Welcome, Brian..both to the GB and to the forums.

I love those straight wing jets, although I don't know much about the Heller kit. Looking forward to seeing yours.

I finally received my Dragon M46 Patton (Korean War Series) kit yesterday.  I'd love to join this group build.  Let me know if I'm in.

I'd like to dedicate my build to my uncle "Eddie" who was commander of an M46 in Korea, and is now passed away.

Just got the ebAY purchase of the Testor/Hawk F2H Banshee today. I must say, I can't wait to start this little porject. 13 days and counting.

I know the feeling. It's ok to open it up and fondle all the pieces. Just try to keep the glue and paint at bay for 12 more days.

Larry! Cool...someone else building armor. Big Smile [:D] I'll be right there with you doing the Dragon M4A3 Flame Sherman (Korean War Series)...unless you think I should go with the Chinese JS-2 Stalin (Korean War Series) to give your Patton something to shoot at. Whistling [:-^]

Hey, you still planning on going to Nationals?

Larry, you are in.  I really like the sentimental builds like yours. If you don't mind sharing some of Uncle Eddie's life as you build, I'd be very interested to hear it.

Mucker,

I like the badge also.  As I wrote earlier, here are a few photos of the F-86F that I started back in December which is about 50% complete.  Work has been crazy busy since the beginning of the year which has meant very little time building.

Looks like a top notch job so far, Steve. I just love the lines of the Sabre. It even looks good without paint. By the way, how do you find the kit so far? I've yet to try the Hasegawa version.

Mucker,

So far the only fit issue that I have had is the nose cone was wider than the fuselage so there was quite a bit of sanding and shaping necessary.  The kit cockpit is a bit bare, so I used the True Details resin set along with the True Details wheels.

I've never used Alclad paints before but I am going to use them on this once I get ready to paint.  As the kit that I have is the JASDF Saber, I bought the Aeromaster USAF Korean War Saber Jets Pt 2 (#48-750).  I am going to use the decals for Lt Sam Johnson's Shirleys Texas Tornado.  I've never built a Sabre before, but I really love the lines and need to add a few more to the stash!

Excellent choice of decals, Steve.

I've dabbled a few times before finally succeeding with alclad. I've found it's very easy if you are patient, meaning let the primer cure for at LEAST 48 hours, and paint at least 24 hours before decaling.

best way i have used with aclad on my p51's is i used dark aluminum aclad and primer it and sand that with fine sanding then i would spray the aclad lightly a few times until i seen there was full coverage and liked the finished then when it sat over night and cured then i would take a piece of blue jeans then i would buff the aclad finish to a shine that is the easiest and best way i found to use it.

I have a few test "subjects" that I experiment painting on when I'm trying or using something new.  I'm going to play with this before putting any paint on the F-86.

Welcome back, Harv. I had a very nice Father's Day weekend myself.

I've put the badge on the first page, and as long as you're pretty certain you'll be a part of the GB, feel free to wear it whenever you want. It's good advertisement, anyways!

Medals will be posted upon build completion.

If it's a Korean War Howitzer, by all means "YES". Diorama's too if that's your forte. Being mainly an aircraft guy, I am looking forward to the Armor and "other" categories to broaden my horizons. Let me know which kit you have and if you are "in".

Mucker-I know that I'm listed for an F-51D, but......I'm heading out for a short vacation next week with the family and have the Dragon Korean War Sherman kit sitting in the stash and armour tends to be buildable in such situations....anyway, I'm still committed to the F-51 but I think I'll try to throw the Sherman together next week, then paint when we get home....or at least by 12/31...

Sounds good, Bob. I've updated the first page, but to be sure (since I'm not a treadhead) are you talking about the 1/35 Dragon M4A3E8 "Easy Eight" kit?

Have fun on vacation.

Mucker, can I join this GB with a 1/35 Zvezda M-30 122mm Howitzer.Smile [:)] Stikpusher told me, the North Korean Army was modelled and equipped along Soviet lines at the time that the war began. They did use SU-76s and T-34/85s. So having the 122mm M-30 would be a reasonable equipment presumption.

So can I join in with this howitzer?Question [?]

Mg.Mikael: Hmm. I'm not quote the artillery expert either. Have you found any references to the M-30 being used in the Korean War? If the piece you are building is attached to the Korean War somehow, I'd say "yes".

Anyone out here know have references to M-30's being used by NOrth Korean troops during this conflict?

Harv: Once you get a few badges, I'd recommend making your own ".gif" file to show them all in one space. If you google "free GIF conversion" you will find several downloadable software which you add your pictures to to create a GIF file (like I have in my signature line). Hope this helps.

I couldn't resist a google search. This is what I found.

This link it to a Korean War page that is of the principal weapons used. It mentions the M-30 at the bottom.

http://www.rt66.com/~korteng/SmallArms/PrincipalWeapons.htm

This is a Wikipedia link that mentions the 8th Division of NK, and mentions 122mm weapons. It gets its data from the global security site (link at the bottom of the page).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/8th_Division_(North_Korea)

Also, a link refenced from the Wikipedia site. Do a search for '122' and you'll get to the M-30s.

http://www.history.army.mil/brochures/KW-Outbreak/outbreak.htm

Given it seems to be generally regarded that NK got mostly WWII surplus from the Soviets for it's army, I'd say it's resonable for them to have had the M-30.

Let's be clear here, Mg.Mikael: The only dumb question is "Do I really need one more kit?" (Of course you do!)Wink [;)]

Yes, please feel free to use the badge in your signature line.

After the build is complete, I post a "medal" next to your line on the first page for your "service". It's no big deal, and probably won't help you land your next job, but hoepfully adds a little more incentive to stay involved in the GB. Higher participation makes it more fun for everyone and seems to have the snowball effect.

Thanks and yepper....that's the one.  Hopefully I can make a sizeable dent in it (and the indy links if nothing else) while we're at the beach.  Looking at the instructions, the treads are the only area of concern-they aren't the Magic Links.  But on the plus side, the bogies are not the multi-piece affair on the latest M4A3E8 'Thunderbolt' kit...which is also sitting in the stash awaiting its turn in line....
