You need to get yourself a food dehydrator!  I picked one up from our shop meth head (not about to use it for actual food...).  It is what made it possible for me to complete my build!

You know the time period for building a kit is easy.  It's this work thing that I have to that screws up my bench time

The first Corsair is not salvageable.  I have not had good luck with MM Glossy Dark Sea Blue and this build continued the trend.  Still not thoroughly dry some three hours later.  The MMP USN/USMC Sea Blue works great, but will need a gloss coat over it.  I'm calling this build early because there is simply not enough time to finish them before I have to be at work at 0800.  The remaining Corsair has her canopy masked and is ready for paint.  The Mustang needs its canopy masked and then it will be ready for paint.  The remaining Corsair and Mustang should be ready by the end of the week hopefully.

Paint job on Corsair 1 is fubar.  Will have to wait for it to completely dry before attempting to fix.  May be several days to a week before that happens.  I remembered I had some Mission Models USN/USMC Sea Blue, so I'm giving that a shot.  There were some cowling pieces that hadn't been painted yet so I'm trying the MMP on them.  Hopefully I'll know something in the next 15-20 minutes.  Since all three planes were to be the same color, if the MMP doesn't work, I'm done.

Razor,

Got your pic updated on the front page.  Congratulations on getting her over the line.

TJ,

Got your build updated on the front page.  I think you  may have chosen wisely.

Steve,

I understand.  Sometimes you get a kit that just ain't worth the frustration.  Cool pick on the Lee.  You should have time to source some decals.  How are the rubber band tracks?

As for me, Jesse Brown's Corsair is in the paint shop.  The real question is will the paint be dry in time for me to decal it before going to bed.  I'm using Testors Gloss Dark Sea Blue.  Shot it an hour ago, time for a dryness check.  Depending on the drying time, I may be either beating the throw out at first for a single or hitting into a triple play rather than hitting a triple.  Time will tell.

Buddy, theres a lot more wrong with it than jus the tracks. The road wheels don't line up with the drive sprokets or return sprockets. I really want one for my collection so Ill just get another at some point.

Cathy chose this one. Out of all my armor she picked the Lee LOL. She said it looks cute. She even passed the Jagdpanther and Tiger.

This kit is so old it's still in Japanese. Not sure how good the decals are.

I do have some time off between Christmas and New Years so unless I get some time off before then I'll start then.

Steve

......

Justinryan215, the F4 is looking great!  You getting this done in 48 hrs with that nice paint job makes me want to bust mine out of the stash!

Anyway, here's the pic for the front page.  I decided pic 2, but removed the timestamp and cropped it a bit.

Thanks for the kind words!  I really dont think this thing would have made it if it wasnt for having a non-foodgrade food dehydrator!  lol...I usually like to let my paint sit and dry for a week before moving on to the next step, but with this thing, you can accomplish the same thing in a few hours!

Anyhow, its a fun little kit, but I really want to add the venerable Tamiya 1/48th offering to my collection...forget this 1/72 scale stuff!  I have a headache and my eyes hurt from working on something so tiny!!!

I'm no armor afficianado, but you put up one hell of a nice offering to the group build gods!  it almost looks like a graphic for World of Tanks Blitz!

Getting caught up on all the builds:

Sorry I missed your completion Brandon!  Outstanding job on the Yak 1, congrats!

Wow Eagle90, that is one fine looking X-15!  I love the little pilot standing next to it in his classic silver flightsuit...really adds dimension to the build!

modelcrazy, sorry about the tracks on your Elephant, but the GB continues for a while, so join back in....love to see another of your builds!

dwsrazor, congrats on getting the Raiden done! Eagerly awaiting more pics!

Justinryan215, the F4 is looking great!  You getting this done in 48 hrs with that nice paint job makes me want to bust mine out of the stash!

The Mustang turned out nicely learmech64, you did a bang up job with the camo scheme (I almost thought it was a Spitfire when I first saw it)!  Congrats on your first weekend buid WITH a successful completion in  48 hrs!

Lewbud, the Corsairs are coming along nicely!  Did you mention there's a Mustang too?  Are you doing a triple weekend build?? Surprise

Anyway, here's the pic for the front page.  I decided pic 2, but removed the timestamp and cropped it a bit.

After sleeping waaaaayyy later than I like to, (7:30am), I was finally ready to apply decals by around 9-930.  For reference, I am usually up and at 'em aroud 5:30...

She is now nestled in the dehydrator for a few (have you noticed a trend here?) and weathering will soon begin...

Looking at this build, I am almost feeling like, while accurate, the light grey is too dark, and I should have used my homemade mix of "Insignia White"...oh whell...I'll save that for when I get my hands on the Tamiya 1/48 scale kit....

