Very nice, Stephan! Like the subtle weathering (and your companion/guard). Yes

Thanks re: Speeder. These (addictive) Bandai kits can't be beat. I'm gonna be spoiled when I finally go back to "regular" aircraft kits and curse when something doesn't fit. With Bandai stuff, you can concentrate on the finishes.

PB, That speeder is looking great! Man, I must say I really enjoy these Bandai kits.

I am still plugging along on the AT-ST. Took a grey model and primed it with black paint and then painted it all gray. See it is a different color. Small nuances aside I am getting to the weathering stage also. Gloss coated it with Valspar clear gloss and the did a sludge wash and wiped it off. So this is where I am at.

The Legs.

The Body.

The Head.

I feel things may be picking up as I have had a dark presence watching me as i work.

I do not want to disappoint her!

That is looking very nice PB. Everything has just come together so well, the chipping and painting is really setting this off. Great work.

Hello:

Making a little more progress: bulk of the painting (I painted the red warning stripes on the rear gun housings--I'm a masking masochist?) and decaling is done. Next I'll begin weathering detail in earnest (including a panel wash and a bit of chipping around fuselage), then guess I'll have to quit procrastinating and tackle the canopy and gun barrels. :-)

Porkbits

From what I've read, end of this month. Propeller

Cheers.

As i understand it, the hairspray only works with acrylic over it. My guess is that what ever you would use to remove the enamel paint would also remove the hairspray.

Yeah, I've tried the salt chipping but agree that hairspray method offers much, much finer control.

I've been using cheap hairspray here, I don't think it makes much difference. You can spray it or decant it and airbrush it on if you have the pump bottle or just want more control.

Not sure how it works with enamels, never used it with them. The salt chipping works well but I like the hairspray better since I can control it better depending on how I reverse dry-brush it removing the paint. Plus it takes the paint off raised areas first where it would chip more. The salt is more random and at least to me less controlable.

Thanks, Bish! Big Smile

FYI, Bob, I used a can of Consort hair spray that my dad left at my house lol. Seems to work really well.

And just in case you guys can't get enough Bandai AT-AT pics, here's a bunch more:

Porkbits

Thanks, G and B!

Bish, I used Ye Olde Hairspray Method. You paint the base coat, then spray on a couple of coats of hairspray. Let dry for a few minutes, then apply the top coat (which in this case was the stripes, and using acrylics apparently works best). After the top coat is dry, you brush on some water and let it set for a few minutes (this loosens up the paint). Then I used a detail brush and toothpick to pick out the chips. Works pretty well.

I did wounder if you had used hairspray. I have never seen such fine chipping achieved like that with it. Great work.

That might be my problem, I pretty much just use enamels as they're easier for me to get a hold of. Plus I always seem to have issues spraying acrylics. Another issue might be that I sprayed the hairspray from a pump bottle instead of a can. I read after the fact that it's better from a can. If I don't get a chance to pick up any acrylics when I get around to the X-Wing I might try the salt chipping method instead. First I need to finish this Intruder...

Thanks, Bob...do it! What helped me was practicing on some scrap plastic with a couple of different paint types (Tamiya acrylics seem to work well).

That looks awesome PB! Last time I did the hairspray technique it didn't come out exactly how I wanted but I'm going to try and give it another go on the X-Wing I'm going to work on next.

Nice job on the paint work PB. I like the chipping effect on those darker panels. How did you get that look.

Hey, guys:

After a few crazy weeks, FINALLY squeezed in some time at the bench today. Yay! Painted and weathered some of the markings. After these are done, I'll do a bit more assembly, seal it all with Future, then do the final weathering.

In the meantime, waiting for the Bandai AT-AT to be released (end of April) and still pondering how I'm going to tackle the Zvezda SD. Propeller

Thanks for looking, and hope everyone is well.

Thanks guys! Yeah I figured i wasted enough time on that and decided to close it up. It was good practice though. I went ahead and put the subassemblies together just to see how it would look and stand. Decided to put my old AMT build next to it for a little comparison.

Not to bad for what, a 30 year old kit? The Bandai is a little larger so definenitly different scales. The Bandai head seems to be larger and more narrow. I think you could use them together in a dio if you wanted to. Just make it a mark I and Mark II versions.

So, hopefully this weekend I can primer and start painting. I can't wait for my issue of FSM to get here.

Or you could build the diorama in a forced perspective type situation, putting the smaller one behind the larger one, forcing g the perspective to add to the effect of three dimensions.   They both look cool!

That is neat seeing them together, I assume the Bandai kit is the more accurate though the AMT looks pretty good as well.

God to see it closed up there. I am sure i read years ago that the AMT kit was 48th, i had considered convering some figures into Stormtroopers. Well, so glad i haven't built it yet, i would say that 1/50 somthing, maybe 1/55 scale. I see the ''toes'' are smaller on the bandai.

They would make a nice forced perspective.

That looks great Stephen! The more I model the more I realize I'm trying to give the impression of something as opposed to how it "actually" looked, especially when what you can see is limited.

Just got the May issue of the mag today, nice build of that AT-ST in there. I like the idea of the base to help get the legs aligned right for the head.
