I did get some work done on Bones chest and arms, figured they'd just plug right in but the fit was kinda sloppy so I ended up puttying and sanding the shoulders. He's close to done but as usual I've been diverted off into a bunch of other stuff.

Yes it has. I stare at my BOP whenever I sit down to continue setting up my bench (after unpacking and organizing boxes in the garage). I am combining 2 locations from my old home and scattered tools from the move. I can't seem to find my Optivisior!! That's going to be tough. I will be getting back to the BOP here soon.

It's been a month since a post. It's summer so most people are probably doing summer things.

This is just to bring the thread back to the to incase anyone has an update.

Thanks for the nudge mach71.

I've had an unbelievably busy summer but I haven't forgotten my commitment. I'll post some pics soon.

OK guys, I'm back home from vacation and back on the forum as usual. My wife and I are moving at the end of July, so I have packed up all the stash (thank goodness it still relatively small) and builds until the first part of Aug.

Nice thing is, I'll actually have my workbench back. I have been working on a TV tray for 3 years. At least I've learned space management, but that's not going to matter. once I start spreading out it will be a mess again.

I will continue the BoP in Aug.

well this is about as far as I'm going to get before my vacation. I will be back on the 11th. All that's left is to put on the decals and do some weathering.

Thanks Mach71, that does make sense!

Never been a fan of Trekkie or Trekker or anything like that- used to call myself simply a Star Trek fan, kinda a semi-fan now.

Why on Earth did people make up a separate name to stick on us fans here? A Star Wars fan isn't called a Warie, a Soprano's fan isn't a Sopranoie, a Breaking Bad fan isn't a Breakie, so why do we get stuck with a stupid name??? Trek fan is good enough as far as I'm concerned.

I've never liked Trekkie either. It always sounds kind of condescending.

Here is what I understand from Trek lore, and reading tons of trek books. (as I would guess most here have done)

The Romulan BOP was capable of faster than light  travel.  As was said this was a mid 1st season

episode and things were still being fleshed out.

It seems the "impulse" power vice "warp" power" referred to the ships power not the speed. The Enterprise used a matter/antimatter reaction to develop the power to generate the warp field so it could go at "warp" speed. Faster than light. The Romulan used atomic fusion power so it's warp field was much less powerful, thus  a slower "warp" speed. And the cloaking device used so much power that they could not go to warp speed, faster than light, while cloaked.

While the Enterprise could go warp 6 (8 under emergency conditions) I get the impression the BOP

could only go less than warp 5. Probably much less. ( based on the NX-01 being a "warp 5" ship, it used matter/antimatter).

The Phoenix was the 1st Terran warp ship and It had no matter/antimatter in it.

Thats always what I thought/rationalized. It works for me anyway.

True! Plus the Romulans had warp capacity in 'Enterprise' I think?

I totally agree. It would have taken years to get from one outpost to another. This was the 14th episode in the first season, the creators didn't even have a shuttle craft until season 2. If the episode were to be written in season 2 or later, the BoP would have been warp powered, or at least the whole sub-light thing would have been explained in more detail.

I'm going with the warp engine thing.

I never quite got the whole idea of the BoP being impulse only myself. I mean the nacelles on the wings look just like the Enterprise's warp engines and if the Romulans didn't have warp their empire would be tiny.

The only thing I've seen to back this up is Scotty's comment on the BoP power being 'simple impulse'. Personally my interpretation is the cloak pulled so much power that with it up it sucked all the power from the warp engines leaving them only able to move under impulse. That is they'd have to drop the cloak to go back to warp. And with the Enterprise sticking to them like a remora to a shark they never got the chance.

Mach,

Ya know, I was thinking about masking, or placing a drop of film in the windows, but I think the depth will help. If a little gets on, the light will still shine through.

I think a little weathering will look sharp.

Fast work! She looks nice.

Silly question, when you prime/paint will you mask the windows or will the depth of the hull

keep them clear of paint?

And yes, It is a putty pig!

I like the idea of weathering, I've never considered it before but it sounds like a good idea.

Yeah. The "blueprints" of the ship show landing pads, however, that is the version with warp engines. It seems all the Star Trek ships were able to fly and swim after watching "The Edge of Darkness"

Oh, you're making great progress!

Never really thought about it but the BoP does have those wings and sort of lifting body type of hull so I guess she could be atmospheric, interesting idea!

I put everything together this weekend, filled and painted. It looks like I have some more filling to do. Now I'm assuming the BOP is an atmospheric craft, so I am going to weather it accordingly.

Before I close it up for good I wanted to show the wax paper and how it is defusing the light.

I guess the blue LED's in the hull do make an interesting hue. I didn't think they would make a difference.
Now to button it up and do some filling.

Looks pretty cool to me!

Not sure I'd want to go though all the work to make the kit totally correct either.

I forgot to mention that I still need to block off the sensor holes, so not all of the holes will be lit.
