That is a cool machine - any idea what goes in the pod on the rear underside?

The .555 - if I ever spot one I'll have to pick it up. They're not all that expensive from what I've seen - just haven't seen on erecently.

1/48 Horten wing! Right, I was thinking it was 1/72 for some reason. Still, big wingspan.

Manstein's revenge

Veeeerrrryyyy coooool...the cockpit tubing is almost identical to the powered version...man, are those wings loooong!!! Looks like a boomerang!

Vance, you seeing this!!!?Surprise

Yes I am! Indifferent What is the wingspan on that beast?? Looks as big as the He177 that I'm starting up on....

A different wing, but.... I'm still thinking about breaking into my brother-in-law's place and "retrieving" a model kit I gave him ages ago, that he has never done anything with:

Sweet P38 its gonna look great when finished !!! What is the wing span on that lit anyways it does look long.

Ok Field Marshal Manstein here is my 1/48 Dragon Ho

Started with the engines and center section

http://i712.photobucket.com/albums/ww122/randysmodels/Horton%20229/02Horton229.jpg

http://i712.photobucket.com/albums/ww122/randysmodels/Horton%20229/03Horton229.jpg

Lots of detail in this kit but it did have fit issues as was expected. But I didnt expect to find cracks in the wing roots in a very bad place. They are circled in red. I glued some .010 plasticard on the inside of the wings to fix the cracks.

http://i712.photobucket.com/albums/ww122/randysmodels/Horton%20229/05Horton229.jpg

Next up gluing the wings on the center section but first a test fit was in order, I read the reviews of this kit Stick out tongue

http://i712.photobucket.com/albums/ww122/randysmodels/Horton%20229/07Horton229.jpg

Now when I went to glue the wings on the instructions called for some pins to be used when assembling the wing to the center section, low and behold when I tried to use the pins I had an alignment nightmare on my hands with huge gaps and the wing didnt sit anywhere near square to the center. What a diabolical thing to do to us builders. So time to can the pins, you I tossed them in the trash bin. And heres what I ended up with.

No dihedral problems or much of a gap at all. BUT the nose is gonna take some work.

http://i712.photobucket.com/albums/ww122/randysmodels/Horton%20229/15Horton229.jpg

Got the nose glued on and this is where it was a couple of days ago.

Nicely done so far...looks like you've discovered and addressed the typical issues for the HO...the blue harnesses do have me a bit perplexed, however...

Vette....

Nice looking Ho.....I see you had the same pitfalls we all did with the Dragon kit....those two conex points at the cockpit to the nose....be careful....very weak ....I can assure you they will break loose a few times before you are done.....if you still can, I suggest some strips to reinforce from below....great job on those wing seams....also....test fit the engines so they sit right against the intake openings and at the back at the same time ....it requieres a bit of manuvering and if you plan to close the engine covers you will need to test fit too....I left mine open one because it was a pain to close them and two so you could see the nice engine detail.....Any camo ideas????

Well.. here we go..

I added some pins to the wing mounting areas as this was just a butt join. I replaced some of the resin cockpit bracing with wire..

Its been painted with a mix of Testors acrylic and Tamiya paints mixed to acheive the colors I wanted.. Photobucket:550:0

[Photobucket:550:0]]the pilot lays prone in the aircraft..Photobucket:550:0]

the nose gear I changed the main strut to some brass tubing..

Angry Yeah, who was that slacker that started scratchbuilding a Horten   and then......  oh, wait..... Embarrassed Bang Head

I have a feeling I'd better get that back out & actually finish it, before you send another agent to my place.
