Glad your OK Darren!!! Thanks for that!!! yeah I looked for a couple hours and kept getting repeats of stuff and the ONLY cockpit pics I could find is a wreck in th water off New Guinea!!!!! Anyways, sort ofa sad story but ok ending. Today I ventured up to Snowy Mountain to get the gunze paints called fo in the instructions. They don't carry that brand, but did manage some good finds for a decent haul of goodies. I still had time to catch Hearns and Vic Hobby so off I went. Grabbed the Jake instructions and put them in my jumper pocket and headed off t Hearn's. they were shut, went and grabbed a dog and root beer on theway to vic hobbies. got to vic hobbies and went to pull out my instructions to get the right paints and THEY WERE NOT THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AFTER NEARLY 20 YEARS OF HAVING THE KIT I LOSE THE FRIGGIN INSTRUCTIONS IN MELBOURNE SOMEWHERE ON FLINDERS!!!!!!!!!! I bought the kit in '89 when I was in the USAF on Guam. It has travelled from Guam to Georgia(US) then to here in OZ!!!! And I bloody lose the instructions!!!!!!!! However, fate has had me copy the instructions a few days ago so I could put them up on the wall as a HUD. SO, I still have them, but not the originals I have had for so long!!!!!Censored [censored]Boohoo [BH]Sigh [sigh] Just a sentimental thing hehe. Sorry to waffle but had to vent my frustrations!!!!Cool [8D]

Darren-glad to hear that you are recovering.  Hope you get to feeling 100% soon.

Ritchie-Glad that you had the copy of the instructions although I know the feeling of frustration of losing the orginial copy.

Still deciding whether I am going to go with the Hasegawa P-40 w/PE Zoom kit or with the AMTech OOB.  I'm working on a couple of other builds (that are way past due) so I'll be another week or two before I have to decide.

Darren- Glad your getting better!

In addition to my Fletcher, puut me down for a 1/350th 1987 Revell Iowa Class

So your gonna clean that up right? No, i'm just gonna let it sit there. It'll give me something to do when theres nothing else to do.

Richie sorry to hear about losing the original instructions but given that you have already photocopied them then I think fate has decreed that you must build this kit.

Jim Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the build, we've already officially started but as this build goes for a year feel free to chime in anytime you like.

Mo, the official start date was the 13th July so you can start any time you like.

Bob hmm that's a difficult choice but I'm going to put down my vote for the Hase + zoom. Also a quick note on the Hase P-40. Attach the separate fuselage inserts to the fuselage halves as step No 1. If you do it as a plug which is the way the instructions say, then you are in for a world of sanding and filling.

Austyn, no probs I'll add it to the roster.

Cheers

Thank you all, this looks like fun. I picked up the paint for the Jake today. I will probly start on Monday. I have to have back surgery in the next couple of weeks so I may be gone for a week or two, but I will finish on time.

Thanks for the input guys-still a little while before I get started, but I am leaning toward the Hasegaswa kit....

Darren-thanks for the tips....should make for a much better seam.  The funny thing about the AMTech kit is that AMT had some 'issues' and the tail is 'mismatched'.  I would have to cut the tail section off and re-attach, much like the Hasegawa kit.

Arki-sorry that you are dropping out-you add a lot to any GB you're involved in.

Richie, mucker - I'll still be around and may jump back in later if time permits.  This is a long build.

Bob - Thanks for the nice compliment!  It's always good to see your name in a group build as well. Now just pick something and build it! Whistling [:-^]Big Smile [:D]

SIR YES SIR!  HASEGAWA P-40E SIR! 49th Fighter Group SIR!

Hope to see you jump back in if time permits. I'm catching up on some 'past due' builds before I start on this one.  Should be able to start on the P-40E in early August.  Currently in-between careers so between job searching & catching up on household projects, I should be able to make some headway.....now to find a job.....

Hey all, I've been progressing through both the SBD and the Pete, but I'm at an impass.  I'm still waiting on my Ultracast seats for the Dauntless, can't go any further without them.  I'm also really hung up on the seatbelts on the Pete.  I cannot find any references that have accurate cockpit pics.  I'm assuming it's just a pair of lap belts on the pilot and gunner's seats, but need some form of reference so I can duplicate.  Anyone out there happen to know what the Pete used to keep the crew from falling out?

I'll post pics of my, um, "progress" tonight when I get home.

Good luck on the job hunt.  To say it's a tough market out there is an understatement.

Don't know if it will have what you need, but it's a good resource nonetheless.

Thanks arki30, saved to the favorites. I've a Tamiya A6M2 that I was planning on building to go along side the F4F. The reference photos will help! I've no info on IJ warplanes. Thanks again for posting that site.

JD I was looking forref pics for the Jake as well last night and found a few that show some good pics, here is one to try: http://www.warbirdsresourcegroup.org/IJARG/aichie13a.html and http://www.wwiivehicles.com/japan/aircraft/floatplane/aichi-e13a-jake.asp and http://www.century-of-flight.net/Aviation%20history/photo_albums/timeline/ww2/Aichi%20E13A%20Jake.htm

They have varying degrees of detail but from what I have found out, the rigging was in between the float struts on both versions. Only the early one had the rigging going out from the floats on either side. Later version had the extra struts on the inboard side of the floats in lieu of rigging. The kit instructions seem to be fairly accurate in there placements as well. HTHBig Smile [:D]

Was digging farther and came up with some interesting sites for Japanese aircraft with detail shots of a Sakae 21 engine mounted on an Irving at the NASM!!! Excellent stuff!! and the other is a site that details the Kensai engine design which is found on the Jake and several others. Enjoy!

JD sorry for not mentioning the slingshot!!!Blush [:I] Looks great mate!!! The Jake will look great setting on that!! My kit is much older and is just the plane itself. I have a cradle drawing in the Yamato book, so I might try to construct something to rest mine on rather than just let it set on the floats.

Jason, looking forward to some pics soon!!!!
