Thanks for the comments everyone. Joe - yours s a lot more detailed than mine. Mine is really an illustration of a colour scheme on a neat model, not much more than that.

Greg - I found that by thinning the paint some more, and reducing the flow, pre-shading became easy.  It's very forgiving.

Here's the latest, mid panel line wash. Need to tidy it up and ge a flat coat down, add the pitot and some guns, the wheels and bay doors.

I've got to say the scheme weirds me out a bit, it doesn't look like a 190 should ....

Cheers

Tony

I must say Clemens, I too am highly anticipating pics of your cockpit extravaganza.

I think I managed to sort out my decal problem and I'm finishing the last 2 IPs today, so I should be able to finally post some pics of all the completed cockpits tomorrow...

Well, I hope so. I've been waiting for pics........  Wink

Glad you've sorted out the decal trouble.

Lawdog- Great paint job . Gotta love those Gunze RLM colors. The greens look spot on. I'm with Greg. They aren't discontinued they just aren't available in the states, so without LuckyModel, I'd be screwed

.  I just checked Lucky Model's site.  Can I assume that their "Mr. Color" acrylic paint is the same as the Aqueous line?  I could swear my Aqueous bottles looked different than these.

Joe

Yes, LuckyModel calls them Acrylic. Gunze has changed the look of their aqueous bottles from time to time, so they can look different. As a side note Lawdog- you can use Mr. color lacquer thinner with the Aqueous as well, just like you do with your Tamiya paints-it gives the same effect: silk smooth and super thin, translucent coats.

Joe Rix- Mr. Color solvent laquers are available at Sprue Brothers. They carry the entire line and is usually well stocked.

Doug- Again, great work on that D-9. You did great with the old Dragon plastic!

Tony-great shading. the Blue/gray looks good.

Doug, thanks for the kind words, Buddy! You started it, and the rest of the guys just hooked me more. Hopelessly. :) Same back at ya, btw.

Tony, was all ready to comment on how nice and clean your cockpit looks, then noticed Joe's comment on the 1/72nd (I managed to miss it, even with all the visual clues). Amazes me as well. I'm clueless how to control pre-shading on 1/48th, so I'm obviously impressed with yours. Looking great!

Mustang Joe, thanks for adding me back in, amigo. I woulda stuck around anyway due to the great folks, but it'll be more fun for me this way. Plus I get to bother Clemens endlessly, lucky him. :)

Joe Rix, thanks mate! I'm the one who's excited about staying. :) And thanks for the link to the Gunze article, interesting reading.

Nathan, MN eh? We're almost neighbors then (I'm in  IN). Thanks for the additional info on LuckyModels. I did some looking, even with shipping costs, things can end up less expensive. Must try when I'm looking for something like Aqueous, and I'll have to add a kit to the order. :)

And thanks for the scheme suggestion. Being my first Eduard kit, I am overwhelmed (positively) by the full color scheme illustrations and will be sticking to one of them cuz I think it will be a good aid for me at this poin, but I just looked and whichever I choose, it will be quite similar to #43!

I think somebody told me that Gunze's "H-" designation is Aqueous, and "C-" is regular Mr Color? And I finally found the Gunze (mrhobby.com) site, and I see no indication of discontinuation of Aqueous from the mfg (translated, sorta, courtesy of Google)

Doug, just can't come up with anything but to repeat the Wow's already stated. Brilliant work, mate.

Good info Joe, Thanks for posting. I've never had much luck with the Mr Color paints and as you said, WOW, the smell is indeed a factor in choosing paints, for me any way.

Hey Gents, Given the discussion on Aqueous Gunze-Sangyo I found this interesting little article:

www.ipmsmemphis.com/.../%20Mr.ColorPaints.pdf

What I found interesting is that he first thinned the Mr Color solvent based with Iso-Alcohol. I guess I would never had considered that. Again, I'm using the solvent based Mr. Color cut with Mr. Leveling Thinner and it just sprays beautifully at a variety of PSI's. I have not encountered the spider webbing effect and I am sure that must be due the use of the Leveling Thinner as it contains the retarder. But, he does note a very important aspect of Mr. Color and that is the odor. It is indeed very strong and in order to keep from inundating the whole house with the odor I have to use ny spray booth with clean filters. I should also note that solvent based Mr. Color does not seem to be any easier to find in the states as the Aqueous. I order my Mr. Color from HobbyWave and Red Frog Hobbies. Unfortunately neither one of them carry the Aqueous line.

Doug: Man, she does look great indeed!

Tony: Nice work! I'm amzaed how fast you built that 190!

Gunze's aqueous line is definitely not discontinued. They are available here in Austria at least...

taxtp: Your progress looks great. I have to chuckle to myself as you have done in a few days what has taken me months on the same kit. Yeah, I added a good bit of AM stuff, still it is good to see you moving along briskly.

