I got the Stuka wrapped up last weekend with the fitting of the antenna cable and securing the aircraft to its base. And with my portable photo booth turning up during the week, it was time to see if i can start improving my pics.

Despite the issues, and knowing it could be better, i am prety pleased with this and its nice to finally have a large Stuka on the shelf, more so because its this one.

Update on the 190 to follow soon.

Thanks Steve. Ye, your right there, have a nice T-34 in flames under it. Though i am not sure the ceiling in this place would handle it, its a big bugger, especially for somone used to 72nd scale.

Great finish on your 87 Bish. Yes It would look good hanging from the celling strafing some armor LOL.

Thanks Dwayne. I am satified that i have done my best with it and am probably being a bit over harsh on myself.

PJ, i think the gun pod is fixable. It just a case of altering the opening on the sides of one of them, making one a bit bigger and closeing the other slightly.

As for the markings,i believe the alternative option is Rudels other aircraft with the white strpes on the rudder. If so, then the black work number is fine, but i think the swastika should still be wite. So it depends which aircraft your doing.

Haven't looked at any reviews yet but if the decals are bad then aftermarket ones are the way to go. The underwing cannon issue you mentioned should be able to be corrected or is it too much work?

Hey Bish, that Stuka looks amazing.  Fantastic job.  I get you on wanting to get this perfect and not quite getting there, but really, the canopy issue is the only one that is noticeable, and that certainly is not on you.  You got this as perfect as the kit allows.  YesYes

Cheers guys.

MM, i was really pleased with how the canopy came out, i do like those Montex canopy masks and being able to mask both inside and oput is really handy. I'll be useing those again.

PJ, ye, have seen that kit and looks nice, and from what i hear their Stuka's build really well. But it seems that Trump let themselves down on small details. Haveing looked at some reviews and sprue shots, the guns are wrong in that they have done them left and right handed when they should not be. Also the decals have some issues.

Truly, that Kanonvogel is superb!   The canopy frame looks fantastic.  Top notch masking.  Also, the spiral on the spinner looks wonderful!  Well done sir.  Beer

Ditto Superb work as usual Bish. You did excelent work on the Hase kit.

Hey I have the Trumpeter 1/32 G2 and looks VERY impressive in the box. Hopefully it will go together well.

Ok, I made note of that...if you recall I messed up on my first wash by doing acrylic on acrylic LOL...that is one of the fun things about this. Learning from trial and error. Again, super job on the Stuka and 190. I'll be there one day

Thanks Hunter.

Landing gear bays? If your reffering to the Fw 190, i used Flory wash, which i just spread all over. Then i remove the excess and once dry do a dry brush with the base colour lightened with some white oil paint.

Yes, sorry to mention it was the 190. And thank you for the information. Gonna give it a go.

Bish

I am almost done with the Kanonvogel, just one thing to add to the kit and one for the base, but need to get in some supplies for those. So just a small update before the final pics, hopefully next weekend.

First thing i will say is sorry about the lousy pics. I really need to sort that out. Hopefully i will get my butt into gear and get that photo setup i have been meaning to get for months.

So with all the painting done, it was decal time. Had no issues with this, got to be easier than masking.

And then the final touches. Weathering was done with some Flory washes. I have had isues with this in the past. With Xtracolour enamels, i find the wash gets repelled and i had the same issues here on top of the Alclad gloss. But i can't seem to find anyone else who has this problem. I think next time i will take some pics and contact Flory direct, see if they can suggest anything.

So after about 4 days of doing the washes, i was hapy enough, so some exhaust staining with Tamiya smoke was followed by a flat coat and all the final pieces added. One issue i was anticipating was the pilots sliding section of the canopy, and it didn't dissapoint. It doesn't fit over the centre fixed section correctly. So i have it partially open, as far back as i could go and get it down, and had to clamp it into place while drying. Its still not properly seated, but will do.

So all thats left is the antenna wire, for which i have some new fishing line on route as the stuff i have is either to big or to small. And i need a nameplate for the base but need to get some new card for that from town.

This build has left me a bit deflated. More than any kit for a long time i wanted this to be perfect. Any other aircraft i might well be happy with it, but this subject in this scale, i had hoped for better. Between the fit fit issue, flory wash and canopy fit, its just not quite hit the mark i had hoped. If i do decide to get a 32nd 87D, it certainly won't be the Hase kit, i think the Trump kit will be the way to go.

But, enough of my wallowing, i can now focus on the 190 and hopfully won't have any issue with that. I think a nice relaxing 1/72nd aircraft will be in order after this.

Bish, Bish, Bish -

Pure perfection!! from 1/72 to 1/32 sir you make the Stuka look alive and real. Wonderful, wonderful work sir! I have one question....the landing gear bays, did you use a light application of black wash or light grey paint with a pin wash? It looks great.

Hey Bish, this is looking great!  That pit was definitely worth the effort.  It looks fantastic.

I need major magnification to work on 1/48.  Might need a microscope for 1/72. LOL

How do you think i feel. Something taking up this much of my bench should have at least 4 engines and the crew of a small city.

I really like them, i have these belts for all my 32nd kits now.

LOL I just can't get over the size of those on YOUR bench. They look so out of place for you LOL.

I love the look of those HGW belts. When I do another 1/32 someday I'll have to go that route again.

I love Stukas and F-W 190's. I'll be watching.

I finally got the paint work finished on the Stuka. And i am really liking this MRP. One thing of note is that it goes on like Alclad and so it shows up every little scratch. So i am really going to have to improve on my preperation work. I did have one small patch on RLM 71 that came away with the tape on the nose, but thats an easy fix.

So now i just need to get the markings on. I have ditched the masks, i started applying them but got really frustrated with getting them in position and so i am going to stick with good old fashioned decals. So just need to give it a couple of gloss coats.

In the mean time, the 190 has come on. Got the pit finihsed off, includeing HGW seat belts. I removed the back piece as i decided to fit the pit after the fuselage halves were together and this was easier without it. Also missing is the throttle which kept coming off so i'll ad that after the pit is fitted.

And with the fuselage together and pit in, the lower wings and tail were added. The wings took some work to get in place but fit nicely. The join between the tail and fuselage did need some filler.

The upper wings have been left off until the wing guns have been fitted. I had hoped i could do this later, but they won't go in with the uper wings fitted without some contortions and i didn't want to risk breaking them.

Thats all for now, more to follow soon(ish)

Bish,

FANTASTIC work on the Stuka's!!! The hand painted white wash is awesome. How long did it take you to do that? It looks amazing. Also, great start on the 190 pit. One day I hope you do a flying Stuka dio. I know it would look outstanding.

Bish, I am so impressed with the scope of this build. I can't imagine the patience it takes to accomplish a build on this scale.

As an aside: My regular doctor, who is also my flight surgeon, told me a while back that Stuka pilots and gunners had their eardrums pierced with a metal tube to keep the pressure balanced in their heads and to prevent pain due the the long, steep dives required to bomb a target. I don't really know how true this is but in theory it sounds plausible.

I'll be checking back to see your progress...

Thanks frank. After 20 years of waiting to build it, the time its taking to get it done is  minor. Once the 190 is done i'll be taking another break, but hope to have it all completed by March or April.

But it is designe for the Hase kit. .

LOL, so was the CMK one "Designed  for the Revell 1/32 He-162".........in their dreams ! :crying:

Glad yours worked out. It's the norm with resin updates to do some fitting but man, the CMK fit was just atrocious. At least it has some very fine details over the kit's pit.

I've never used one of there pits. There engines are nice but then of course they don't fit inside anything. I have a couple of their 72nd pits, will have to see how they work out.
