Well, got the splinter scheme done.
A few touch ups are needed, the airbrush and I had a disagreement as to how much overspray is acceptable.

I lost.

I went for a soft edge on my camo, I feel that after weathering, it looks alot more pleasing to the eye, compared to most of the hard edges I see on 109's.

This is just my opinion, what do you guys think?

Well I said Id be doing an old matchbox kit but I just cant seem to win those ebay auctions, so I decided to do a Tamiya kubel. Its a pretty nice little kit , better than I remember it being so I guess they redid it.Then my cat decided to play with it and took off with one of the doors, so I had to buy another one. Any hoo heres some WIP shots , its been base coated and I had a go at some other bits then realised I didnt know what colour to paint the seats and rag top, so any advice on that would be greatfully received also the drivers gaiters dont seem right either ( I tend to treat the painting guides as suggestions and throw them away like the idiot I am)

Well, at 42, I certainly qualify. I usually do historical and military figures and I should have a couple ready for display by the time Jan. 1 rolls around. I even have a 1/32 Hasegawa spitfire that just needs a little weathering. Now, if I could remember to get myself a digital camera, I'd be ready.

How did I miss this!! I must be a part of this GB. Can anyone tell me when it ends? Are there any subject matter guidelines? I really like the GB badge. How about a slogan? "Youth is wasted on the young" springs to mind.

I've only got my fuselage to my Arii N1K1-J 'George' together. I've been trying to finish my Arii Ki-44 'Tojo' for the NMF (damag to that kit slowed me down).

A brother-in-law thats a dentist!
Man, thats scary.

Mind you, on the up-side, how cheap can yu get those dental picks etc!!!

My dentist is a lady, not to harsh on the eyes.

As for my 109, managed to lay down the first base colour, just as I planned this wekend, so I'm pretty happy.
Usually nothing goes to plan, and this week the plan is to do the splinter scheme, and have the mottling finished by Saturday night.
Then finish ass'y, and get stuck into weathering.

If all goes to plan, should be finished inside the fortnight!!!!

Well I finally made a start too. Something totally different an HO scale bulldozer and logging arch. Its a white metal kit and as is often the case with small white metal casts the 2 mould halves were off-centred requiring a lot of filing. The air intake and exhaust are moulded with the engine hood so I've cut them off as well making it easier to correct the mould irregularities. The track/drive wheels assembly is is very good with lots of good detail, even the tracks sag.

Photos will follow sometime

Nah Jules, JG 53 is 'Pik As', with the black spade insignia.

Those masks you made, are they a single use item, or have you got a more permanent solution, like transferring the pattern to some clear plastic or something.
3 Hours sems a long time to just throw it away afterwards.

As for my 109, going well this weekend.
Tonight I put the RLM 76 down, so when that dries (enamel), I can start on the main camo scheme.

Going to go with soft edges on the wings etc, the B&W pic I have of White 5 gives the impression this craft was painted over alot, so soft edges would suit.

Tweety i think it took about 3 hours or so to draw and cut the masks, i had to constantly check and recheck the pattern and eventually recut a couple but i think i've got a pretty accurate type B pattern happening here, more accurate than the Spit8 i built previous....
Speaking of the Spit 8 apparently the fueselage is a little short but Red Roo make AM fueselage halves for it if you want to go to the trouble.........

Yeah!! [yeah]!
Just finished priming all the bits for the G14!!!

Had to do something to take my mind off of the pain the dentist left me to enjoy for the weekendBlack Eye [B)]

So while the Microfiller is curing, I'll make up some soft edge masking for the wings etc, then I'll paint that hopefully by Sunday night.

Then some templates for the crosses.
Templates because the a/craft I'm doing, 'White 5', Gruppe 1/JG53, had half of the cross on both sides of the fuselage almost completely overpainted.
This was a scruffy looking plane, kinda appeals to me!

Then some ass'y, and then the mottleSigh [sigh]

Never been keen on the mottle.

Cheers Jules.....

Ok, I'll do a Spit for the Aussie GB.
Just gotta find alot of A/M bits for it.
I seem to have an aversion to building OOB.Sad [:(]

That spit of yours looks very nice Jules.
How long did it take you to make up the masks??

My G14 has stalled a bit lately, should be primed by the end of this weekend.

Sussed out the badge Jules.
I like it, now we just need confirmation from the others as to whether everyone will be in for it.

Gotta start searching for a kit to build.

(and NO, it will not be another Sabre, at least not for this GB!!!)

It's an Eduard set Jules, and no it wont go into a G6.
For the G6, which we both have, I plan to use Aires kit from Squadron, EA4120.

Alot more work, but adds to the realism.
I have 5 109s all up, and plan to place them all on the same display base when finished.
It'll be a while.........................

Only recently joined this site , I have rough idea what a group build is and I qualify for the age group(38) is it ok if I join this build at such a late stage? I mainly paint Warhammer 40k models but Im getting back into the Military modelling again ( last time was 24 years ago.......oh god Im feeling old now).If its ok Id like to build one of the old matchbox diorama kits, mainly cos it reminds me of my childhood but also cos I still think theyre cool ( ok its really cos I reckon I can do it without making an idiot of myself