Doug: That is indeed some choice weathering you have pulled off on this one. NICE!!!!

I was able to get the canopy and landing gear finished up...

All in all I'm cautiously pleased, I say that cuz ya never know... But so far so good, With any luck and a quiet day, I may be finished by tonight. Have a great day my friends!

Preshading, then paint using Humbrol 79. It's been a while since I sprayed enamels, but it came out OK.

Cheers

Thanks everyone.  Doug, phemnomenal work.  That camo looks great.  Tony, I look forward to seeing the French Scheme.  Greg and Nathan....I heard somehere that Gunze discontinued the Aqueous line.  I hope I was misinformed.  I have really come to like their paint eventhough they don't dry quite as fast as Tamiya.  I just checked Lucky Model's site.  Can I assume that their "Mr. Color" acrylic paint is the same as the Aqueous line?  I could swear my Aqueous bottles looked different than these.

Nice cockpit Tony!

Greg, I'm in the States in MN. Shipping from Lucky is pretty good actually. Takes about 10-14 days. No biggie, worth the wait. Gunze aqeaous bottles are under 3 bucks still I think. Can't get much better that that.- Oh and I'll make a suggestion for a scheme:

Top airplane- White 11 Walter Wagner.

More work on my French 190.

I've got the cockpit done, and the main assembly complete. I added Extratech P/E harnesses to the cockpit, and used the kit decals for the panels. Now for the seams. I dunno where I got the info on it being overall light blue, in fact, the decal instructions give to schemes, one with overall dark green and the other is grey. This one wil be grey, but I am sorely tempted to do both. The color match is easy, Humbrol 79.

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Guys... Man... what can I say but THANKS! I'm pretty happy with the way this is coming out... and compliments from folks(each for your own special skills that I admire) I share modeling experiances with... I'm honored,

GREGS HOOKED!!! LOL, sorry, but I'm glad your doing another build with us! You did such a good job on the first I cant wait to see what you do with an Eduards kit. Your a good guy and I'm glad your staying here! Lots of fun to build with...

Joe R, Glad you tried and liked the technique... It takes some practice, and you'll see that at first it may look as if its not working, but the secret is knowing how far to go. Too much and it could REALLY fade your finish, looking forward to seeing the results, Oh... and the addition of a few drops of the light grey is a good way to not only speed up the look but to even out the look.

should be near compleation before weeks end, and being my wife is out of town at the present, I will have lots of quality bench time! Thanks again my friends!

Doug

PS... Just in case I cant get to the site for some unknown reason, I want to wish all of my fellow modelers and builders here a wonderful Thanks Giving Day!

Hey, Joe: Please put me down with the same kit + barrels as Greg. We'll build that kit "together". I won't start that soon though...

Doug: Now that's what I call an awesome looking 190! Great work, mate!

Everyone: I applied most of the decals today. There are basically only 2 IPs left. There is a problem with them however: The decals  for the IPs in the Eduard weekend kits have the base color of the panel printed a s well, which would make the IP look really compared to what it looks like now with the wash and drybrushing. Any tips on how to solve that problem?

Nathan, just checked LuckyModel. How are the shipping rates from Hong Kong? Also, are you in US or somewhere else?

Mustang Joe, I'd like to toss my hat in the ring again, please. Will be my first Eduard kit. The Fw 190A8/R2 Profipack, with Master gun barrels. Not sure which scheme yet.

Thanks, mate!

Lawdog- Great paint job. Gotta love those Gunze RLM colors. The greens look spot on. I'm with Greg. They aren't discontinued they just aren't available in the states, so without LuckyModel, I'd be screwed.

Doug- Awesome camo colors! This might be my fav. Dora of yours so far. Great fading and very realistic weathering you got going on.

Tony- Great small scale kit. Looking forward to the French scheme.

Doug, The weathering looks great. Fine work. Last night I did a little test work on your weathering method on a test model i painted in a replica scheme as my model. Simply misted with some 70% alcohol tainted with some Tamiya light gray. I was pleased with the effect.

Lawdog Joe, I gotta tell you, that exterior work is crazy-good. Again, truly inspirational and also again, thanks for keeping up with the progress pics, my friend. Brilliant work on those condensation streaks, amongst other things.

BTW, as I understand it, the Gunze Aqueous line has not been discontinued, rather they are unable to sell it in the US due to the new labeling requirements. My guess is they cannot fit the required stuff on the container. I found it online a couple months ago, Hannants or some such place that would, at that time, ship to the US.

I bought a square jar of regular Testors enamel recently. All four side garbled up with stuff, have yet to find the color on it somewhere. Pitiful.

taxtp, there's a good start! Hope you enjoy the Hasegawa kit!

Doug, your bird is looking exceptional, just as expected. Thanks so much for the progress pics!
