Hooray for Hollywood 2014 GB extended til July 4th

It's continuing mission...

Captain's Build Log, Stardate 1305.22.  Work has begun on the ship.  Spacedock is busy with fitting, grinding, polishing and welding.  Like some mad beehive, it's difficult to tell what is being done and by whom.  You turn away for a moment, and when you look back, it's a completely different hull.  Changes are being done even before plans are ready.  Our Chief Engineer is changing his mind even as parts are being delivered.  I wonder just what the final product will look like.

The new bridge is being test fitted, and it seems to be okay.  It will take some filler to seal the gap, but that's expected.

Meanwhile, I've been filing away at the grid lines on the top of the saucer (which are not supposed to be there).  A metal file makes short work of these.  It will have to be sanded afterward, and I expect given a good coating of Mr. Surfacer.  But that's in the future.  There will also be a change to the detail behind the bridge (I'm not sure what it's called at this moment) to bring it more into its correct shape.

  Luckily, I have something to go by:   

1/350 vs. 1/650.

Pyrman:  I've heard that the Encore Pfalz is a re-release of a Roden offering.  I have a few more of Roden's Albatros aircraft; don't know if they suffer from the same weaknesses.  I haven't built any yet.

I have a couple of Dr-I's from Eduard, which seem a lot better.  I don't know if Eduard has made a 1/72 Pfalz.

But it appears your engineers are bringing her back into shape.  Things are looking good at this point.

And it does seem that no matter how bad the model is that one is working on, someone somewhere is always working on something worse.

I have to agree CMK. Someone somewhere is alwatys working on something worse. But I'll add "No matter how bad we think we are doing on (not just our model builds) Someone some where is always doing worse or having more problems than us.".

I worked on the half track tracks last night, but had to quit early because we had some storms around and my lights were flickering. I didn't want to chance having all these tiny parts out and have the lights go out.

I'll be back on it tonight though and I'll post pics of the tracks I have done then.

Here's a small update to the Batmobile. I've completeded most of the construction of the body. However, there is a lot of cleanup required.

Ken:  You have my sympathy if those are individual links you have to glue together!  Talk about time consuming!  

Just to let you know, I'll be out of town next week so no build log updates from me for awhile.  Be back after June 3rd.   I will have my laptop with me, so I'll keep up with everyone's progress.

Thanks Gary. I'll accept your sympathy. I need all the help I can get with those individual (they are) track links. They're 56 links for each side. Only 40 more on each side. LOL

 Oh well. I'll just do them a little bit at a time. But they don't go together very hard. They kind of snap together and you can glue them. I've thought about doing some tanks. Maybe I should rethink that. LOL

Gary - Are you going on vacation? Thats always better than business trip.

Tony - The Batmobile is looking good. Can't wait to see it finished.

The tracks for the half track aren't too bad of a job. They are going together fairly easy. but they are still time consuming. I have two strings of 25 tracks together now. I'm going to make it in strings of 25 until there all done then I'll put them together. The motor and tranny are just about finished as well. Pics later.

How is everyone else coming along with thier productions?

Tracks are finished until I get the wheels and frame etc etc together.

Here's a progress report on the Batmobile. I think the photos say it all. I liked it once I primed it white, thought it looked sharp. I like it even better in black. The body took a heap of cleanup.

I/We as in the prisoners and I have the half track frame together. Pics will be posted tomorrow. They still have to finish building their barracks, The walls and roof arre up. Franko was belly aching tonight about not having a real roof over their heads. I told them "They weren't ready to occupy their huts.And I'll let them know when I think they're ready.

PS, Sorry for the delay on getting you're Bat Mobile posted on the front page. Things have pretty hectic around here latley. Hope it get back to normal soon. I haven't done much on the Halftrack latley either.

I've been cleaning up all the parts from all the flash on the "Blue Max" Pfalz, so nothing much to show--except that both interplane struts cracked while I was sanding them.  Actually, one of them broke completely in half.  They were the only ones that did, and they broke in just about the same place on each one.  The landing gear struts and cabane struts turned out fine.

I fixed them up by gluing the parts back together with Testors tube glue, then soaked the joint with MicroWeld.  I waited about four days, then gently sanded them smooth.  I haven't taken a photo of the repaired struts, but here is the glue-saturated fix--although it's hard to see.

Next issue was that the coaming around the cockpit was incompletely molded, so I stretched some sprue and glued it in with both Testors and MicroWeld.  When it's cured, I'll blend it in.

I have progressed far enough to start some painting, but haven't taken any photos yet.

They look good CMK. Once you get them sanded and painted, I don't think anyone will notice it.

I always hate breaking pieces like that, They never look right and they are weak link so to speak.

 How strong will your fix job be?

LOL Yep

I got the cockpit coaming sanded in so the gap is gone.  Still looks like a little rough area needs to be smoothed away.

Then I painted the interior with MM "Wood" color and ran a darker brown wash inside to emphasize the interior ribbing.  It probably won't show much, though, once the cowling is installed.

Although I test-fitted and filed and sanded before I attached the lower wing, there still remained a step-down from the wing to the fuselage.  I will try to reduce this with sanding, so everything blends in smoothly.  The photo shows the gaps filled with gap-filling superglue.

On the side, I've been working on the engine and the cockpit.  Will post photos when they are presentable.  Thanks for looking.
