My sister was in town for a few days.... so no building.

Now I have to tear down my bench and redo it on the other side of the room...so no building.

I am going through build withdrawals... I need a fix...

Well not a lot of action in this thread so I am happy to announce IT’S FINISHED... Not the Yak… the bench... and it is technically out of the box… so here it is. I just don’t know what to do with the space….build 4 or 5 at a time? Maybe, but I have to finish the Yak for this GB 1st. Next pics will be of that.

Oh yeah... IT WILL NEVER LOOK THAT NEAT AGAIN ...starting....NOW.

Very nice set up Marc. Way too neat, but I'm sure you can correct that problem Smile [:)]

Wingnut - you've got a nice looking setup. Looks like you're inside the house, where it's air-conditioned and heated. But what do you do about paint fumes?

Tankmaster - let's see some pix!!

It's been too hot to build out in the garage, so I"ve made very little progress on the Razorback. I had some problems gluing the fuselage together - the front of the cockpit was too wide. Not what I expected from a Tamiya kit... or maybe it was just my ham-fistedness putting it together.
Dave On the bench: 1/48 F-105D - a bird my friend's dad was shot down in - and survived.

It is a great poster. I picked it up at the USS Intrepid in NY… I love that place. Hey I just got an idea for a GB….build the poster! Whadja think… start now with an end date in say… 4 years?

You know the old saying…”My house, my rules.” Really, the wife is supportive of the hobby and this is a corner of the downstairs family room, so it is sort of out of the way. She and the kids will come down and watch TV while I Build and it’s nice.
The fumes are easy. Off this room is the laundry room and through that is the utility room. I put the double fan in the window blowing out, I work right in front of the fan and it works great. Most time I don’t need a respirator but I use one. It was tested with several nice big draws of a good cigar… La Gloria Cubana Maduro…. mmmm very yummy… and it really pulled the smoke out. There is a white toilet just out of view about 2 1/2-3 feet to the left and I did a “white glove test” (with a paper towel) on the top of the tank after 2 complete builds and not a smudge of color settled. To the right is Swanny’s fume can stuck on the wall with Velcro for one-handed usage.

Sharp looking Sabre...will you be using any type of setting solution? I have always wondered how a transfer would react to a solution on BMF...looking forward to seeing it...

I have been forced into a bit of a hiatus (sp)...the A/C unit decided to go tits up and we had quite a bit of water damage from the overflowBanged Head [banghead]..in a way it could have been a lot worse if it were not for my current projects...

I was walking into the garage to take some photos of the X1 and new pics of the P40 when I heard a SQUISH...thats how I found it...caught it early, but it still Censored [censored]

A6Efan, The BMF looks good, but the yellow ID band decal on the left wing looks as though it wrinkled badly. Maybe it's just the pixelation in the pic ?

Yep, the decals were freshly applied and were still settling down. In answer to JoeRugby's question, yes I do use a seting solution, (Micro-Sol and Micro-Set) on BMF. And after all decals have dried, I apply some Future to seal them on. Here's a couple more shots of todays progress. Sorry to hear about your A/C incident Joe. Hope you can get it cleaned up without too much trouble.
Enjoy the pix.

Finally some work on the Yak-7. Most time spent getting things into scale appearance. Sanding down the LG doors so they don’t scale up to about 2/3” thick (paper thin now), carving out air scoop, intakes etc., thinning trailing edges, opening the air intakes at the front of the wing root, rescribing all the tread on the tires and drilling out all the holes in the hub. The last pic is the profile of the LG door. The ICM kit has some interesting inconsistencies with detail. Generally lacking, as in the fact the there is a scribed hinge line on one side of the horizontal stabs but nothing at all on the other… fine for straight and level but if I had a 109 on my butt I think up and down might be useful. Then there are these beautiful ribs on the inside of the gear doors. These ribs are about 1/2 of the thickness you can see in the photo.

I'm actually home from Seattle this weekend and have a chance to take the masking off the XF5F-1 Skyrocket. The yellow wings are looking pretty good. The coat of Tamiya Flat Yellow XF-3 as a primer and MM Chrome Yellow overcoat worked!

Rear right stabilzer, pitot tube, and right antenna need some repair after gorilla hands (yours truly) tore off the masking so delicately *sarcasm*.
More to do, but finally an opportunity to share.

Thanks for the complements all. Tough to find time to work on this, but I should get it done and have it hanging from the ceiling in my office before the October deadline with two more weekends at home between now and then.

Hiking the east ascent of Mount Rainier (Paradise to Camp Muir) next weekend and around St. Helens the following weekend. Cannot wait! It may be taking me away from my beloved hobby, but at least I'm trying to make the most of this second west coast assignment this year (LA other back in January).

Wing_nut : pretty cool looking. Can you get a shot of the office? Your crazy sanding down those doors...they would break instantly with my ham fisted fists Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

Quagmeyer: Also excellant. I like the way you brought off the NMF and your masking for the yellow came off beautifully. I always have bleed somewhere's.

Here is a progess shot of the interior painted (including a scratch IP). I actually have the fuse and wings assembled together at this point. Didn't fit as well as I would have hoped, but it wasn't too bad.

I guess you did not notice the sausages holding the door. Wink [;)] I got the doors so thin that the locator holes for the LG on the inside opened on the outside and had to be filled. There isn’t much to take a pic of in the pit… seat, stick, and a decal for the IP. This is as OOB as you can get. I did make a harness from lead foil and bent wire buckles. That will be the only thing not from the box. I am a little worried about the kit decals but I am going the give them a try. I saw a Yak-9 at an air show not too long ago and thought it was very cool and decide to get one on the shelf. Figured the OOB GB was perfect as this is for the outside appearance only.

After promising to post photos, missing my own deadline to do so and then having the a/c Censored [censored] the bed I will be posting my completed X! at the weekend...

Comments so far on the build...Nice work all the way around...it is working out just as I imagined. Push your skills to the point of maximum with minimal tools to work with...

Any other comments would be appreciated...
