DON !, yes , I am using postimage , I find it the easiest of the lot [ thank's to stickpusher for showing me how to use it ] . I accidently erased a folder on postimage that's why a couple of photo's didn't stay put .

I am thinking of doing this victory in the 1765 mode , is anybody able to give me some site's or reference's that I can use , pete coleman 's site has been stuffed up thank's to photobucket's stand over tactic's , and all my source's have disappeared , especially michael's beatiful model , any help will be greatly appreciated , thank's in advance guy's

Two of the best sources of research and information on the building of the VICTORY, are "The Anatomy of the Ship" by John McCay and "The Anatomy of Nelson's Ships" by Nepean Longridge. Both books give exact detail of the VICTORY in pictures and script. McCay's book has more illustration details and would be the better research. To obtain both books involves contaction used book stores dealing with marine subjects. Start with the internet on used books.

This is most interesting to me. I don't recall anyone doing a WIP on HMS Victory here on FineScale since I joined back in 2010. However my memory cells are very much on the decline so I may have simply forgotten. Good for you! I'm very much looking forward to your build!

With respect to the Pete Colman site, I was just able to log on so I'm not sure to what you are referring when you say the site has been "..stuffed up.." In any case I'll post a link that might be of interest .. or not.

thank's mike , what I meant by stuffed up , in the hms victory diaries section , on pete coleman's site , a bloke named michael , I think it is the first one , was doing a beautiful 1765 version of the victory with all of it's difference's to the 1805 version , cut away top deck around the main mast , balconies on the stern , the mizzen mast had a different sail configuration etc, all of his pic's have been hijacked by photobucket , the reference material I am after is when the victory was first built , so I can compare the two versions this is all I have been able to find so far

finally got one rigged , at this rate , the cannon's are going to take a while to finish , LOL .

finally able to get some more work done , with thickening of the hull around the gun port's , on the bottom 2 deck's .  I do have john mckay's book , but it is only on the later version of the victory . can anyone tell me if the gun port 's , were painted red like in the early 1765 version as well , gee ! I am missing the prof already , he was such a wealth of information ,and a  thourough gentleman to go with it .

Note the different colors of the gunports, also the different shades of grey and blue :-)

Quarter deck last two ports greenish blue, the rest red

Upper deck last two ports greyish blue, the other ports with lid white, open ports red

Middle deck white

Lower deck red

To make things really colorful: all gunports with lids have the recess where the lip closes in painted red.

Absolutely beautiful Steve. You won't rig the lower deck cannons too will you? I'd be crazier than a March Hare if I did even one.  Is that big rope on the cannon from your new rope tool ?

thank's gene , a march hare I ain't , no I intend doing 20 top , and upper deck cannons , plus the two caronades , the rest you don't see and will only have the red stopper in the end of the bigger cannons ,

the bigger rope is from syren , .025 , or .63mm , it's beautiful stuff .the rope machine is for later on seizing the shrouds etc .

dafi your work is sublime , I would love to see you do another victory and put as much work into the top deck , that would be something .

Nice work! Those thickened gun ports really make a difference. 

On my Victory, I cheated and just ran a thick breaching rope along from knob to knob, attaching it to the inner side of the ship between each cannon; on the lower two gun decks.

On the upper gun deck, it's totally ok to rig the tackle on the guns visible under the gangways, only.

Gun tackle properly also has a running in tackle at the back, attached to a ring in the deck.

thank's gmorrison , was intending to do the back rigging , did you thicken the upper deck too , I was thinking , the walls would taper some what . I used 3.2mm on the two lower gun deck's , maybe 1.5mm on the upper ? 

I am also going to have a go at putting in some knee's , between the cannon's , have to wait and see how I'll go with that one ,

on a side note , any chance of a couple of pic's of your victory . would love to see it .

Yes I did all three decks a little different, grabbing approximate thicknesses from McKay.

I'm still waiting for some gear to arrive , starting to make some slight changes to the hull , don't know what these are called , but I know they were on the 1765 model

If you feel like it, you could enlarge the upper whale. Should have the same width as the middle one. Just add some stripes of Evergreen underneath and on top.

thank's daniel , I'll put them on before I glue the hull halves together . should still be able to see the hole's from the inside then ., what's with the built up walls on the poop deck . I have alway's thought they should have them ,  I'm sure they wouldn't like loosing too many men over board up there ,

I have stayed on the way michael depicted her , and started modifying the gunnals , is that the correct term ?

I am quite confident that the Vic got some kind of build bulkwards on the poop in 1803. The picture shows just one of three tested versions that I found on contemporary models.

As for the Vic of 1765 or better 1778 - first time commissiond - it is more easy, look at the model of 1765 or at the poop today with only the netting and hammoc cranes. That should just fit.

If going to England  i recomend going to Portsmouth where the ship is docked.I did while in the NAVY and it is a very impressive ship to visit.

If I could ,seastallion I would love to , not in the forseable future I'm afraid .
