Jules

I think you may be right about the edge being just a bit too sharp in your scale. This is a product I just found just a few days ago that may work for you. I was looking for blu tac, fun tac or anything like it and found this and got thinking, “Now I can do a 219…” We’ll see. My thought was to cut small irregular shapes from thin card stock and use this to “float” them over the surface of the model a little higher than fun tac would for a softer edge. The advantage would be the consistency of height all over the model. These cut easily with sharp scissors into 4’s, if it is too big for the cut-outs, making nice little tiny squares to suspend the card stock. They are low tac so they will come off easy. I have not tested to see if they leave a mark on the paint yet. If you can’t find it where you are let me know and I will mail you a sheet. 108 per sheet into 4’s are 432… that ought to get ‘er done.

I picked these up at a Pearl Art Store. But I bet AC Moore or a Michaels will have it.

I recently purchased How to Paint Realistic Military Figures from FSM. In the book there is a Kirin 200mm German Machine gunner. It is like the Tamiya 1/16 Machine Gunner but with more detail. I would like to do this for the build but I cannot find it anywhere online. If anyone knows where I can get ths Kirin figure please let me know.

Thanks,
Blake

Blake I'm not sure that Kirin are still in busines, however you may want to post this question in the Figures forum for a better answer.
As for places that do have some stock you can try VLS Model Mecca, Jaguar Models, or maybe e(vil)Bay.

I posted a topic in the figures section so hopefully I can find it. Here is a picture of the figure so I can see if it qualifies for this GB.

Hmmm, could someone with a Spitfire fetish (dunno who that might be!!Wink [;)]) give me a heads up as to which colours are used the most.

I just looked at my paint stash last night and realised I don't have 1 single RAFF etc colour in any of themShock [:O]

Blake - I've had some success picking up Kirin figures on Ebay, I actually have a search set up for them ! A 200mm one is likely to cost though and may take a few weeks / months to show up. I'm prety sure Kirin went bang in the late nineties. Pity really, they did do some nice figures. DOing a figure is a good idea for this GB, I'm overdue for one...hmmmm
Cheers
Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Morning all-scheduled a vacation day to 'catch-up' on projects...yard work, F4F Wildcat, oil change, etc. and am fighting a cold/virus type thingie.....at least modeling is an 'indoor' sport Wink [;)]

On a positive note, the Collins Foundation brought in their B-17 & the only flying B-24 to Yeager Airport here in West Virginia. Took a half day vacation, got to watch both planes land and taxi in then toured both. For a mere $400.- tax deductible dollars, I could have taken a 30 minute flight.....maybe next time....anyway, here are couple of pics. Maybe a "Heavy Metal" bomber GB build late next year........hummmm

At this stage of the war, Spifires were almost always in the high altitude camo scheme of Ocean Gray/Dark Green disruptive over Medium Sea Gray.

after i finish my two current projects on the bench, I embark upon my most ambitious project yet. Tamiya 1/72 spitfire with aires cockpit, gunbays and engine, dropped flaps, eduard detail set and an offset rudder. (And to cool me off i'll be doing the tamiya 1/72 p-47d bubbletop OOB for this build.)

So you guys think I can handle it? (Frankly i'm not sure if I can handle it myself, but we'll see...)

Too late? We don't start for another month. I can understand your confusion though as there are already 40 pages of pre build gab? Some it actually has to do with the build... the rest is all about our deepest, darkest fantasies! Mischief [:-,]Clown [:o)]Wink [;)]

Bob I just picked up Hasegawa's new Lancaster kit. A heavy metal GB late next year has my name all over it! sign me upBig Smile [:D] There is an ongoing Heavy Bomber GB though, haven't checked into it for awhile so not sure where its at.

that would be nice getting some figures in here... don't see a lot of them in the GB's except in Dio's with an aircraft or a tank as the centerpiece...

Tom Kremps may be your deepest darkest fantasy, she just brings me out in a cold sweat!

Blake Welcome to the madness.

I've just received the Cutting Edge decals for my He162, I'm going for a machine from 1./JG 1. Had to order them direct from Meteor Productions in the US as they've sold out in the UK. Still worked out cheaper than buying in the UK, even with airmail!

Plane at top:

http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=CED32065

I've also just taken delivery of the Airwaves set for the He162. This is the one with replacement ejector seat and bulkhead, Eduard pre-painted PE belts and wheels.

Link to Hannants including pics of a real seat in the US.

I think that will do for AM stuff on this build, now I just need to work out what to get for the Panther. It's looking like an awful lot!

Yeah that might be the go for reverse masking the 219, i was thinking and have been practicing with pleasing results the card method of applying small spots with a soft edge but i'm always up for new techniques........

Bob Nice looking pics of the Heavies, I've only ever come across the Lancaster G for Goerge which is on permanent display at the Australian War Memorial at Canberra..
Speaking of EX Warplanes i've been on the Hunt for a cheap Mig and i've come across a Mig 23 complete for $50:000 US, apparently it even startsand i'm mental enough to sell the house and buy it but i'm sure there will be a cheaper one without an engine and avionics out there somewhere.........

Karl your Volksjager should look really cool when it's done, i've seen that kit built at my LHS and it's a real lookerThumbs Up [tup]

Darren Thanks for doing that Gif image for me mate i'm gonna stick it in my sig right nowBig Smile [:D]Thumbs Up [tup]

Well, this GB is still a few weeks from starting, but I've pretty much decided on my entries. Put me down for a DML/Dragon 1/48 Me163B-1a "Komet" & a Hasegawa 1/32 FW190A-8 "Ramjagger". If I get those done in a timely manner, I may add a third build, but will wait & see how these go Smile [:)].

Rick I have a question for you- You said you've built a couple of the revell 1/72 fw-190 kits right? How'd you deal with the awful canopy/clear parts? Are there any vacuforms that will fit the revell kit? (not sure because it's moulded funny with the sliding portion moulded integrally with the fuselage halves) Thanks for any help...

Tanky CMK do a detail set for the Revell 190 in 1/72 that includes two different canopies, one blown, the other normal, including the sliding portion.

I used the set a couple of years back, pretty cheap as it includes PE and resin, and works really well with the Revell kit.

Karl, is it this one (put into the search from greatmodels.com)?

CMK Czech Master

1/72 cmk7014 Fw.190A Interior Set
Category: Aircraft Accessories 1/72

I see the resin and PE but I don't see a canopy coming with it? Thanks.

Tanky, the first one I did OOTB & just fiddled with the clear parts until it looked acceptable. The next one, I used a Squadron Vac form canopy, removing the sliding portion from the Revell kit & building up the interior with sheet styrene. I really think the Hasegawa 1/72 kit with an AM interior is much nicer than the Revell offering.

Karl, thanks for the help.

Rick, I have the hasegawa langnasen kit and i hear many parts are similar to their a series kits. I find that the surface detail on the revell kits is much nicer. And besides for 6 bucks you can't beat the revell... Big Smile [:D]

Oh, BTW anyone interested in posting pics of what they did with the kit? Karl? Rick? Anyone? Smile [:)]
