Here is a photo of a 229 I took in Vancouver BC in 2005. Very interesting. My build is driving me nuts, its either my lack of skill or the Dragon kit. Nothing seems to fit, I have had to cut the engine into bits to make them fit, well just the faces. I am just waitng for some glue to dry, then get stuck back into it. Had my swim this morning

I remember that one! I've looked at the "1949 Schnieder Trophy" article in FSM many times -- some superb modeling there!

DISASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went to attach the wings to the body, and it all fell apart!!!!!!!!!!! I tried to super glue things back together, but it only got worse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am not sure what to do now, am soaking the parts in nail polish remover to try and get rid of the glue. I have some ideas, but I need to step away for a bit before I try again. Sorry about this guys

Looks like Squadron's warehouse has taken a beating! The reference magazine is sold out as is the 1/72 scale Revell / Germany kit....No sign of the Dragon 1/48 scale kit? I thought they were going to re-issue it for this GB?

I ordered the PM Models of Turkey 1/72 scale kit for ... 3.99$ (50% off) Its going to be a template for a idea of mine regarding a wooden model. Hopefully a few plastic parts and the wind screen can be saved for vacuum forming.

Don't sign me up until the order arrives, like the saying 'the cheque is in the mail'

Well I was thinking more 'whittling' mode.

I have access to a woodworking shop and figured a hybrid Horton would be a fun project. Besides from what I hear the kit parts will not be much use.

The kit was a " Great Leap Forward " compared to the vacuform that preceded it.

The two main " wing " halves are useful but the kit lacks any sort of cockpit interior, engine  or gear bay detail .The nose gear strut and wheel are one piece.

Detail is composed of very lightly done raised lines.

This is the compact, lightweight version wearing a Northern Hemisphere "ghost" camo pattern. In the absence of aircraft carriers or suitable land bases, these were to be unfolded and deployed from u-boats. The specialised pattern is very hard to see if you are suffering from snow-blindness...

(But seriously, I'm up to my eyeballs in that P-38, takes up a lot of room on my non-existent work table. It's coming, just not quickly!)
