I too have started my SBD and Pete.  Don't be mad but there is also a large A-7D Corsair sitting on my workbench.  It's in the "Adding the last bits and pieces" phase (Those MERs take up soooooo much time to get right), so I admittedly did not spend the entire evening on the Group build.  I managed to lay down primers, pre-shades and interior colors, and brushed some details on both planes.  I'm really wishing that Squadron made a Detail and Scale on the Pete as I am really held hostage by the instructions.  For the SBD I can only go so far until my Ultracast seats arrive (7-10 days).  I also did most of the sub-assemblies on the Pete, Pontoon, upper and lower wings.

Editorial note:  I know the Pete is a newly-tooled release from Hasegawa but I am very impressed.  I was holding the box and sneezed and the damn thing fell together on me.  The detailing is incredible, panel lines, rivets and fabric surfaces are expertly molded.  This is a real winner from Hasegawa

Thanks a lot, Stu! Now I want one!

Progress on my A5M2: Interior pieces cut from sprues and sprayed with Mitsubishi cockpit green (Aeromaster). Unfortunately the paint went "bad" so I hope no touch up is needed.

This is my first time working with white metal, and so far I am impressed with the details. No pics at this time.

Progress will be slow over the weekend...I hope to be at Thunder Over Michigan.

I always figured if I ever get  this kit - I would display it up above the doorway like an old musket  Laugh [(-D]

Albert -  Where did you get the templates for your conversion ?

All the templates, resin conning tower, 5" deck gun, etc, came from Iron Bottom Sound. It comes in a single conversion kit. Here's the link:

http://ibs.eastcoastarmory.com/index.htm

Latter this week, I'll start filling in the limbor holes on the side vents and then add the styrene sheets to the deck sides.

Put me down for a Trumpeter 1:350 Fletcher Class.

The model is called the sullivans but its of course a Fletcher class. It won't be perfect but i'll do my best!

And possibly a 1:350th Bismark. Dunno what brand yet. Still looking

So your gonna clean that up right? No, i'm just gonna let it sit there. It'll give me something to do when theres nothing else to do.

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] aboard Austyn!!!!! The CO will be around shortly to assign you a berth for the voyage!!! Looking forward to the 'Sullivans' Fletcher!!!! I would like to build a 1/72 R/C of a Fletcher if I can get a decent plan!!!! However Austyn, I'm sorry, we cannot accept the Bismarck as it was in the Atlantic. We would however, LOVE to see a 1:350 Yamato, or IOWA, or Hornet, or........!!!!!!!!! Like the big guns!!!!!Tongue [:P] Keep looking!!!

Hey all...

Although not part of my GB roster, I just completed a Hasegawa Val I had sitting on my shelf 95% complete....during a move I somehow lost the cowl so I had to adjust the cowl from a Fujimi kit to fit...lots of sanding and cutting..still it is a Pacific player....

Mucker....you might remember this one from a while back...yeah I never finished it..

My brother just shot me over a link to a new HBO miniseries from Spielberg and Tom Hanks called "The Pacific".  Thought the timing of that plus the group build was neat.  There's a trailer out there on Google, looks very Band of Brothers-ish

Yup, defintinately has the Pvt Ryan/Band of Brothers air to it... I wonder if this is gonna be factual or historical fiction? The visuals look good!

Used dry brushing and also the simple dot of paint and streak it back with the finger tip routine. you can also use a q-tip fro streaking...i also highlighted with a silver coloring pencil the panel lines.

Well i guess i missed the PACIFIC part in the title and the guidlines. Haha. And Actually i have an Iowa class built but unpainted. So i will paint! If you go to the ship section of the forum and locate the nephews first build thread by doc you can see my Iowa and unpainted Flecther.

Please note I am new to this, those 3 ships in that thread are the first i've ever been serious about building. So they won't be the best but i'm trying! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

No worries Austyn, sounds good!!!!! ANy build that gets finished and you are satisfied with is all you can ask for. I'm still learning things after 30 yrs!!!!!!! But you must build to practice, and practice makes you better!!! So let the styrene fly!!.... er I mean float!!! So many kits, so little time!!!! Most of all, have fun while doing it!!!!Big Smile [:D]

Ok, 2 days in and I've started. I'll be using this nice vintage Airfix kit, the box is a little rough but its all there.

The interior, not a lot will be visible, but at least it has more than a guy glued to a peg, I like the little downstairs mother in law suite. Smile [:)]

Aaron can't wait to see that lil gem come into it's own!!!!Thumbs Up [tup] For it's age it looks quite good!!! That was the same with my Swordfish, as old as the hit was, it still had a much better interior than the newer revell kit. Old Airfix kits can be made into something grand, and your is on it's way!!!! Great work so far!!!!!!

Old kit good.

Hey Aaron on the other build, the Walrus. What's the marking scheme?

Simpilot, I'm re-discovering some of these old kits. I've got this one, a Monogram Albatross and the Matchbox Walrus going. I've also picked up several more old Airfix and Matchbox kits. There is something really nice with these old kits, I can actually finish them. Big Smile [:D]

Bondo, the Walrus is going to be like the box art, light blue underside, green & bluish grey on top. I just slapped the blue on the bottom so I can mask it for the upper side paint scheme.

Looking forward to seeing them all Aaron!!!!!! The last model show I picked up the classic Monogram P-6E and F4B-4 kits!! Like many classics, there is enough there to work with and make it right!!! I had both those kits when I was about 15 i think and Had to have them knowing that I would make them ten times better then I did before!!!

Hey guys, sorry I haven't checked in for a couple of days but I've been feeling a tad poorly and haven't been near the PC at all.

Oh by the way, The Pacific miniseries was filmed here in Melbourne not far from where I work back in 2008. I've gotta say I'm really looking forward to it coming out.

Now to go back and read the last two pages of post and see what I've missed.

Darren, glad you are doing a bit better!!!! Hope for full recovery soon!!!!!!!Smile [:)]

Have broken sprue on the Jake and being a fairly old Hasegawa kit there is lots of flash to clean up and fit issues with this kit I have read reviews on. I mentioned awhile back about a book I have called The Anatomy of the ship: Yamato. In the back there is a drawing of a Jake that the Yamato was either carrying or was to carry. I have no pics of the Yamato with a Jake. Does anyone else have one? I'm going off this ref. I have only. If I can't find any by the time I have to decide what variant I have to drill the corresponding holes for, i will just do one of the kit choices to keep it simpler.

Thanks Richie, but it's nothing much, just enough to lay me low for a couple of days.

Can't help with the Jake on the Yamato sorry. I did a search for images and the best I could come up with was the box art for your kit. Unless somebody else has something you will probably have to stick to the image you've got.

Cheers
