Stan,

You're correct, the seam along the bottom was present from the beginning.  The fuselage aft of the cockpit was constructed of concentric halves, "clam shells".  This was trait carried through the entire production of the 109.

Darren hope things work out there on the home front.

Both those galland E's look real good. Nice clean lines.

I think all 109 had a seam along the spine on both the top and the bottom. I sure all E's and up did. I don't really get too much into the nitty gritty of very early 109's (a thru d) I know a fair bit of them but my knowledge and interest mostly lies mostly with E thru K variaents. I can't remember if was on here or another site but someone mentioned that the hard line camo not being right for that E-3. If fact it is. Up to the F camo types could of had a hard line on the fuselage. After that it is rarely if ever seen outside of special flight mechines.

sfcmac Thanks for the compliment, I strive to make them as real looking as possible. It looks like you got the camo down no problem. It looks great.

Your Dornier is looking SWEEEEET!!!  Great job on the camo, looks perfect to me. Thumbs Up [tup]

SC- That is a sweet '109!  I built that one a couple of years back, hope you don't mind if I post a photo of mine.  Love the red dragon on the side! Big Smile [:D]

Sweet job there Frank. I love the BoB camo. Anybody else have a Galland in the display case?

Soulcrusher, that is one sweet looking bird. I hope to heck mine looks half as good. One question though. I thought that the 'E's had a visible join along the top of the rear fuzz and no line on the bottom? I may be wrong. (Probably am)

...Guy

Actually Guy you probally are correct about the seam. i did not know if there was a seam there or not so I just build it without it. Thanks for the positive input. I appreciate it greatly. I am sure your bird will be top notch when it is done. Mabye we should defray to the experts. Is there suppposed to be a seam on the spine of the E series or should it be smooth. The world waits and wonders?

Darren, hope your wife gets better soon.

Guy, nice progress on the cockpit.

Didn't Galland's machine have a telescopic sight as well?

Aaron, great job on the Dornier.

Progress Update

I've exhumed the Hasa He111 from the cupboard where it has lain for the last 2 years.

Currently sorting out a few seams, as the bulk of the airframe was complete when I left it.

Greg, Guy- Great work

Aaron- Looks like you nailed that splinter scheme on the Dornier pretty well.  I better get going or you're going to over take me!

Frank- Bad enough you're putting us to shame with your current work, now you've got to drag out old stuff too?! Big Smile [:D]  Looks great!

Yawn.... just woke up and was trying to read the updates. Still have a lot of sleep in my eyes,

Guy that is really great. I had an old Tamiya E-3 ( Galland) that had the mouse and the markings. I have been waiting for a rerelease for years but haven't seen it.Question [?] t really is one of the few kits I think I actually want pretty bad.  So you can see my excitement in your choice!Tongue [:P] I had a bad experience when my wisdom teeth were extracted. Involved an Army dentist with his boot on my forehead and a large set of vise grips. Taped Shut [XX] How does that saying go? What doesn't kill us makes us stronger? I hope you are doing better and the worst is over.

SoulCrusher Sign - Ditto [#ditto] except the part about the wisdom teeth. I hope.

The site seems a bit sluggish this AM so I can keep up. Got the main part of the camo painting all done. In the hope that when Darren gets back soon and all is well I changed my green expert to one from down under. I really don't like outsourcing but Yoda had another gig. Still thinking of you and the Missus Darren, I pray things are well and you will both be back soon!Thumbs Up [tup]

Really the experts I am looking at are the past post from Mike. Stan, Guy, Frank,  Karl, Dave, Mikester,  Greg and everyone else in the magic mirror. Paying special attention to the Mikesters and Stan's expert weathering that I want to emulate. No offense Frank but I hope it doesn't take me 3 trys to get past the props........ Bow [bow] What can I say you are a perfectionist and it will show in the end.

Still have some details to scratch such as the directional guidance antenna that are on the bottom and a few small things. Curious ommissions as the are shown on the diagrams of the Aircraft. Well It is my weekend so I'll make a pot of coffee and have at it! Cowboy [C):-)]

Aaron, I remember seeing a picture of one of Gallands planes that had an Ashtraywelded to the front canopy frame. He was a cool guy. Probably a publicity stunt though LOL.

Oh yeah ive sourced the He 111 kit. Its a Hasagawa 111p model so should be ok for the GB

Guy- Galland had a few different paint versions during the BoB, his E-3's and one E-4 didn't have the Mickey Mouse emblem.  The one most people have come to recognize as his aircraft was actually from December of 1940 when the BoB was more or less over.  This is the one with the Schlageter "S", the Mickey Mouse emblem, Kommodore bars and yellow rudder with the red and black Abschussen.

In addition to the ash tray he claimed to have the only 109 equipped with a cigar lighter.

Let's see if I make make this clear:

Whatever that means, but it's genuine.

Guys I'm afraid we've had a bit of a medical crisis at my place with my wife being admitted to hospital a couple of days ago.

All being well I'll get back online by the end of the weekend.

Cheers

That is some great info Dave, thanks for sharing it! Thumbs Up [tup]

I tried painting my spinner again last night, and mucked it up again.  Forst time, I KNEW that the paint was too thin but I went with it anyway.  A fair amount of it creeped under the tape so I stripped and started over.  Last night, it was better but still needs to be redone.  So, tonight I will strip it again and hope the third time is a charm.

So far, the score is:

Spinner=2

Frank=0

Hmmm... you must have gotten the cheaper version.  Better luck on the next one! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Seriously, well done on the office!  Adolf himself would be quite proud (and, a little annoyed that his cigar lighter hasn't been installed yet!) to see it.

Wow that is fantastic work there Guy... , That looks like a pro built after market pit fer sure. I am amazed at the level of detail you  have made with the kit parts. Right up there with Greg's Spit. Makes me pretty humble and want to get practicing so I can aspire to that level of skill.  Wonder where he kept his cigar lighter? and how that was rigged up?

Hey guy she's looking good so far. Adolf Galland flew several different planes during the BoB. Which markings are you doing. The reason for asking is I just finished a Tamiya E-3 done in Adolf markings just as this group build idea came up. Bad timing on my part but I was just wondering the markings you planned to use.

No Sweat Aaron, i get yer gist. As for my builds, there is a small problem. I have no He 111. I have the resin bitz for said plane but no plane. Even the 111 i did have was a H-6 which isnt allowed. So if anyone has a spare H2-H3 etc PM me LOL.

The 109 E is coming along sweetly. For all ive read on the net, i sat watching the sprues for the best part of an hour. And NO!!!! THE KIT DOESNT BUILD ITSELF! GRRRR. I had to do it. Joking aside, my intention for this kit is to build Adolf Gallands plane and build it OOB. Ive added the odd spare PE bit here and there in the pit and if i need anything else ill scratch it. Heres some pics of what ive done so far.

The instruments were done with spare decals as the ones supplied in the kit looked awfull. Far too much white.

As i never seem to work too instructions, the next logical progression was to do the propellor amd then the chrome on the undercarriage legs. Obvious. Right?

Alclad supplied the steel colour on these wonderously detailed prop hubs.

Next i checked the wing to fuzz gap. It was good but not that good so i needed to spread the fuzz slightly. If you need a spreader, what better than a Tamiya spreader LOL.

pretty sweet gap, or lack of it.

More soon.

I used Eduard set for:

throtle, flap, trim controls and minor pieces for the door, lock amd armor plate.

IP is tamiya with white background and black cover scratched to get highlights.
