Well done, Steven. The Tigercat is such as sleek, sexy bird. It's too bad jets pretty much made planes like this obsolete. Congrats on being te first done. You;ve been awarded your Korean Conflict service badge on the first page.

Stephen, as I said in your post in aircraft, your F7F looks the part.  All the pictures I've seen of the Korean Tiger Cats do not look like they were well loved by the painters!  Are you sending me that barrel of gas?

Now that the pressure is off about who finishes first, here are some pictures of what I have been doodling with.  The engine cart is official. I put USAF markings and an equipment serial on it from the decal spares box.

Stephen-Fantastic job on the Tigercat.  The paint/finish is outstanding!

John-The engine looks great.  Looking forward to seeing more of your build.

Nice work on the cart, John! The decals really add some realism. Now you've got me chompin' at the kit to break open my Sabre. Of course I still haven't figured out which one to use: the Italeri with the incorrect slatted wing or try to find a resin kit for the Hasegawa kit.

I can always start either a T-33 or the Mig-15 first if I want to try the resin on the Hasegawa kit, but seeing your progress makes me want to dig into the Italeri kit.

Not to steal his work, a poster called "34Drive" on another forum posted the below comments. THere is some neat stuff there if some of you out there are still undecided as to what to build.

Here's my list of communist aircraft that participated in some manner in the Korean war. I have researched this for over 20 years. I have included non-combat types, and at least one type that was withdrawn before seeing combat. All confirmed by photo, wreckage, gun camera, official records, or eyewitness reports. Please feel free to add to the list.

Fighters:

La-9;
La-11;
La-15 (withdrawn from Manchuria due to undercarriage problems);

Yak-9U;
Yak-9P;
Mig-9;
Mig-15;
Mig-15bis;
F-63A (destroyed on ground in SSR)

Attack:

Il-10;
Il-2m3 (wreckage found);

Bombers:

Tu-2;
Il-28;
A-20G Havoc (SSR)

Trainers:

Yak-11;
Yak-18;
Po-2;
Ki-55;
Mig-15UTI
Willow;
Spruce;
Yak-17UTI;
Sukoi UTB

Transport:

Ki-57;
Ki-54;
C-47;
Li-2;
Il-12

Sea:
MBR-2

Rumoured but no supporting evidence:

Tu-4 (observed by B-26 late 1954);
La-7 (misidentified La-9);
Yak-16 (again, mis-numbered Yak-18??);
P-39
Yak-7U;
F-86A;
Yak-17;
Mi-1

Wow. That's quite a list! Shock [:O]

I guess the trick with this is to find the correct markings for some of these...unless that's not a big concern?

Good point. Yes, it should be a vehicle or piece of equipment that participated in the War. I'd prefer that the markings/colors reflect this.

With the communist side, I may be wrong here but the markings were not all that tricked out in comparison to the NATO side. I'm sure there are exceptions, but from what I've seen typically country ID markings and code numbers. Some of the North Korean Migs had pretty neat paint jobs, as well.

If you've got a half-decent size spares box of decals, putting together the correct markings may not be as difficult as it seems.

Very nice Tigercat, Steve. My fav of piston fighters.

Saw one once in real life at an airshow. It was awesome to see it in flight.

John, great looking engine.

  Well I scored big this morning. I went to GM website and looked at their deep pocket sale. Found a set of CUTTING EDGE posable 1950`s aircraft seat belts for 5.95. They accualy had a few CE things on sale ,cheep. No building this week. Due to the fact my "man cave" is in the garage now, and its only10am and 90deg out side already!!. So needless to say, I`ll stay inside and do some web research on a few things...............Harv

Being an airplane guy, I'm biased towards the B-29. THe B-29 looks really nice with foil on it...

But it really depends on which one gets your modeling juices flowing more.

I'm guessing a 1/48 B-29 must be COLOSSAL, so I'm voting for that! Big Smile [:D]

I decided to start with the Mig (1/48 Tamiya) while I figure out how to handle the "E" wing on the Sabre. I am now looking at the Airwaves resin conversion for the Hasegawa kit. Great models has one listed as "Special Order" so I'm inquiring as to the availability of such item.

I haven't built a Tamiya kit in a while so hopefully this one will be as smooth as the previous ones and I'll have her together in the time it takes me to find the wing conversion.

Alright u all talked me into it.I will build both the M-40 and the B-29 only problem i can find with the B-29 is that the nose art is has a censored block on it and i dont like that so will have to figure out what to do with the decal if i should order a A/M decal will look into it if u all have some ideas feel free to share them

There were B-29's that had "Censored" across the nose art.  Beauracracy had a heavy hand in the Pacific B-29 groups.

Ok after further research of the B-29 "Cream of the Crop" that the kit decals are covering from korea shows pictures of it with and without the censored stamp on it so since it was in korea with a censor stamp then i will build it that way

That's one of the great things about the period, jets were not completely dominant yet. Some late WW2 era (Mustang, Corsair, B-29, some Soviet prop Migs and Yaks) and just missed the war aircraft (Tigercat, Sea Fury, Neptune) were still active, it is also an interesting time for the helicopter (H-5, H-19) which was just starting to be recognized as a useful tool.

As much as I hate to say it, technicallythe Huckbein doesn't count...but like Aaron said, there are plenty of props in this one. Mustangs, Corsairs, even a bi-plane from the Russians.
