MK, your Thunderstreak is added to the photos. I'm looking forward to the F-8E.

MV, your Phantom is added to the photos as well. You are now officially MADE here...

CB, that's quite a collection as well as a quandary.... which one to build???

If you build the Messerschmitt, don't forget to flare the ends of the axles with a heated knife blade or screwdriver tip!  Gotta be true to our roots!

Now that is a true retro technique! GeekedToast

I don't think I've ever seen on of the 1/48 Bf 109E's built up. That might be interesting. I'm gonna start my bubble top Jug if it ever gets here...

I really can't decide. I'm really in the mood for a tomcat... but in 6 months? hmmmm Ok, leaning towards an F-14 and.... A P-47 or P-51...
cbaltrin
Can't decide what to build... AD-6... P-51... F-14... another Jug... so many choices... Oh yea... Well give me a week to sort it out..
cbaltrin

Great, I'll look through my stash and be back. Maybe I'll do a pair of Thunderbolts... or a P-38..... or if I am feeling especially nutty... I'll try to get a F-14 done in 6 months!

I have been looking at the builds. I have to say that HVH would be proud wherever he is. Thanks for all the kind words on the F-84. Now to get the F-8 finished.

And I got the MiG masked for the third color...I'm 90% positive it's going to be more of a hard camo than I wan t it to be, but I do not have the skills, the know-how, and I'm pretty sure I don't have the right nozzle either to free hand tiny enough lines with an airbrush so hopefully it'll end up looking ok still.

Any of you Monogram nuts wanna give me the skinny on the 1/48 Mosquito? I happened upon one for cheap. I know the tail is a scale-foot too tall and the fuselage is too narrow, but is it REALLY that noticible?

It's a good old kit. A bit spartan on it's interior detail, bt it certainly looks like a Mossie when built. I did one about 5 years ago and it turned out pretty darn good. It has parts for you to build the NF, B, and FB variants.

Hi, Stik. I neglected to send you an uncluttered photo of my second build for the first page. Hope this works better:

Aw, nuts, I hate to hear putty/sprue mentioned as fillers...

Why is that?

It's inconvenient.

Ah, OK, understood.  I can see that.  With some of these kits, it's a necessary evil.  I'm building the F-80 kit (not for this group build), and it's got some serious fit issues.  But I suspect that they are related to the relative age of the molds for my particular kit.  It's from the Aughts.  There are some bad gaps where the wing parts meet the fuselage, and there was a serious warp to the right half of the fuselage.  Both problems required careful clamping and some putty work.

You're right, it's a necessary evil, no matter what brand you build. Hasegawa just about put me off of Phantoms with their PhrankenPhantom series in 1/72. I still have a 106 in the closet, and I found the red bull tail markings from the aftermarket that replicates the first 106 I built in the late 80's/early 90's. The weapons bay will be open on this one, though!

Agreed, fixing fit issues is one of my least favorite parts of modeling. No matter how much I try and try my eyes always seem to find the seam (see what I did there?).

I've gotten a lot better...and more patient...but still

And thanks for the compliments, today was cold and rainy again, I might have to pick up one of them buddy heaters at work to heat the garage so I can spray in there cuz this deadline is approaching fast

I agree, I like the rocket pods...I scratched some ordnance for mine, but I'm doing a complete whiffer for this bird

Hey, now those colors darn near match perfectly!  Nice work!  Love the scheme!  Those rocket pods would be perfect, but all that come with the kit are 2 AA missiles and a centerline fuel tank.  The pic itself rocks!  Thanks!

Here's the latest picture I have on my photo bucket...I guess I didn't take any pictures of the paint yet,,,last update was on page 23 I believe....oops. All I have between me and paint time are finals and this darn cold wet weather...good for hunting, but not so much for airbrushing.

I'll try to take some pictures of where it currently stands soon

Eagle, it looks good to me....I built my mig21 starting as a what if, so I'm sure you will be fine

Thank you sir!  It does kinda grow on you after a bit.  Still think I should post a mini-contest for a pic of a real one with the closest to my scheme!  Do you have a pic of your -21?

Eagle, that's an imaginative scheme; I like it!

Thank you!  Imaginative is a nice way to put it.  I knew after the first coat it was going awry, but like I said, medical things going on right now, I'm lucky if I remember my name.  Embarrassed  Bish sent me some pics of wild camo schemes from other countries on the -21.  So I guess I'm not too far off.  I was going to post that if anyone could find a pic of THAT scheme, I'd give them a model!  Wink

Thanks again for the kind words and I just hope the Dom will except it when finished so I can finally get my badge of honor!

My apologies to everyone.  I thought I had been posting pics, but have not!  Too many life things going on right now and I can't remember my name half the time.  Anyway, you see evidence of my insanity with the paint scheme I did.  First, some progress pics.

Now for the insanity.....with the medical issues in the family, my brain is not functioning at 100% and I grossly miss read some paint colors.  I was going for a desert (Afghan) type scheme I had seen somewhere.  Don't think I got close. Embarrassed  So....it turned into a "what if" type scheme.  I know, and I am ashamed.  My apologies to everyone.
