some decals on.

Paul, your build has been updated on Page 1 as requested.  I can't help you with the height or crane color but I'm sure if you take a little poetic licence no one will notice.

painklr Welcome Sign to the build.  Mind if ask your first name and the scale you are building in?

Scott great to have you as part of the build, I'm really looking forward to see what you can do with a ship as compared with the usual aircraft.

Carlos, lovely work on that pit it looks gorgeous, how much is kit and how much is AM?

Dave I'm thinking along the same lines as you in that the top color on that larger pic looks intermediate blue, but I like the blue grey over light grey option personally.

Cheers

Thanks Chief...

Didnt use that much PE on this pit...decided to use the kit instrument panel and decal for the guages..cut them out to fit and align easier...seatbelts, throttle controls and rudder pedals are PE and of course I added some wiring...simple but Im happy with it. Im still having trouble with my brush painting...I dont know lately its not going on smoothly. Cant tell in this pic...but if when I zoom into the IP its got a rough finish. Need to work on that.

Thanks again

Carlos

Thanks Darson, glad to be on board.  I've become rather obsesses with 1/700 (and 1/350) ships lately.

Check out these 1/700 B-25s from the Trumpeter Hornet kit.  Camera

Great stuff being posted here, guys. Nice bullet holes, Metallicus!

Carlos, the pit looks great!

I like seeing the brake lines added...that's real modelling!

Scott! long time no see. I'm glad to see you join this GB. Those are some small B-25's! Now why did they make them clear? So there is a natural "glass" windscreen?

Hi Mucker, glad to be here.  Ya, the clear plastic allows for more realism with the cockpit, nose and gun turrets.  They do the same thing with the other aircraft included in the kit, Devastator, Dauntless and Wildcats.

hey quick question for the pro's out there.

You'll notice in my bottom pic a "hole" directly above the gear housing.

My question is: How far would the gear drop out if the hydraulic's failed etc or is it completeley random

Metal, I think it might depend on the plane if hydraulic failure would drop gear some. Most have uplocks I think and even hydraulic failure won't drop them. Not sure how the Zeke's hydraulic system works. HTH!!

I saw another pic you had posted of the top of the wing and THREE holes right on the main spar line!!! If that was to really happen, I don't think you would have to worry about the wing at all, cuz more than likely it wouldn't be there!!
