The Forgotten War GB (6/25/08 - 2/28/09) - Deadline Extended Yet Again!

I've got some business travel and then vacation from Thursday thru the weekend, which means no bench time for a week!!!

Here's my progress on the Mig-15 so far, so you don't think I'm slacking! Excellent kit so far...stereotypical Tamiya.

  Mucker, I knew you`d make an awsome MIG! It looks great. The engine is too cool.Keep posting.

  John, thanks for the pics. I know I`ve seen one pic somewhere of a pilot stepping up on this door, but the wing part was still attached to the door. I cant remember where I saw it. I tried doing some searching ealier, but came up emptyhanded. But good info...........Harv

Hi there guys, I have been lurking in this thread for a little while now admiring all of your great work and thought it was about time made a post and threw my hat into the ring.  If it's not too late I'd like to sign up with a 1/72 Revell A-26B.

It's actually just a reboxing of the Italeri kit but with the solid gun nose and for once am going to try and avoid AMS and build this baby OOB, wish me luck.

ok guys i havent done much to the jeep ambulance latley but i hope to have it done by saturday. i just got thru with the vintage armour gb so look out for a couple of pics of the priest-kangaroo from that one and and a few from this one. i am on a roll now and i hope to keep it going.

well was trying to work on the jeep today and had a major malfunction. i was not able to save it all. so i will go ahead and build my dodge field ambulance. i see that thier is a jeep ambulance and i  am bidding on it. so i hope to have both for this gb.

harv - Hey, I got two of those! (target cabinets ;) And thanks for sharing all that great info on the F-86.. look forward to the rest of the pit (and plane!)  not sure about planes, but in WW2 armor, "bis" meant "second" type, like the French Char Bi Bis. IIRC, a slighty improved version that does not warrant a new version "number".

 I finally caught up with all the great work in here... my only "Forgotten war" activity has been reading Max Hastings book on Korean War, which I heartilly recommend. Wont start building anything for couple months as I finish other GBs... cheers

Sorry for the late reply...I've been away on vacation. Ity would be an honor to have you join. I've always thought the A/B-26's were the coolest of the propeller age bombers.

I have actually done some work on the Thunderjet, but nothing to show for it. Cockpit is done, that much went fine, but when painted all the NMF parts black it didn't set right, instead of gloss black I got a weird rough satinlike finish. I threw it into CSC to strip the paint and it won't come off after 3 days of soaking (maybe old, I've used it to strip chrome off several times), I'm going to try some fresh CSC, if that doesn't work then I guess its time for the oven cleaner. 

So much for a quicky build.

I know what you mean about the "Quick builds"...they no longer exist in my world. Anything within a month I consider a "weekend build". But it sounds like you're taking  it all in stride which is good. The THunderjet builds into such a nice bird when it's done. Looking forward to yours.

all righ guys. i have started the replacement for this gb. its the dodge field ambulance wc-54. and so far not one problem at all. but i am at a cross road right now. i have a review of this kit and it shows the inside to be od green but the instructions say paint it white. so does any one know what color it should be? i am leaning on doing it od green. so tell me what yall all think of it so far.oh and i looked a the jeep ambulance earler in the day and i think i can save it.also these two will be in a diroma thats been swriling around in my brain.

it was done in od green i think it was white from the factory and painted in field but i could be wrong on that but here is a link with some pics.

this looks like its gonna be a good GB. my miggy is gonna be camo and a russian ace from '53. the name escapes me at the moment but ive got a great profile in my ref pile.

well this is were i am at with the ambulance. the undercarrage has been hand painted in which  thats somthing i havent done in some time. but i am going to have to break out the darn ab tomrrow. i forgot how hard it is to cover a white piec of plastic.

I did a bit of a search on the interior of the dodge ambulance and found this shot which is interesting.  Even though it was taken in 1945 and not Korea, the ambulance on the left hand end of the front row with it's doors open shows an OD interior color.

Looking really good GA. One tip I use when spraying white is to prime with either a light gray primer or a white primer. The primer coats it quicker and allows you to use less top coat.
