This is why I don't begin my Heller 1/100 HMS Victory - It would drive me to drink! (I mean, of course, more booze than I ought to be drinking Wink.

Steve, you're a brave, talented model builder and my hat's off to you. The scratch building, modifications, and the general repetitiveness of doing what must be done to achieve a satisfactory looking end result (I'm referring to the cannons when I mentioned repetitiveness) would be beyond the scope of my skills and would probably send me off the deep end of the sanity chart were I to attempt the project. Nonetheless, I'm certainly transfixed with this thread and will be checking in on your progress for sure.

thankyou mike for the nice word's , I seem to get bored with the smaller model's , over too quick , though thinking about it , it might explain some of my drinking habit'sEmbarrassed

while I was in the cutting up mode , I had a go at the poop deck by shifting the skylight hole back a bit , and adding some beams , as per dafi's recommendation's , I think I'm getting a bit cocky with this modifying lark Whistling , dafi also explained that the top wale is too narrow, see how I go expanding it .

Looking good Steve, as you've found out, once you get rolling the mods are not that difficult, just a lot of them.

Great!

I am not sure, but I do believe in 1778 the anchor shoe was not yet fit.***

***PS: As the chains are placed one deck lower the shoes make no sense there anyway ;-)

Hi Steve;

Listen , I need to remind you to paint the gun decks below the main deck in red . Why ? It was done to lessen the shock of seeing the blood of a crewman or even yourself after getting hit by those murderous splinters a good hit would generate .

michael , dafi , do you still have to extend the channel's , when they get lowered one deck down ??

Hi Steve,

The only modifications I did was to relocate and reduce the amount of deadeyes on the Fore and Main channels, the Mizzen I believe were fine.

dafi has sent me some old sketch's , and some photo's of a model they show , 10 shroud's on the fore , 12 on the main , and only 5 on the mizzen , I am basically going by your beautiful model build , but I don't have any pic's of it with the shroud's , ratline's done , only the hull , { which I'm very grateful for , after what photobucket did } . in the model supplied kit they give a large ,and a small channel , for the backstay's , but I noticed the 1765 one had only 1 large one , with the backstay's also on it . am I correct in this mate .

steve

great to have you aboard , I'm pretty sure I'm going to need your help , with this mate .

Steve,

I'm working on setting up an account on post image, so I'll have some updated pics soon.

According to the 1/48 scale draught I have of the ship, there are 7 Mizzen shrouds, 11 Main shrouds and 10 Fore shrouds along with the small back stay stool/channels, this is the approach I went with.

All of the models I've seen except one represent this configuration.\and just adds to the mystique of how she was actually fitted.

thank's for that , I just went back over what dafi sent me , what I took as back stay's were in fact 2 extra shroud's , sorry about that .

For the chains, to be correct, it should have 3 links instead of two as in 1803.

But I do not believe that someone will realise apart from "chain-link-counters" like us ;-)

Great work!

Steve I did switch them around based on what I saw on the McNary model along with painting the channels black and if I remember correctly had I left them i would be cutting some of the grate anyway shortening the deck. My goal is to preserve as much as the plastic as possible using very little wood as possible,IE: Lateen yard, deadeyes and Qtr deck grates.

Keep up the good work Mate!

Looking good Steve, I removed a 1/2" of the deck aft the fore mast. I have a measurement of 11mm from the fore leading of the grate to the center line of the fore mast opening, hope that helps.

Already one remark for later on: The small scuttles on the lower gun port lids have to be cut off, they were introduced only much later on.

The gunport hinges of the lower deck have the hinge for the small ventilation scuttle in the middle of the gunport. These scuttles were only introduced later on, so the hinges are obsolete and have to be cut off. See 268 + 279. Should be like 317 XXXDAn

I thought the carronade's , should have some sort of wheel's under it , so it could slide side to side , so I cut an old connon I had from my soleil royal , and glued them on . I think they came out OK .

Steve I see you're going for a later date using those carronades? 1780 I believe they were in use.
