Oh goodie! I can startStick out tongue. Guess i just post here then.

Hmmm... the revell Go229 in a nutshell...

Pro:

Cheap (10 euro's is a normal price here, translates into roughly 12-13 bucks)

Well molded (some revell is crap, the newer stuff quite good. This is a newer one)

Decals (I NEVER ever had any problem whatsoever with revell decals and this kit is no exception, options for two aircraft)

Ease of construction (This one fits together very well with minimal sanding and filling horror)

Con:

No engines (you get the fron and the end to stick into the holes with nothing inbetween)

Canopy (usual revell clear parts. quite ok but a bit on the thick side in this scale)

That about sums it up i guess. You get alot of bang for buck and it is a breeze to construct. You can get a few pics of the sprues and box somewhere around page 7 or 8 in the Early jets GB thread.Wink

Hope thees vets your appetite mein general!

Richard

Yeah, just post in here---I can change the title later...I've heard that the decals are the weakest part of the kit--I robbed some 72nd 262 decals for mine...the glass is thick but I plan on my canopy being slid open so no big deal there...

I agree that the engines are probably the biggest let-down...there is a good review that shows a guy "blanking-off" the exhaust area from the inside with some card-stock so you won't be looking thri the a/c once everything is buttoned up...I bought a resin Jumo engine and am thinking of modifying mine to show it opened up but am not sure if it is worth the trouble and risk...I'll see if I can find the link---

http://gregers.7.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=7655

...it pays to read a few build reviews---also watch the placement of part 9 in step 3--it says in the same review that this is shown going in upside down...

Thats sounds good to me. I haven't got mine out of the plastic yet, so not had that close a look. The canopy is easy to replace, squadron do one for the 229.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

I would, but those kits are so far outside my budget that they have a different zip code.

In the Hangar: 1/48 Hobby Boss F/A-18D RAAF Hornet,

On the Tarmac:  F4U-1D RNZAF Corsair 1/48 Scale.

 Manstein's revenge:

...but I'm seriously thinking about the home-built option.

Okay, but I expect an effort close to this one:

Wow, it's amazing that an RC model of this thing is so fly-able, the instability would be hard to deal with at a small scale I would think.

ya.. but did you notice he just glides it for a while,, someting about the electric engines needed to cool down..

sweet fyling bird,, reminds of the documentary of the Northrup wings, watching a flying wing fly is a thing of beauty...

The electric speed controller was over heating up is why the engines kept quiting. I read there are only to designs for RC 229's that work although they have trouble with both at high speeds. Seems they have to use a blast tube behind each engine because of turbulance created by the engines over the trailing edge of the wing. Makes me wonder if the Germans had the same trouble with thr real one.

Ye, deffinatly avoid the PM if you can. I managed to get rid of mine on E Bay when i got the Revell one. The PM kit is very very basic. Theres a reason its less than half the price of the revell kit.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

 Manstein's revenge:

 VanceCrozier:

Congrats! Although the shipping is more than the winning bid! Still a decent buy though.

My brain is wandering - dangerous I know! I don't have kit in hand yet... but I have a decent store of spare parts... a flying wing is a fairly simple shape... I'm actually considering scratchbuilding this bugger! Am I crazy?? (You know, crazier than usual!)

Scratchbuilding the 229? Are you kidding me?  Squadron is practically giving these away...

By the way, Dragon called me and they are firing up the molds in Hong Kong since the demand for these buggers has just shot up...

Good! I was searching online shops and the only two available are in 1/72 scale, the Revell one is at Hobby line and Squadron has the one made in Turkey:

PM Models from Turkey
Horton 229 V7 Nightfighter
1/72 (25MM)
$5.99
http://www.squadron.com/images/cartimage.gif

The Revell one is cherry even at 72nd scale---stay away from the PM one at all costs...

Some more rare combat footage:

I know I know, even with shipping the thing's a steal right now. But I've been thinking about scratching something simple - that I'd be interested in - for years now. I'll probably grab that little Revell kit too, but I'm seriously thinking about the home-built option.

Manstein's revenge

 Gamera:

Guys, my Squadron flyer just came yesterday and they have the 1/72nd Revell of Germany kit on sale for $11.81. I'm not a big braille scale builder but it's less trouble than ebay. And plus shipping and handling you're going to end up with a bill of what - 15-16 bucks? I can't hardly get a good meal at a sit down resturant for less than 15 bucks anymore.

Not too useful I'll admit to the non yanks on the forum but still thought I'd point it out.

I received that kit yesterday and I must tell you that I was really impressed with it, especially as it is 72nd scale...lot's of detail I wouldn't have expected...and bigger than I thought it would be...

I also bought a resin Aires Jumo 004 engine with the possibility that I might get brave and cut one of the engine panels open and drop it in...I'll post some pics sometime this weekend...I can recommend this kit...

Sounds good Manny, as its the only 229 available in the Squadron online shop right now. I was not going to order that kit unless it was ok to do so.

Manstein's revenge

You're welcome...wear it with pride and keep up the good work---maybe you'll soon earn the "Rubber Spine Device " to go on your "Hen-pecked Campaign Ribbon"...

Ok, this I will need explanation for as I'm not certain I qualify for such prestigious honors....

Manstein's revenge

 Gamera:

I'll need to go with an extension too, I'll pick up a kit somewhere around the first of the year.

Currently planning on going with the 1/72nd Revell kit.

Will be built as a fictional license built Japanese 229 aka:

Nakajima Ki-229 'Koumori' (Bat)

Allied code name: 'JEFF'

LMAO....

Oh, and one more thing:  Oddman, I hereby bestow upon you the coveted "229 Badge in faux gold with Fig Leafs, Crossed Forks and Rhinestones"...wear it with pride...

Thanks Manny, it came in the mail today.....

I think you will enjoy the build...it goes together quick with minimal fit problems. It is a pretty good size especially that front wheel.Big Smile

Well Kermit piqued my curiosity toward the kit with his glowing review and beautiful finished model. With both of you recomending the kit I'm getting psyched up about it.. I'll be ordering a few Christmas presents for the nephews from the Squadron flyer and a few presents along with the Horten for myself. Hopefully I'll have the order in soon and have my kit by this time next week.

Who knows, if it comes out well I might trawl ebay for the Dragon 1/48th kit or maybe buy another 1/72 Revell kit. I was thinking last night the 229 would look pretty cool in Italian marking with those cool smoke rings they used on the Macchi 202 and 205.
