Hi there, This will be my first group build ever. New year resolution is to get back into the hobby!  I haven't built a kit for quite some time, I have a 1/32 scale 190 in the stash.  I haven't touched the stash for over ten years.

Ryan.

Welcome back to the hobby. Be warned, GB's are addictive. I have built for nothing else in the past four years and i tend to get myself in the deep end by commiting to to many.

But they are great fun and a great way to share and learn.

Which 190 kit do you have.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Nice start guys! I got some cockpit painting done and most of the engine insert done on my D-9. Will try to get some pics posted later this evening. Still trying to get this Spitfire off the bench too, lol.

Didn't get much done on my F-8 last night. It's been cold, and I was pretty drained dealing with the family, which has been knocked down by the flu. That and I was in compulsive mood restoring lost rivets on the giant P-47.

Still, I did a quick test fit to reassure myself that yes, this is a Tamiya kit.

And it's kinda dwarfed next to the Trumpy Jug...

Should be sweet rollin Matt. The bulges on that MG cover stand out alittle on the Tamiya kit. I have an Eagle parts gun cover that I tried to fit on my Hasegawa kit and it just doesn't fit. The part is a beauty though.

I managed to wash the sprues and resin bits for my PCM and Hasegawa A's on new years eve.             I discovered that I have a metric butt-ton of PE and decals for FW190's.... I might need to expand the stash just to use this stuff up.

While waiting for the flat coat on the pits to dry I worked on both wings. The A-8s wings fit a little better than the older A-4, but the -8 has some retarded inserts for gun fairings on the leading edges. These parts are real small and fit bad.

I got them lightly sanded and used some surfacer and they're looking much better.

I was able to find some time tonight to start my A-8.

I acutally got some parts cleaned up and glued together.Smile

This is my first Eduard kit and I'm looking forward to the build.

Got the cockpits done! Flat coat dried and them came some chipping with a silver pencil and some burnt umber chips applied with a small brush. After that I took some Pastels and ground em up, brushed them on then doused them with mineral spirits.

All dried and finished:

Holy crap! That looks great Nathan! I'm still working on my cockpit and am about halfway through. I'm quite certain I'm going to use most of the year to get this one done even though this thing is practically putting itself together as compared to my last build!

Thanks Buckeye and Joe. My build pace will for sure slow down now as I assemble the multi-piece cowlings (thanks HasegawaBang Head) and fit the wings to the fuselage. 190 pits build up fast anyway due to simple side walls and instrument panels.

The construction will only OOB with the addition of safety belts of Eduard.

Since I have several German models and almost all color scheme with RLM 74, 75 and 76, I opted for this scheme.

And for the first time, will simulate the rivets. For now only those who will not be affected when sanding brands of glue.

When I have the fuselage and wings glued complete what is missing.

Joe - Judging from your starting efforts it appears we are in for an exceptional build from you.

Nathan - Very nicely done office indeed.

ajcmac - Love the Trop scheme. I'm still considering one for my 190. Like the rivet work. Sure glad to see you have the patience for that task.

Rigidrider - That there is some excellent work on your engine. Your detailing is really well done.

Here be some prelim pics before I get to cutting sprue. Not much there for a 1/72 job but still fairly weel detailed OOB. The little extras oughta dess her up nicely though.

Here be a sampling of the reference material I have at my disposal:

And again a revisit to my decal options. I am leaning to do #2 down but, I am hugely tempted by one of the Trop schemes.

got some work done on both engines. Nothing fancy here, just glue/paint/wash...as you can't see jack anyway inside the 190 cowl!

I also carved out the crappy moulded on guns on the kit cowl,

In favor of these beauties:

Hey Doogs. I know what you mean about your 190 being dwarfed by the P-47 in 1/32 scale. After building that 1/24 scale Bf109 this Fw 190 in 1/48 scale is a tough challenge. I spend alot of time with the magnifying visor on(against my better judgement!). I used to build nothing but 48th scale offerings before my eyes started going kaput after I turned 40. All of the kits I have except for that 109 are in 48th scale because I bought almost all of them pre-eyes going to crap age!

Hi All,

Looks like things are coming along great! I just made a post about how to improve the Tamiya ETC 501 rack for my long buried Tamiya Fw 190 A8/R2 project. If you have any interest in seeing what I did, take a look here. As mentioned, I’m not super happy with the result, and may take another crack at it. After all, the only cost is time and effort…

It looks like there are a lot of Tamiya & Eduard kits being built; I can’t remember if anyone is doing both at the same time, but if you are here’s a neat tip. I’m not the first to notice this, one of the accuracy problems with the Tamiya kit is the canopy, if displayed open is that the front edge is too wide.

The real aircraft starts wide at the engine and tapers continuously to the tail, so that means an open canopy will be narrower then one that is closed - thus the hinged section on the top of the canopy. Here’s the A–5 I saw recently:

Flying Heritage Collection 2012-12-16 at 15-48-17 HDR

If this matters to you, it’s very easy to swap in the canopy from the Eduard kit. The Tamiya kit parts will fit pretty nicely, with only a small bit of filing in the armored head rest. The best part is that Eduard gives you two canopies in their kits; “flat” and “blown” versions. So if you’re doing both at the same time, or have one of the Eduard kits in your stash, you’re golden. Next time I get a chance, I’ll post some pics of the Tamiya & Eduard parts together.

Keep up the good work!

Best regards,

Mike
