Steve: Thanks! Actually if you don't mind waiting I think I'll see about toning down the lips and maybe fixing a few other issues I see in the photos that I didn't see in the figure in front of me and then retake the photos.

Steve & Hunter: Thanks again! I'll check out ImageShack. Heck, I'm paying more than thirty-eight bucks a month for my ISP.

Gamera -

Taking Steve's advice to join Imageshack was great advice to follow....very easy and user friendly. I started out with PhotoBucket and had nothing but trouble. It cost $38.00 for a 1 year subscription.....Well worth it.

By the way Gamera, take a look at Imageshack. That's the service PJ, Hunter and I use. You have to pay for an account, but we have had very few issues and none since they fixed their site a few months back, in fact since they fixed their site and required a payed account to use it the way we do, the customer service has been exemplary.

Gam,

Yeah the lips are a little too red but it is WAAAY better than I could do. Fantastic job Bow Down. I figure Bones just kissed Joan Collins or something. I’ll get you up on the wall. Which picture did you want?

Well, I'm done with 'Bones' though there are a few things I might go back and change like maybe I should tone down his lips???

Edit: Ok, I went back and deleted my former rant about PhotoBucket. It seems to be sorta working now but wants to crash on editing photosI had to laugh about them giving Bones a transporter pad base along with the other figures considering how much he hated the thing. So for a little fun here Scotty has 'lubed' the good doctor up to get him on the pad...

Your bridge is looking great Beans! I'm sorry I didn't post about the Paragrafix set earlier.

I need one more weekend.

Here's where I stand...

Here's what's left...

I'll finish off the last pannels, do a few touch-ups, assemble the railings and stairs, close the gaps between the consoles then I'll put a fork in it.

Your bridge is looking very nice so far! Paragrafix makes a nice PE/Decal set for this kit. Your too far along now, but if you decide to do another.

I have 2 classic kits and one rerelease of the bridge and the Paragrafix set. I'll get around to building it one day.

Holy crap mach71! That Paragrafix site is a goldmine!

I found the PE for the bridge: http://www.paragrafix.biz/product_detail.asp?MainCat=Photoetch&SubCat=blank&PPartNum=PGX184

Had I known, I would've souvenired a set. Oh well.

I'm gonna have to sniff around that site a bit. Thanks for sharing.

This is why I frequent this site; to meet and hang out with cool folks and share resources.

I know what you mean Beans, you'd expect the consoles to at least fit together without a gap. Sad

Thanks guys. It's all good.

I don't want to sound like I'm whining and complaining. I knew what I was getting myself into. Minor set backs and compensating for poor production goes with the territory with these older kits.

It's a nostelgic thing I need to do. I know I'll dig'em when they're displayed on the shelf.

When it's all said and done I'd like to know that I put my effort forward regardless of trying to build a model that doesn't want to be built.

Overall, the kit's been fun. I just want to throw a "heads up" for anyone that wants build this kit.

Looks pretty cool to me Beans! Guess the fit issues aren't too surprising in a forty year old kit, still I understand your frustration. I've got three of the older versions in my stash and am hoping to do something with them someday. There's a really nice aftermarket set, it has translucent parts for the screens so you can light them and I think a few other items like the helm station's viewer. I've seen it on Ebay, I need to pick one up before it goes out of production.

Beans,

That looks pretty cool despite issues. That's going to be great when done.

Oy vey!

This model is a diva and needs a lot of attention.

If anyone picks up this kit be aware of the following;
  • Don’t trust the color call-outs.
  • The model is a general representation of the set as seen on television. Anything resembling accuracy is purely an accident.
  • The decals included in my kit are thick and are inconsistently cut – they don’t always match up to the location they’re assigned to be applied. Set aside a lot of time to trim the decals before applying (measure twice, cut once).
  • A lot of parts don’t fit well (i.e. the consoles won’t align and don’t fit together well).

Stay alert and take your time and plan ahead.

...

I was really hoping to bring this model over the finish line this weekend. I spent a lot of time planning, masking, painting and dry fitting and I still run into snags.

This is what it looks like now...

MIND THE GAP!

Notice the gap between the engineering and enviromental consoles. I'll try to reset the consoles and see if I can convince them to be a little closer - ideally no gaps.

I finished painting the remaining consoles and they're ready to recieve the decals.

Here's an example of a decal that was too large for the area where it was intended...

There is an alternate decal for this pannel but I really wanted to use the one I applied. I'm hoping to repair the decal seeing that the chip is minor.

Notice the monitor decals on the engineering console and then the enviromental console.

Creative trimming this weekend.

BTW - that's not over-spray on the lower pannels, it's shadows.

Recessed main screen...

Warts 'n all...

Stay tuned...

Sounds cool Beans. Same here, I was hoping to get a little more done with Bones but ended up watching the nephews play in the snow... Embarrassed

It's good for me that this group build goes until March 31 2016.

The end is near...

I should have more pictures up soon.

Update:

Figures are done. Thanks for the painting tip Gamera! mixing the tan with the yellow toned down the command shirts.

I'm planning on finishing this week.

Looks good to me Beans! I'd suggest maybe mixing in some tan with the yellow for command gold assuming you haven't already done it?

My bridge project update:

I painted the pannels as per the diections. I'm not happy with the color so I'm going to re-paint them primer grey this weekend.

The bridge upper deck deserves another coat to even out the color.

I'm happy with the turquoise shirts for Spock and McCoy.

I first tried a honey color for Kirk, Sulu and Chekov. It didn’t work out the way I wanted so I opted for a straight up yellow and called it a day. Now they look like bumble bees. Oy!

I'm not sure if I like the crimson on Uhura...

Happy with the chairs.

That's it for now. I'll have more after this weekend.

Hey Beans, I think it's US Navy blue 5-N as best I can make out, there's paint splattered all over the bottle. Embarrassed

What color did you use for the shirt?

The unfilmed sequel to 'Spock's Brain'- 'McCoy's Head'... Stick out tongue

Thanks guys! I forgot I still need to finish his medical bag that fits to the strap there. Not sure how to do it since it looks in the soft plastic like the one in the series or should I go ahead and paint it anyway. I dunno, I'm leaning to painting just because I learned as a kid you paint EVERYTHING.
