I used a plastic cap nut. I just cut the dome part off from the threaded hex half.
Nice idea, its really worked. Looking forward to seeing the paint on it.

Sorry guys, haven't been as active on the forum of late as I normally am. So I guess I better bump this up and see how you guys are doing.
I have a couple more builds to do before I can get started, but I'm going to put this here.
On my bench: Academy 1/35 UH-60L Black Hawk
Thanks Bob, ye, it certainly does belong in here.
Not much of an update but here's where I'm at with the falcon. I have a question for the group. I'm trying to get the base color of the Death Star tiles just right. Do you think they're the right shade of grey? Too blue? Too white?
Thanks! J
Thanks!
J
I think, Senormod that you have a great contrast between the DS and the Falcon. Who can definitively say 'what colour is the DS??'. That's like saying 'what colour is a planet?'. There's probably so many colours of grey in there that it all blends into one 'grey' colour. IMO, if you have a nice mix of high/low lights and shaded areas, you got it.

I'll second Rob there. And who is to say what the right colours were. I read so much about studio models being one colour, the on screen model being something else. I really like the colour you have and it contrasts nicely against the Falcon.
Thanks guys. I haven't done any weathering at all yet to the tiles. So that will had more variation to the grays. Thanks for your input!
WOW, didn't realise it had been that long since any posts. Thought I better bump this up. I hope to be starting on my first build soon.
Well, no promises, but i hope to finish my Sci-fi GB build this weekend, then I can start on Chewie and C3PO. Looking forward to adding to this GB.

Thanks Nuc, nice to see I ain't alone here.
My poor, neglected X-Wing! Sorry for dropping off, the problem at this stage of the build is that there are a metric ton(ne) of decals, and it's frankly been pretty tough for me to get motivated to sit down and do them. I did make quite a bit of progress tonight though. I just have to finish decaling and do a wash to bring out the panel lines.

Come on Raven, as good as that is looking you know you want to power through those decals. Bet it goes quicker than you think. Dirty it up a little and you are done. How is the Bandai kit?
That looks nice Steve. As Nuc said, power through and get a little wash on.
I think the worst of the decaling is over now. Nuc, I loved building the kit. I was planning to buy the Tie Fighter as well, but I came across one of the new Revell kits at the LHS, so I might go with that instead.
Artoo wanted his picture taken before I put him inside the X-Wing; who am I to say no? (Those are all decals, btw, except the silver dome)
Steve, I like the way your X-Wing is looking, and R2 looks pretty good as well. I'm glad there are decals for him, I'd hate to have to paint those decals in this scale
Now THAT is a cool R2!!
Thanks. Not great but good enough, that's about the smallest I can go, which is why I don't normally build in 1/72.
Optivisors are my friend! R2-D2 is really cool, the FM kit has it also but I don't recall if they have decals for the body or not.
Nice work on R2 Steve.
NucMedTech Optivisors are my friend! R2-D2 is really cool, the FM kit has it also but I don't recall if they have decals for the body or not.
I was having a sort through my kits at the weekend and decided to check the FM X-Wing. Indeed it does have decals for R2 and it also include an R5 droid with decals for that as well. Boy am I relieved at that.
I managed to make a start on the bomber on Sunday. This is the kit and part layout.
I first started on the main body, there are not that many parts for the outside and so I was all done by Monday night.
The fit isn't perfect so it still needs some filling and clean up.
The cockpit parts had quite a bit of flash to remove, but here they are ready for priming.
I got them primed last night and painted tonight. Tomorrow I can start on the detailed painting.
Really cool Bish! Looks like a nicely detailed kit. I wish there was a kit of that in styrene, but I haven't seen one
Thanks Bob, ye, it has some nice detail, but it looks just like a short run kit. Ye, I would not have minded one of those either. There are only two other kits I know of, one only includes the body, you need to get the wings from the old AMT Darth Vader TIE. I think that's resin and last one I saw was over $100. There is also a 48th scale resin kit that's over $200, but no injection. I have used resin AM sets before, but until this year never a complete resin kit. Now this is the third in succession.
Gotta love a sexy TIE Bomber!! Right on, Bish!
Ain't ur just, thanks Rob.
Great looking builds so far, sorry I've been absent of late, my naboo fighter came in, man that thing is small. I have a couple projects in front of it but it's on the list to be done for sure!
-Josiah
No worries Josiah, look forward to seeing that. Was it easy to get hold of.
Decaling's finally done with a bit of paint on the engines. Just needs a wash and she'll be ready to take on the Death Star.
