BTW does anyone know who makes 1/24th figures that might work into a dio with this kit? I recall Tamiya having a race car crew set some years back but no luck finding one I guess they discontinued it.

Having glued in the cockpit assy to the R/H fuselage half last night and letting it sit 24 hrs. I inserted the upper cockpit panel

But the problem of the upper panel covering the lower is still a problem...CensoredAIRFIX.

Have tried sanding, cutting etc to no avail, thought about lowering the entire cockpit assy but than of course it would sit too low.

So I decided to just press on and start gluing the fuselage halves starting from the tail and work my way forward to try and fix the fit issues with that part of the build.

While the super glue is setting on the fuselage I started on correcting the Airfix MLG assemblies since I'm unable to use the SAC set. For some reason the Airfix MLG depicts a rubber boot over the oleo, wonder what references they were using?

Using an xacto knife and flexi-file I removed the boot impression

Still needs a little cleaning up but it's looking better. I'm still thinking about either removing the oleo and replace it with steel tubing or use metal foil to enhance it. Giving it a rest tonight and will finish gluing the fuselage tomorrow after work.

Looking at all the completed and in-work builds on those 48th birds is making me want to get cracking on my Eduard kit but first things first.

Hey All, Here is a pic of the globbed and pitted glosscote that I need to deal with.

So, Here's my plan of attack. I have a product produced by Polly S called ELO, Easy Lift Off. It is a paint and decal remover that will not damage the underlying plastic. I've had this for quite some years and have yet to use it to the extent that I am about to. I am going to slowly strip away the paint and glosscote on the entire right side of the fuselage. If all goes well I will then repaint using the same technique I used on the first repair job. I'm actually fairly optimistic about this. I will post progress pics as i go. Wish me luck.

However, I can say that when I ordered my 190 I wasn't terribly enthusiastic, I just wanted to join the GB. Barely started mine and have already developed a fascination for the 190's.

Yup, Here we go. Greg's gonna be good for a for a few additional months.Big Smile

OMG, that video. ".....say about five or six years ago I started getting into that level of build. And now I'm nuts".  Then he later talks about keeping his model building secret until he came out of the closet.

That is a great video. The sprue stretching showed me how simple it (should) be. Thanks Nathan, and also for making me smile which the video did.

I wish I could join in the stash mania. However, I can say that when I ordered my 190 I wasn't terribly enthusiastic, I just wanted to join the GB. Barely started mine and have already developed a fascination for the 190's.

Now I'm forced to start another one, Big Smileand heaven's I don't think I want to rob the stash for the plane, so off to the store to see if they still have a A-8.

gotta keep up with Clemen's ya know.Stick out tongue

Thats it! I'm buying the 3 190 kits at hannants now!

JOE RIX

Joe - Although I greatly appreciate the extension something became apparent to me while sitting here at the bookstore bored out of my gourd. During the 7 1/2 months we're into this GB there has been this irresistable urge to buy additional FW 190 kits amongst the participants. So, given the extension I will likely purchase 4-5 more 190 kits. You're probably good for a couple, John a good 6 or 7, Doug 1or 2 and Clemens, well, my calculator can't handle those kind of numbers. This influx of 190 kits will most certainly facilitate yet another extension during which more 190 kits will be accumulated. Thus, another extension, then more 190 kits....extension....more 190 kits....extension.....more 190 kits...and,well, Bygum Joe I do believe you have inadvertently discovered the answer to the riddle of the perpetual motion machine.

Your post made my day, buddy!!! The best thing about it: It's so true... About the number of my 190 purchases: any device that can handle the definition of "everything imaginable" can in fact handle that number. Now we just have to find such a device!

Rigidrider

Alright! Let me check the stash, Unlike some of us here I ONLY have 12 left in stash to choose from... Lets see... Stash math, I remove one I have to find 3 to replace it with...OK, Makes perfect sense to me.

I think there might be something wrong with your (or my?) theory of stash math. I get an end result of 5 190s to replace every single 190 I build... (or 2 in 1/32) Please check your theory again - I'll do the same. I'm sure we can find the mistake one of us made...

Ahh, thank you, Joe.

I've read about the stretched sprue method, haven't tried it yet. Appears to work well, truly looks good! When I'm ready to give it a go, I'll pick your brain, my friend. :) And I'll bet that Optivisor did come in handy!

Greg, check out this video for a good learning on stretched sprue:

John: Tell me more about Nordicon- when exactly and where? I might be able to get away to the cites the end of Sept. but we usually take an annual trip there after the snow flies.

JOE RIX
Joe - Upon seeing the pics of your completed 190 I had to literally catch my breath. And then before I simply flipped out a string of random accolades I stopped myself to fully consider the amount of work you put into this along with the accompanying issues you had to overcome to achieve the remarkable results that you have. Joe, that is a truely magnificent build. It is a fantastic testament to the skill, patience and attention to detail you have invested in your work. You are without a doubt at the top of your game. It is my absolute pleasure to be able to build along with you as you certainly inspire me to put my best efforts forward and to never be daunted by shortcomings in a kit or in ones skills. And, Man o Man am I ever looking forward to your D-9.

This. I couldn't say it any better, so I'll just add a big "AMEN" to it!

Also, Thank you for considering extending the GB. I was growing unsure whether I would be able to complete mine in a timely fashion, given my paint issues. I'm also still considering a 2nd 190 if time permits.

Greg

Joe, add me to the list of folks who would like to be able to see her in person. Stunning results, fantastic workmanship.

Of all the dumb things, I'd like to ask how you accomplished the clean "T" join of your antenna wire?

First of all thank you everybody for the good comments! I would have been amazed if would have only turned out half as good as I thought it would in the beginning with this thing. Warped issue after warped issue. Again thanks guys. Couldn't ask for a better group of guys to build with. Now..........on to the D-9!!!!

Greg: I ended up using stretched sprue on this one. I'll go into more detail later if you want it but the clean T joint was accomplished with a DAB" of super glue on either end of the vertical portion of the stretched sprue. Opti visors come in very handy here!