Eagle,

I like the third one so that's the one I will use.  As for the build, you're welcome, but you guys are the ones that make it happen.  So thank you for your participation.  For those that are still building, keep it up amigos!

Eagle,

Congratulations!  She looks great!  Which pic would you like for the front page?

Steve,

She's come too far, finish her!  I look forward to see what your bride comes up with next.

For the guys who have finished.  Please let me know which pic of your build you would like for the front page.  If you haven't finished, keep that in mind.

Got sidetracked by dinner and a movie (review is in the Ready Room).  Back to the table.

I'll leave that up to you sir!  You're choice.  Again...thanks for hosting such a wonderful and fun GB!  You rock!

Razor,

That's a good looking Jack!  Congratulations on getting her across the line!  Looking forward to more pics.

Ernest,

That tiny T-70M looks fantastic! Congratulations!  Which pic would you like for the front page?

learmech,

She looks good from here!  Congratulations on getting her done!  Which pic would you like for the front page?

As for me, when I went to bed last night I had one blob of plastic that almost looked like a Corsair, with the cockpit parts painted for the second Corsair and the Mustang.  The Revell Corsair is a good kit, it's design is a little overthought and complicated though.  Barring any unforseen accidents, they all should be ready for paint this afternoon.  It will be close, but I think all three will make it.

Calling this one done. This is my first weekend build. I normaly take 2-3 months to do a build. I started at 0700 on Friday the 27th and am posting these pics at 0240 on the 29th. Not my best build, but for less than 48 hours, Ill take it. I dont normaly build 1/72 scale but I needed to do something quick and easy. The decals didnt settle very well, they were to thick to conform well with some of the raised retails. Ill call it a good 2 footer. I had loads of fun doing this challenge. Disregard the time stamps on the photos, my camera wasnt setup correctly.

Stick a fork in it at call it done!  39 hours and one heckuva sore back later the MiniArt T-70M is pretty much complete.  I was contemplating adding some chipping and more weathering, but I need a looong break! Black Eye

Here's some pics of the completed model:

And, of course, my celebratory drink for another Weekend Madness completion!\ I counted 12 completed Weekend Madness builds and 3 Honorable Completions on my shelf so I'm proud to add #13!  Thanks for hosting another great GB Lewbud!Toast  I may do a second build this year, but if not, you can count me in next year again!  I've only missed one year since 2011 and I fully intend to keep it going!

Final update for day one!

I sprayed the black base, baked it in the dehydrator for a while and then started on the main paint.

Got the PRU Blue and light gray applied in the old black basing tecnique, and then kicked out my favorite part of aircraft builds...masking and spraying the canopy.

I then threw them both into the dehydrator for the evening, and tomorrow I will apply decals and weathering!

Good night all!

I did it!  I'm calling her finished at 1930 EST.  That was fun!!!!  Thanks so much for hosting the Great Weekend Madness GB!

Great little kit, fit was really good all over, went together very quickly, and best of all....THE DECALS WORKED GREAT!  LOL!  As many of you may know, I have a curse when it comes to decals.  LOL!  These went on very well and took the Micro Sol well too.  As you can see in the pics, I also did the pilot figure.  I'm not good at them at all, but this one actually looks pretty cool standing next to the X-15.  I'm thinking about doing a tarmac type surface on the board I have it on.  Might add a liitle more to it.

Justinryan215...thank you for the comments (thank you all for the kind comments).  I was thinking about doing all my X-planes myself.  Would look pretty cool on the shelf.  I did a couple of NASA birds recently and they look awesome on the shelf.  So I will probably be pulling all my X planes out of the stash now.

Well, here it is...like I said, great kit and a wonderful GB!!!

Ernest,

Really like the paint job on the T-70!

Steve,

Bummer about the Elefant.  Hope you finish it.  Looking forward to seeing your next build.

JustinRyan,

Nice start on the Wildcat!  I picked up this kit yesterday. Looking forward to watching it come together.

Eagle,

Really liking the X-15.

Razor,

The Jack is looking great!

A little over eight hours in and the wings are together.  The Tamiya wings are a simple three piece affair.  The Corsair wings are a little more fiddly.  Here's a pic of the pieces involved in building the Corsair wings.  Two pieces aren't in the picture because they are extremely tiny and I didn't want to lose them.  You get the parts to build either the machine gun equipped F4U-4 or the cannon F4U-4B.

The completed wing.

The gaps around the wing mounted intake scoops.

Putty should be dry by now.  Working on the cockpits now, will post pics later.  Should have three things that look like aircraft before hitting the rack tonight.
