the doog Totally cool, Tony--man, I wanted this kit so bad, but the price just put it out of reach for me. Can't justify it right now. Really interested to see what you do with it!

I had never seen the kit before, but it sold at my IPMS club's raffle for only $24. A visiting modeler from Utah won it and couldn't believe his luck. That dude spent well over $150 in the club auction but ended up with a pile of kits about 3 feet high. Fortunately for him, half of the club works for UPS, most as pilots and could get the big box of kits sent cheap.
24 bucks wow, man he did get a great deal.
Because of the rain all day I didn't get much done but I did get about an hour or so before the bottom fell out.
24 Dollars WOW

Shoot Low Boys They're Ridin Ponys
Lordy me, everything so far is just beautiful, the chassis is in a class of it's own. I am stunned by what you have done with the gun so far, this approach will give you an excellent contrast when getting t o the finish and as for the metallic finish, well if you told me it was machined steel I would nota doubt it, great work Tony.
Terry.
Terry you're just to kind. You're going to give me the big head if you keep that up.
Top notch work as always Pvt Mutt. I am always in awe at your ability to build models.

WHO ME??????
I don't think it's "Top Notch" level yet but i'm working on it with a little help from my friends.
Thanks Mac appreciate the compliment.
Yeah, the green looks great Tony.
Eric
Love it! I didn't realize the cannon is not permanently mounted to the vehicle... always learning especially those SPGs and artillery here.
Thanks buddy!
Andy
Well.....I have not been able to drop by for a while and look what you didi. Absolutly outstanding.....love the chassis.
As I get back into the forum, I am like the blind man feeling the elephant....and you are a part that has no question (thank god) .
Rounds Complete!!
"The Moral High Ground....A Great Place to Emplace Artillery."
And what part is that Mike? NO don't answer that.
Thanks anyway bud
Nice work on the gun details Tony. Have to agree with Terry, that's some fine work on the breech finish.
BP Models
Yeah Thanks Bill. Mike put me onto Alclad II and it sure makes it easy.
Had to skip my meds for a month but that stuff is worth it.
Makes me want to work on my SU122 Howitzer. Though it would take me a while to complete the 64 122mm rounds and 32 ammo crates I got for it. Lordy me I think my late uncle Ivan would approve as he was a redleg in WWII (he was dutch not Russian) before getting a hardship discharge so he could run the family farm.

Beautiful ! Up to your normal...or maybe a bit higher level.
Rob
Well Rob I hope it's a bit higher but there's still time to go lower too.
Good to see ya my friend
Like the details !
Neat build on a cool vehicle, looking forward to the finish. Keep up the great work!
Pat.
Thanks Pat and Carl
Shellbacks and PollywogsMy dad would get a big kick out of telling me and my brother about that.Seemed to be the only bright spot in his service life during the war.
The wife wouldn't let me put off getting my flu shot any longer so I had to go get that before she would give back my air brush but when she did I made hay while the sun shined.
Installed and painted the rest of the levers on the breech. Sprayed a base coat of Tamiya Desert Yellow lightened with a heavy dose of Buff. The top coat is LifeColor(UA 201)RAL 8020 Gelbbraun,a real light sand. The canvas flaps received a light coat of Tamiya Deck Tan and the tie straps were painted leather.
That's it for today folks
Tony - I am glad you are innoculated.....listen to the woman, she has your best intrest at heart......ok, maybe second best, since you would rather model!!
At least you wont go NMC during the winter !!
(ok.....nmc.....non mission capable)
Mike the only time I didn't get the shot I got the flu, never again.
Heart attacks are more fun than that stuff believe me.
Catherine is a good woman that's why i've kept her around for so long.
I imagine that the line crossing ceremony was probably a break in the day to day routine and tension aboard a ship during the war . I crossed it twice and the second time was was the best !
This model is looking really sharp .
I'm religious as well in terms of getting my flu shot yearly. My wife works at a germ factory aka elementary school as a music teacher so I get exposed to all sorts of bugs and I learned my lesson the first year.
Nice work so far Tony on the paint work, looking forward to more.
OK Bill you want more you get more.
This was delivered with the last batch in Feb of 42 so not a lot of wear and tear but they still get dirty. I used AK Interactive DAK Filter and DAK Wash for weathering. I'll let this dry and then install the gun armor shields and tie down the gun in the stirups.
Thanks for droppin by
That weathering is right on .
Chillinn is obviously working for you Tony.

Nice work on the filters/weathering...the gun remaining in Russian green provides for some nice visual contrast as well. Might just be the pic and/or the fact that the tie-down stirrups haven't been fitted yet but the left wheel looks a little wobbly?
Thanks fellows appreciate your compliments.
Bill the wheels aren't glued so it will make getting the shields installed easier. I also may have to trim the trails a little more too. The gun fits in there pretty tight maybe too tight.
Looks like rain again but who knows????
Coming along just great, Tony--it's kinda funny when you see how "simple and stupid" they just boxed up the towed gun into that chassis. No complicated designing there, just build a box and stuff it in!
Kinda like I wrap my Christmas presents.............
Looking terrific, once again!
On top of that Karl they striped out almost 900lbs of extra weight but they left the wheel on.
Thanks my friend
Pvt Mutt On top of that Karl they striped out almost 900lbs of extra weight but they left the wheel on. Thanks my friend Tony lee
Tony if you look at how the gun sits in the fighting compartment you'll start to get an idea as to what the method was to leaving the wheels in place. Take notice of the gap between gun carriage and the deck which allows for elevation of the barrel. The Germans had to field this piece quickly which left little time for redesigning the gun and fighting compartment though they could have mated the 76.2mm gun to the Stug III gun cradle and traverse mechanism and made a rudimentary armoured fighting compartment that was partially enclosed .
