SC, not a good idea to use used needles even if you know where they came from.  Especially those used by diabetics as I've been told that even trace amounts of insulin can do you harm.  My best friend is diabetic and I asked him once for his used needles and was told absolutely NOT!

Yeah if you happend to stick youself and got some insulin in you it could defintely drop your blood sugar which is not good. Thats the main reason I have not tryed using them though the thought does occur to me from time to time. Then I decide better.

Rob I'm sorry to hear your troubles but despite all that it's looking good in the pictures, I find the fit of the parts on this kit (Eduard A-8) a little "hazy"  so I really appreciate what your talking about, I remember the Hellcat going together beautifully.

You can get what look like very nice turned brass barrels from a company called 'Master' (find them on the Ultracast website), maybe not so much fun as making your own but very tasty.

Cheers...

Hey Julez,

I wouldn't let my problems deter you- it is a highly detailed kit and will look great in the end. The problems I am having are most likely related to me- perhaps things could have been better aligned in the beginning, although I thought they were, and maybe I could have put more thought into every step- although I thought I did. One thing is for sure, I don't think I will get another Eduard kit again.

Rob- Sorry about the troubles you are having with that kit, seems like that Eduard 190 is a beast!  Think I'll stick with my Tamiya kits for now.

Looking at the photos, it is looking very good indeed.  Only one can see is the missing gun.  I too have used needles for guns, and also use a cutting wheel in a dremel to cut it.  The .40 rod is a good idea too.  Another one to consider is stretching some styrene tubing, that way you get the diameter you want and it will be pre-drilled since it started out as tubing.  Just an idea!

Thanks, Daywalker

I think I'll try the needle idea- I've got tons in my office- just have to get a cutting wheel for my dremel.

Damon & Mike/Spike--Thanks for the comments on "Yellow 10".  The camo took a lot of work and I am glad you like it.  The next plane (Do 17 Z) will be basic splinter.  Big Smile

Rob--Don't be down.  The A 8 looks fantastic.  JB Models sells 151 20mm barrels, brass, that look great.  They deliver fast too.

Hello everyone,

I've been really busy with work, and have had hardly any time in the last 2 weeks to work on the model, but I've finished the engine using many PE parts. I left off the rear wiring- it really needed to be done before I glued on the exhaust pipes- I just wanted to keep things moving.

Thanks

Rob

Turkey - Focke-Wulf 190 Aa-3  In the middle of 1942 the RLM issued an export order for FW 190s to be sent to Turkey. Turkey received 72 FW 190 Aa-3 (a for auslandisch - foreign) aircraft between October 1942 and March 1943. The first FW 190 Aa-3 was built in August 1942. The FW 190 Aa-3 received its own Werk Nummer block, 0134 101 - 0134 172 (although it is not known if W.Nr 110, 123, 146 and 148 were handed over). These aircraft were basically FW 190 A-3s, with BMW 801 D-2 engines, and FuG VIIa radios. However, they did not have FuG 25 radios, and had an armament fit of four MG 17s, with the option of installing two MG FF/M cannon in the outer wing position.

The Turkish FW 190s served as fighters during their time in service, and left the Turkish Air Force in 1948 and 1949.

The four Squadrons were nicknamed Akbas (Whitehead), Sarýbas (Blondehead), Albas (Redhead) and Karabas (Blackhead), with their propeller spinners matching colours with their nicknames.

Tamiya Fw-190 A-3 in 1/72. One of their great little "warbirds" kits, pretty much one sprue of really first class parts for $ 15.00.

I bought the decals from Turquoise Decal in Turkey. I'm sending them the pics for their website, too.

I hope you like her, this was fun, and thanks Frank for another wonderful GB.

Bondoman: Nice 1/72 FW! I don't know how people can work on that scale and get nice results. Interesting bit of history as well!

Stumpjumper: I painted the pipes MM aluminum acrylic, then using the rust coloured Tamyia weathering powder(?) (not quite a powder- more make-up like), I rubbed it on using the foam brush, used the smoke colour (in the same kit) as well as some Tamiya smoke paint.

Here are the needle barrels. Close to scale, but could be perhaps one more gauge bigger (I used 21 ga). I found a photo of Willi Maximowitz's A8 (this is one of the three decal options in this kit), and it clearly shows the outboard barrels to be just out of the wing, with the inboard barrels sticking out quite a bit- which differs from the instructions and other models Ihave seen on the web. They're not perfect, but I 'm going with them!

Tongue TiedTongue TiedTongue Tied  Wow Bill, didn't even know you were working on one!!!  Thought you were completely buried in the ships section.  Great little build and I had no idea Turkey had Fw's.  I'm going to have to give the Tamiya kit a try one of these days.

thank you for the nice comments.

I'm down to giveing the plane a dullcote and weathering. which I've stepped away from modeling for a few years now. would I put on the decals before doing both...and what about painting on future since I dont have a airbrush to do it ( yes I know I need one) I used the canned air paint for the bottom of the plane thats why it looks 10x better!

Very well done Bill!  I remember years back, looking through a 190 reference book and seeing a profile of one of these birds.  Up until now, I have never seen one built.  Thanks for the build my friend!  Page one updated. Yes

Good day everyone!

Thought I would post some WIP pics I have.

First, as some of you may remember, the kit I am building was purchased at a swap meet.  It was a collection of DML/Promodeler sprues and instructions tossed in a zip lock and listed as missing the details for the cockpit and no decals...at $3 I could live with that.  Well, lo and behold, it was missing a bit more than that, namely the forward fuselage cover!  Eek!!  What to do?  I hemmed and hawed and considered just dropping out of the GB but a cooler head prevailed.  At first I decided to just try and scratch build it.  Here is a shot from above and as you can see I put in two sprue braces to support the planned plasticard replacement:

You can also see a bit of the CMK replacement cockpit.  Here is another angle where you can see the gauges and such and just barely make out some Lion's Roar Luftwaffe PE foot pedals:

Here you can see the brass tubing used for the cannon.  They are a bit shorter that I think they should be but no turning back now:

The idea of scratch building the part, while intriguing, was, I believe, a bit beyond my current skills.  So what to do?  Go eBay!  I picked up another kit for cheap-o($12.50 with free shipping!), snipped out the part, and made a mold:

And here, though it is very hard to see the detail as the resin is snow white, is the recast part:

With any luck, I will get to priming this weekend!

Thanks for looking,

Mike

Nice save, Mike! You are a true modeling craftsman. Better keep the newest one unbuilt till you get through the original bag'o parts.

Thanks for the kind words, Bondoman Bow Down

Luckily for me everything else I 'need' appears to be there or I have other options.  For example, I found out Thursday night that the loop antennae was missing but I had a PE one, so its all good!

Mike- Outstanding stuff, your resin casting turned very well indeed!  Have you done a lot of casting?  Your results look splendid indeed.

Krow- Excellent work!

Daywalker,

Thanks for the kind words!

As for casting, nope, I really haven't done all that much.  I believe this is my fourth or fifth mold.  This one turned out pretty well save for one corner(conveniently hidden in the photo!)where I had to open up the mold a bit to pour in the resin.  Hopefully with a little paint over the top it won't be too noticeable.

No sir. PE loop/ rdf antennas are beneath your skills. Scrounge around or go to radio shack and buy some armature wire. Wrap it around a dowel.

Alright, I have a kit to trade. I bought this at a cigar store, don't ask.  Wrong scale, first five PM's entertained with offers in trade will be considered, and no, I have no expectations but I like 1/72.
