Good info Joe, Thanks for posting. I've never had much luck with the Mr Color paints and as you said, WOW, the smell is indeed a factor in choosing paints, for me any way.

Doug, thanks for the kind words, Buddy! You started it, and the rest of the guys just hooked me more. Hopelessly. :) Same back at ya, btw.

Tony, was all ready to comment on how nice and clean your cockpit looks, then noticed Joe's comment on the 1/72nd (I managed to miss it, even with all the visual clues). Amazes me as well. I'm clueless how to control pre-shading on 1/48th, so I'm obviously impressed with yours. Looking great!

Mustang Joe, thanks for adding me back in, amigo. I woulda stuck around anyway due to the great folks, but it'll be more fun for me this way. Plus I get to bother Clemens endlessly, lucky him. :)

Joe Rix, thanks mate! I'm the one who's excited about staying. :) And thanks for the link to the Gunze article, interesting reading.

Nathan, MN eh? We're almost neighbors then (I'm in  IN). Thanks for the additional info on LuckyModels. I did some looking, even with shipping costs, things can end up less expensive. Must try when I'm looking for something like Aqueous, and I'll have to add a kit to the order. :)

And thanks for the scheme suggestion. Being my first Eduard kit, I am overwhelmed (positively) by the full color scheme illustrations and will be sticking to one of them cuz I think it will be a good aid for me at this poin, but I just looked and whichever I choose, it will be quite similar to #43!

I think somebody told me that Gunze's "H-" designation is Aqueous, and "C-" is regular Mr Color? And I finally found the Gunze (mrhobby.com) site, and I see no indication of discontinuation of Aqueous from the mfg (translated, sorta, courtesy of Google)

Doug, just can't come up with anything but to repeat the Wow's already stated. Brilliant work, mate.

Lawdog- Great paint job . Gotta love those Gunze RLM colors. The greens look spot on. I'm with Greg. They aren't discontinued they just aren't available in the states, so without LuckyModel, I'd be screwed

.  I just checked Lucky Model's site.  Can I assume that their "Mr. Color" acrylic paint is the same as the Aqueous line?  I could swear my Aqueous bottles looked different than these.

Joe

Yes, LuckyModel calls them Acrylic. Gunze has changed the look of their aqueous bottles from time to time, so they can look different. As a side note Lawdog- you can use Mr. color lacquer thinner with the Aqueous as well, just like you do with your Tamiya paints-it gives the same effect: silk smooth and super thin, translucent coats.

Joe Rix- Mr. Color solvent laquers are available at Sprue Brothers. They carry the entire line and is usually well stocked.

Doug- Again, great work on that D-9. You did great with the old Dragon plastic!

Tony-great shading. the Blue/gray looks good.

I think I managed to sort out my decal problem and I'm finishing the last 2 IPs today, so I should be able to finally post some pics of all the completed cockpits tomorrow...

Thanks for the comments everyone. Joe - yours s a lot more detailed than mine. Mine is really an illustration of a colour scheme on a neat model, not much more than that.

Greg - I found that by thinning the paint some more, and reducing the flow, pre-shading became easy.  It's very forgiving.

Here's the latest, mid panel line wash. Need to tidy it up and ge a flat coat down, add the pitot and some guns, the wheels and bay doors.

I've got to say the scheme weirds me out a bit, it doesn't look like a 190 should ....

Cheers

It's really impressive how you managed to knock out such a good looking build in so little time, Tony!

I'm adding the glass effect to the IPs and let it dry. I'll post pics of the completed cockpits tonight...

Very nicely done Tony. You have done some really nice work in short order. Thank You for sharing your skills and build with us. Like Joe said, there's plenty of time for another. I mean, heck, why wouldn't you want to hang around a bunch nutjobs like us.

Quick update from my world. I have the gloss cote on. Used the Tamiya Gloss cote so as to not have anymore issues. It went on wonderfully, THANK GOD!! Thusly, I'm in the decaling process now. I will have pics soon.

Keep that good stuff coming guys.

Tony, it takes me longer to familiarize myself with a kit and get started than it did you to complete this. :) I wouldn't have guessed it is 1/72 by looking at your finished pics. Nice work! The lack of decals (relatively speaking) seems to draw more attention to your excellent exterior finish.

