The box is open, the bags are cut and some test fitting of parts is taking place. The Yak7 will start to come to life soon. There is an enormous amount of stick reddish brown goop all over everything….mold release? 1/48 ICM kit…. Is this normal stuff?

Don't know. OK, RLM 76 lichtblau has gone over bottom of wings and fuselage sides. Next camo coat tomorrow.

Marc, yeah the ICM kits are well known to be covered in goop. Give it a good scrub down with alcohol & a warm water rinse. May take a couple of trys.

ok here is even more yet.

please note that I had no choice in using dry transfer decals for the left side coding of 5-T-1 due to a mishap which resulted in the decal for that side being lost down the drain of the bathroom sink.

BTW the engine cowling is not glued onto the fuselage but I will attach it once I connect the propeller and bearing to the engine.

well the torpedo was finished last night and installed onto the Devastator. I now only have 8 parts left to install onto the plane as well as the rest of the decals.

Cool [8D]Hi gang, sorry I have not been around to post any of my progress pix in the past couple of weeks, I’ve been in Hawaii on vacation. Here are a couple of my in-progress shots of my F-86F30. It’s the Hasegawa kit being done in BMF. More to come soon.

Hey fan,

Nice work on the Sabre. It looks great so far. I see you're going to use foil. IMHO, it's the only way to go. It's a lot of work, but definitely worth the effort. I don't know if you've used that stuff before, but be carefull on your edges. Just handling the parts can cause the edges to lift. That was very frustrating to me. I would get one side of the wing perfect, flip it over to the other side, foil it, then discover damaged edges on the side. That was already completed. AAhhhh!!! Anyway I thought I'd give you a heads up on my problems with foil. Outstanding work so far on your Sabre.

Cool [8D]Hi Dragon.
Yep, I've been using foil for quite a few years now and I wouldn't have it done any other way. Got my technique down really good now. I use a wrap around method on most of the leading and trailing edges to prevent the edges of the foil from lifting while I work on it. That's the best way I've found to avoid foil edges from lifting.
Cheers

The yellow wings are coming along nicely. Only had a few hours last weekend to pack for a three week business trip to Seattle and take care of other business so I didn't get any pictures of the XF5F-1. When I get back at the end of the month I'll peel the masking of and the tale will be told on just how well it went.

Work is progressing relatively quickly on the Yak. The Spartan cockpit is done and installed in the fuselage. If I had forgotten to do that again (see my posts in the P-40 GB about that) I would have to banish myself. Have gotten spoiled by the Hasegawa kit quality. The ICM has a lot of flash… I think I have seen 1 locating pin so far (which is cut off to facilitate alignment) and scrubbing of the mold release was a chore. The good news is the plastic is very soft so it carves nicely for getting scale thickness in some of the parts. Fit has been OK so far but I can tell there will be some work needed around the front of the wing roots. Tried Tamiya putty for the 1st time…. I got a tube of Squadron green to go!!! Have not decided on AM decals or not. One of the sets of marking in the kit uses a camo scheme of green and black… which could be interesting. Is that correct? Black? Been searching the web and one of the few color pics I have found were some screen shots from what looked like a video game and the Yak was green/black. Can I trust their research?

The frames on the canopy would probably scale out to 5 inches wide in places. If these were sanded off and the canopy polished…. Is there a tried and true method putting the frames back more to scale?

A6Efan, and everyone,

Made a little progress lately, now that my P-40 is done. The fuselage is buttoned up, cleaned up seams, preshaded and shot the RLM 76 bottom color. I wanted the shading to be very ,very subtle. LOL....I think I erased it! Oh well....s.... happens. Looking forward to progress from everyone else.

bTW.... the seam you see on the wings is because they're not glued yet. The fit is so good, I'm going to wait until the painting is done.

Cheers,

Jerry

Looking good Jerry. That kit has great fit, like most Tamiya offerings.

Oh yeah Chris, that's really coming along nicely. I love to see the foil make the model come to life piece by piece. Can't waitto see this bird fully dressed.

Finally some modeling timeBig Smile [:D]. Airframe on the Yak is basically complete. Spent a good part of the time getting trailing edges, radiator and scoop thicknesses down to a more scale appearance. Lots more work on the leading edge by the wing root. A couple of intakes to open up. Hopefully tomorrow I will get time enough to take the LG covers down from the thickness of armor plate Disapprove [V]and turn them into… well… LG covers.

Looking pretty good there Mike, the torpedo and the folded wings really set it off. I can't tell from the photos but is there much detail to the wing hinges or is it typical Airfix?

Bit of a progress jump. I'm almost finsihed. I'll post pics of the completed cockpit along with pics of the finsihed model. Other than that I sadly have no progress pics.

Looking good so far gents. I'm almost done applying the foil on my F-86. Just have the left wing tip, the tip of the vertical stab and the nose of the intake to finish up. Then the decals. I'll try and get a couple of pix posted tonight before I turn in for the night. I'll be leaving for the Nats in the morning. Talk to you all when I get back.
