Nathan my friend... would be great to know some more about this bird. Alot of the time I see an interesting subject in a book, then try to find all I can on the internet. It would be great to have an extensive library to research, and Ive found that some info is at best a guess and less then accurate.  I'm working on the library,  but books have gone WAY beyond my budget.

Thanks

Doug

Doug that is truly a great build! The closest I've come to an OOB build is the Dauntless that I'm currently finishing up with , but more on that in a PM. The paint work and weathering on this build of yours is gripping! It has been an absolute pleasure to have you in this GB with us and am looking forward to the next one you were talking about! I'll post the pic in the intro post buddy. Thank you for being a part of this GB pal, Joe

OK friends... I'm thinking shes done...This is a late war D-9 which from my info was part of 8 staffle/Jg102 which flew from Flensberg from Oct. 1944 until she was surrenderer and the Group was disbanded on March 15, 1945... No info was found on the pilot , or much else about the Group other then this craft was a fighter bomber among a loosely knit mix of aircraft thrown together in defence of the Riech. I hope I have done a close representation of this aircraft.

I had forgot the joy of a good kit built OOB and really enjoyed doing so again... I think over the years that many kits have been Detailed Down, to cater to the occasional builder whose heart is not really into the craft, and lets not forget the cost now a days. Still, You just cant beat a good kit right from the ole box... Thanks for looking... By the way Joe (mustang) This still kinda leaves time for another , .... Hmmm...

blackdog62

.

I have a question for you do know of any books that are like the 190d bibles for ww2 armor that are photo heavy like they are.

I order on line a lot and would hate to drop that kind of money on just text.

Sorry Blackdog, can't help you much for the armor side of things. I'd suggest asking in the Armor forum.

NATHAN  its great to be involved with like minded plp . other then myself I don't know other moclers and ww2 history buffs. so im getting much more out of this forum then expected.

I have a small library on both subjects but I normally don't drop the type of money on books like the fw-190d bibles 1&2 but im looking now.

All the IPs are finished now, but I just noticed that I have to add a few tiny PE pieces to the Eduard cockpits. I'm working on it right now, so I should be able to get some pics up in about 1 hour. In case I don't make it in time, I'll post them tomorrow morning (which should be today at 12 PM in hte states) or in the very early afternoon (1 PM or something like that.)

Hey Nathan... Thanks again for the info, and Yes It would be amazing I'm sure to be able to see your collection! I also,(by my builds) like the lesser known birds of prey. Still nice to see the well known too, but I like to honor the not so well known. I have several FW books but  I believe the book I finally decided on to do my build was called Focke Wulf 190-D and Ta152 camoflage and markings vol.3. Its not a very indepth book and little info other then the pictures when available, and brief foot notes describing the aircraft and likely RLM colorings.

And yes... Tony, Great finish and subject! It does kinda wierd you out seeing an FW in those colors and markings, but hey... Interesting and a good build none the less!

Black Dog... I (like Joe) like the stage your at now... not long before paint! Looks good brother...

Falcon... Glad to see you back at it!

falconmod   that's mybad I got my dragon kits mixed up. its my dragon ta-152s that you have to cut off the nose and replace with another that comes in the kit.

I have read several reviews on the dragon 190a-8 and I guess its highly  prized kit for colectors in its tristar kit.  and also read that reval and hasegawa has molded the same kit not sure how accurate the info on the hasegawa is. others may know.

You should see my obscure Dora collection Doug! Thats just the beginning. I have a cool vid of 2 of them surrendering to the Allies. One is the more famous Blue 12 while the other one is rarely shown elsewhere. I'll post up the link later. Which book did the scheme come from Doug?

Blackdog-great work on scratching a new scoop! looks right on, maybe a bit more sanding to give it a rounder profile. Feels good to be about ready for paint doesn't it?

Great quick build Tony. Thanks for the info behind the model. I knew the French operated the 190As, along with Yak 3s post war but didn't know all the details behind it. Thanks!

Nathan... What can I say but DAYUM... You can come up with some of the most obscure info and I mean that in a good way! Well that looks close but I think that 9 is either brown or red? Again this air craft being a very late war D-9,  I had quite a bit of trouble finding much on her, but I liked the scheme. All I was able to find was it was likely,( the books authors words) a D-9 that flew with 8 Staffle/JG102 which flew from Flensberg, until March 15th 1945 when the unit surrendered and was disbanded.

Thanks for always helping with research and tech. tips!

Doug

over all its looks like a 190 the primer is tamyia and its laquer base and I mixed it to hot I wanted a thin coat but it went on to dry need to play with the mix and air. it dose powder up nice and feathers edge nicely  when sanded. I was afraid to use my modern master acryl primer I don't know if it will start rolling up wen sanded. ill have to try on my sample plane.

TAX    great looking project strange seeing a 190 in those colors

FALCONMOD      what scale is the airfix ?.  I have the dragon also just not sure about cutting that nose off.

GREG      that torpedobomben model you did turned out looking really good. I see its at my HS this morning do you recommend it as a purches ?

Blackdog62

The airfix is 1/72 scale.  My dragon is not a D model so I don't need to cut the nose off.  but I've seen what the other guys on this thread can do and is seems to work out fine.

Greg

Thanks for the additional comments about your preshading technique. What scheme is this, btw? Or should I say what country? I'm very unfamiliar with such things.

Thanks Greg and everyone,

The French completed production of a few FW 190s after the war, in one of the factories that the Germans had previously located in France. The French Armee De L'Air flew various models of FW 190A from 1946 to 1949. To my knowledge, they carried two basic schemes, grey, like mine, and Dark Green. I am tempted to also do this one in the new year, but I'll see then.

I read somewhere that the French deployment of 190s was considered a success as an interim fighter, as they cost about 1.5 million Francs to complete, whereas the cost of a new Spitfire would have been about 20 million Frances at that time.

Either way, I somehow find these immediate post war deployments interesting, I'm also think about a few other aircraft types and maybe some middle east armor, like a Syrian Panzer IV.

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Well I got some time at the bench this weekend on build 2 and three.    here's my 1/48 Dragon A-7 for the snake-head scheme.

And here's the Airfix A-8  for the snake-head scheme.

Hopefully I'll get alot of time on them at the end of the week.

JOE RIX

Quick update from my world. I have the gloss cote on. Used the Tamiya Gloss cote so as to not have anymore issues. It went on wonderfully, THANK GOD!! Thusly, I'm in the decaling process now. I will have pics soon.

I'm looking forward to that Joe. Good to see you building steady again pal! Wink

Tony, it takes me longer to familiarize myself with a kit and get started than it did you to complete this. :) I wouldn't have guessed it is 1/72 by looking at your finished pics. Nice work! The lack of decals (relatively speaking) seems to draw more attention to your excellent exterior finish.

Thanks for the additional comments about your preshading technique. What scheme is this, btw? Or should I say what country? I'm very unfamiliar with such things.

Very nicely done Tony. You have done some really nice work in short order. Thank You for sharing your skills and build with us. Like Joe said, there's plenty of time for another. I mean, heck, why wouldn't you want to hang around a bunch nutjobs like us.

It's really impressive how you managed to knock out such a good looking build in so little time, Tony!

I'm adding the glass effect to the IPs and let it dry. I'll post pics of the completed cockpits tonight...