Thanks for the additional comments about your preshading technique. What scheme is this, btw? Or should I say what country? I'm very unfamiliar with such things.

Well I got some time at the bench this weekend on build 2 and three.    here's my 1/48 Dragon A-7 for the snake-head scheme.

And here's the Airfix A-8  for the snake-head scheme.

Hopefully I'll get alot of time on them at the end of the week.

Greg

Thanks Greg and everyone,

The French completed production of a few FW 190s after the war, in one of the factories that the Germans had previously located in France. The French Armee De L'Air flew various models of FW 190A from 1946 to 1949. To my knowledge, they carried two basic schemes, grey, like mine, and Dark Green. I am tempted to also do this one in the new year, but I'll see then.

I read somewhere that the French deployment of 190s was considered a success as an interim fighter, as they cost about 1.5 million Francs to complete, whereas the cost of a new Spitfire would have been about 20 million Frances at that time.

Either way, I somehow find these immediate post war deployments interesting, I'm also think about a few other aircraft types and maybe some middle east armor, like a Syrian Panzer IV.

Cheers

Tony

The airfix is 1/72 scale.  My dragon is not a D model so I don't need to cut the nose off.  but I've seen what the other guys on this thread can do and is seems to work out fine.

over all its looks like a 190 the primer is tamyia and its laquer base and I mixed it to hot I wanted a thin coat but it went on to dry need to play with the mix and air. it dose powder up nice and feathers edge nicely  when sanded. I was afraid to use my modern master acryl primer I don't know if it will start rolling up wen sanded. ill have to try on my sample plane.

Nathan... What can I say but DAYUM... You can come up with some of the most obscure info and I mean that in a good way! Well that looks close but I think that 9 is either brown or red? Again this air craft being a very late war D-9,  I had quite a bit of trouble finding much on her, but I liked the scheme. All I was able to find was it was likely,( the books authors words) a D-9 that flew with 8 Staffle/JG102 which flew from Flensberg, until March 15th 1945 when the unit surrendered and was disbanded.

Thanks for always helping with research and tech. tips!

You should see my obscure Dora collection Doug! Thats just the beginning. I have a cool vid of 2 of them surrendering to the Allies. One is the more famous Blue 12 while the other one is rarely shown elsewhere. I'll post up the link later. Which book did the scheme come from Doug?

Blackdog-great work on scratching a new scoop! looks right on, maybe a bit more sanding to give it a rounder profile. Feels good to be about ready for paint doesn't it?

Great quick build Tony. Thanks for the info behind the model. I knew the French operated the 190As, along with Yak 3s post war but didn't know all the details behind it. Thanks!

falconmod   that's mybad I got my dragon kits mixed up. its my dragon ta-152s that you have to cut off the nose and replace with another that comes in the kit.

I have read several reviews on the dragon 190a-8 and I guess its highly  prized kit for colectors in its tristar kit.  and also read that reval and hasegawa has molded the same kit not sure how accurate the info on the hasegawa is. others may know.

Hey Nathan... Thanks again for the info, and Yes It would be amazing I'm sure to be able to see your collection! I also,(by my builds) like the lesser known birds of prey. Still nice to see the well known too, but I like to honor the not so well known. I have several FW books but  I believe the book I finally decided on to do my build was called Focke Wulf 190-D and Ta152 camoflage and markings vol.3. Its not a very indepth book and little info other then the pictures when available, and brief foot notes describing the aircraft and likely RLM colorings.

And yes... Tony, Great finish and subject! It does kinda wierd you out seeing an FW in those colors and markings, but hey... Interesting and a good build none the less!

Black Dog... I (like Joe) like the stage your at now... not long before paint! Looks good brother...

Falcon... Glad to see you back at it!

All the IPs are finished now, but I just noticed that I have to add a few tiny PE pieces to the Eduard cockpits. I'm working on it right now, so I should be able to get some pics up in about 1 hour. In case I don't make it in time, I'll post them tomorrow morning (which should be today at 12 PM in hte states) or in the very early afternoon (1 PM or something like that.)
